>Thompson's the most historic track in New England but its future has been questionable for years please go there.
Wasn't it only opened in the 1970s? Surely there are older tracks in the region. It is definitely the most important for the Whelen Tour. I believe we have talked about this before, but I need to visit family and drag them along, I think a few might even have fun. The broadcast Wednesday said it was a sell out crowd and it sure looked like it, so that's good to see.
>Generally anything modified related in the south (e.g. SMART, Bowman Gray) is considered irrelevant.
Ugh, tell me about it. We have more dirt tracks than you can shake a stick at and every time I ask the dirt track fans about any kind of asphalt oval racing, they just aren't interested. I think the closest asphalt short track is Nashville Speedway (the one at the Fairgrounds) or maybe Bristol. Neither of which I can just pop over to on a Saturday night.
I'm glad to see Acez has been including more small time stuff, so hopefully, I can watch more of it and maybe we can even discuss it and develop a community here. I was really stoked to see that other anon asking about it.
Dirt modified are cool too, but they never really resonated with me. It's a weid middle ground between a late model and a sprint car and I prefer both of those to the dirt modifieds. Which isn't to say they can't put on a good race.

That was all I could find at first. It's a kind of weird venue by modern standards since it's owned by the government. Is it owned by the State or West Allic or Milwaukee County or what?

Thompson opened in 1940 (paved, with higher banking than it current does). The only other track still in existence that I know existed prior to Thompson is Stafford, but that was a horse track and I do not believe they raced cars until after WWII. And yeah, we have talked about this before.
I'm pretty sure I'm still the only one here that pays for Flo. It'd be great to feel like I'm not just talking to myself about modified (or other short track) racing like the good old fanschoice days again.
I was never really into dirt stuff in general and their modifieds even less so. There are shockingly 4 dirt ovals in New England, though they're all further north than nearly all the paved ovals.

How much is it, if you don't mind telling?
I am not so sure it would be worth it to me because I'm already pretty overwhelmed by series to watch and while its cool that a lot of smaller series run on weekends, they go way too late. I had to turn off Whelen last Wednesday at the halfway point.

I would appreciate reminders of when those races are running. I might not be able to watch all of them, but I would like to try. I think they are really neat.
I watched some Chile Bowl and Tulsa, but I didn't follow the entire event. Still some good stuff.
Yeah, PPV is pretty lame, especially for such small series/events. They would be better off trying to grow their brand with advertising suppored free streams or subscription networks.

I am casually looking at the cup race right now as an almost total novice and you guys need to help me out here a little bit.
Do teams not matter at all? It seems like the narrative is all about the drivers and sometimes about the badge on the car, but I hardly ever hear anything about team dynamics.
Even when they show a driver info card on screen it doesn't even mention what team they race for.
So what's the deal? Are teams just background noise in the context of NASCAR or is everyone just assuming that the audience knows every team-driver combo by hearth?

Also unrelated note but as a yuropoor I find it absolutely hilarious that a car is sponsored by a recruiting firm specialising in submarine manufacturing. Peak murica

100% this
Team and even OEM dynamics come into the storyline often, mostly at plate tracks (Daytona, Talladega) where Chevys will help Chevys, Fords help Fords, etc. Last year Blaney tandem drafted his Penske teammate Logano to the lead and aero blocked a Toyota from catching him. And at Martinsville, Chevy cars created a blockade behind Byron, preventing him from being passed by other cars in the final laps so he wouldn't get eliminated in the playoffs.

so novices like me that don't know who's who can get fucked basically? I hear the commentators mention teams in passing sometimes but unless I pay very close attention to what they say and take notes, there is no way for me to see which drivers belong to which teams.
I guess it's not that important in this sport, but having literally zero information on screen about this seems a bit weird.

IndyCar is similar, but not quite so bad. Essentially, no, teams don't matter in the current era of NASCAR. They might, MIGHT do some small things to help each other if they are farther down the feild, but if the SVG/Zillich racing has been proof of anything, it is that the teams end at the pit stall.

Each organization has 1-4 cars, the cars are considered teams. The 11 team races for Joe Gibbs racing, the 19 team races for Joe Gibbs. The owner’s championship tracks the result of the team/car as separate entities, there’s nothing like the constructors in formula 1 where the points are the total of the cars. Also theres 3 manufacturers across 36 cars, so it’s not really important, however Chevy guys will draft with Chevy guys at super speedways and stuff.

However, even though the teams are separate despite being in the same organization, they still follow the golden rule of not wrecking your organizational teammate.

It’s not really important as a casual fan to know the teams.

Example:
>joey logano and Ryan blaney and Austin cindric are all racing each other
>if they finish well, it benefits the individual drivers, not necessarily team Penske in the same way the constructors works in formula 1
>they are still told to not wreck each other.

Also guys can get penals for race manipulation if, for example Austin cindric blocks a driver who’s racing Joey Logano for the championship

Sort of. Actually, in the most recent years, manufacturers orders have been more common than team orders (like Austin Dillon holding part of the field back at Martinsville last year so one of the Chevys could pass to the championship finale at Phoenix), and just as

said, on superspeedways or drafting style of racing situations, cars from the same manufacturer will try to help eachother out. Also, just as the second anon that I quoted said, each car is treated as an individual team most of the time, even if they race under the same umbrella. However, it's possible to see sometimes drivers from the same organization helping eachother or even drivers from other organizations but which that one has a technical support from a higher team helping the drivers from it (just like Berry from Wood Bros. helping a Penske driver because Wood Bros. has a technical alliance with Penske).

