The NFL commissioner recently comments about not seeing the NBA as a rival got me thinking. Why is the NFL way more popular than the NBA? For example I think LeBron is more famous than any active NFL players right now and yet the NFL brings in way more viewership than the NBA.

NBA teams have way less players, which means they have a bigger budget to market a specific player. That being said NBA is unwatchable these days. NFL is better to actually watch.

>Why is the NFL way more popular than the NBA?
It has been for years, maybe since the leagues were created.
>For example I think LeBron is more famous than any active NFL players right now and yet the NFL brings in way more viewership than the NBA.
Individual NBA players can always be more famous because the nature of basketball makes it possible for one star player to take over a game, whereas in football you inherently need a lot of good players to work effectively.

NBA has more presence online because it's popular globally whereas the NFL still only had domestic popularity.

From an outside perspective, the two leagues seem nothing alike
NBA is a soap opera with 100 games a season, NFL is prime time television where every game is an event and has a big impact

This is correct, plus you can go from worst to first quickly in the NFL season to season with good drafting.

NBA fans don't actually watch the games they just watch highlights on TikTok and gossip about the players personal life.

NBA made basketball boring. Also the games are too long and there's too many games.

I'll watch college basketball but not NBA.

The NFL has actual parity in both the way teams elevate themselves and how the media views