The 12, 22, and 2 are all team Penske cars and are fords, but they have a technical alliance with the 21 car which is a different organization but the car is prepared from the same shop as team Penske.

The 11, 19, 54, and 20 are all Joe Gibbs cars and Toyota.

The 23, 45 and the 35 car are 23XI (twenty three eleven) and are all Toyota and have an alliance with Joe Gibbs I think.

The 42 and 43 are legacy motor club and are Toyota.

The 6, 60, and 17 cars are roush Fenway keselowski and are ford.

it's a quirk of the history of the sport. originally there were no 'teams' in the F1 sense, every driver owned and built their car themselves. Actual teams like the Kiekhaefer Chryslers of the 50s were very much an exception. Even the big dynasties like Petty Enterprises and Wood Brothers were originally owner-drivers. It wasn't until the 80s where owners who didn't actually race their own machines became the norm, and wasn't until the 00s when multi-car outfits became common. So, even into the 90s, most 'teams' only had one car so a driver and a team were effectively synonymous. For example, Childress' #3 machine was originally Richard Childress' own personal entry. he didn't start hiring a driver to run for him until the 80s, with Dale Sr being the most famous to drive it. and Childress only had that one car until the late 90s when they started to occasionally run the #31 alongside the #3. The proliferation of multi-car teams was spearheaded by the likes of Penske and Hendrick, both of whom were outsiders who jumped over from Indycar and IMSA, respectively.

>Everything the government and companies say is a fucking lie
An essential truth for humanity (for racers, too).

The more nuanced description is governments and corporations - because they're both owned by the same hyperwealthy oligarchy, like cooperating departments of a single larger corporation - *say whatever gets them what the oligarchy wants, regardless of whether those statements are true or false*.

(I say this because there's always some AI pilpul bot that pukes up the trivially legalistic "the bizgov says the sky is blue - therefore everything else you say is wrong.")

p.s. We don't have a problem with the amount of remaining oil, but those of us who don't sacrifice children and worship Mammon *do* have a problem with where the rest of it is. The oil available to us Jed Clampetts is gone. And few of us have the ability to start another Macondo disaster or displace the IsraSaudis from on top of the oil sands.

Materials handlers, warehouse/shipping and receiving, purchasing agents, sales people, design engineers, manufacturing engineers, materials engineers, machine maintenance, facilities maintenance, quality assurance and control, machinists/tool and die makers, accounting, human resources, plus all the managers for these employees... it takes a ton of specialized people to run a manufacturer plant and none of them are getting out of bed for less than $20/hour. Probably they were exactly that, but NASCAR decided that was better to unite all the front splitter into one piece only by 2011, without the turnbuckles, so I don't know if they were useful in that context or not.
Some cars really look better with turnbuckles on the front splitter, I don't think Miata is one of those cases, as far as I looked on internet most of the splitters with them aren't that good looking, but it really depends on the way that you put them.

When I go to the city near the one I live it's pretty easy to find them. The exact place where I live is filled with old Mercedes, some BMWs and some Poojoes. One thing that I've always found curious here is that is quite rare to see 'yotas and Hondas around. There are more Miatas around than any Hondas.

Well, that's the website I've been searching on, but since this is the most popular and it's the one that has guaranteed international shipping, it might be the option for me, but even so, thank you anon. My plan is to get 1 or 2 pieces of RCR/Dale/Dale Jr/Harvick/JRM/the best thing I can look for merch and a Dale diecast. The 1:24s are very expensive, but although there aren't many 1:43s available, there consideraly cheaper than the other ones, and they can fit on my own collection, so it won't take much of space that I have available.

The 24 unloaded faster than nearly everyone in the field. The difference between good and bad cars was massive. Not the case anymore, all these cars are within tenths over a 74 second lap. The minimal movement from the rest of the field makes what he is doing even more impressive. The only other car that could pass ppl on equal strats was Bell.

This is always bullshit, NASCAR was at its most competitive when there was enough sponsorship to have 50 cars try to qualify for a race, not when there's 40 starting spots and only 35 even bother to show up because they have a contract. In the race in question the pole was a 1:10.652, the slowest qualifying time was a 1:13.285, and a 1:12.576 missed the field with the 36th place qualifier at 1:12.486, a 1.834s difference. This year the pole was 1:14.594 and Cody Ware in 36th was on 1:17.478. Heck ignore him and Gilliland did a competitive with the cars immediately in front of him 35th place time of 1:16.732, still 2.138 seconds off pole (a gap 41 cars were within in 2000). I looked at this years ago during the absolute dogshit tapered spacer gen 6 racing when people would say total lies like "but it's more competitive so it's harder to pass" and the difference was even worse.

Obviously things get tighter towards the top but the gaps within the top 10 or 20 are still within the same range as they were when you weren't even conceived yet.

I agree Gordon took HMS to another level as obviously proven by the wins and championships, but that description discredits how good they already were before he arrived. 31 team wins from 1984-1992, Bodine, Waltrip and Richmond won many races and were dangerous championship contenders.

Kenny Rogers and Rick Hendrick were going to buy out Petty Enterprises in late 1987 and have Bodine/Waltrip/Richard/Kyle as a lineup of 4.
Rogers backed out and Hendrick hired Schrader instead. Rogers quit sponsoring Hendrick cars afterwards, too, so it might've been a personal disagreement.

hyundai is actively lobbying to have hybrid earlier than 2029 in rally1 and so far it seems they try to act like this is what their participation depends on.
So their entry is either just a bargaining chip in this political game or they might pull out for 2 years, run a private team with a grandfathered rally1 for 2 seasons and reenter as a factory entry from 2029.
We've seen things like that, but only citroen was successfull with it
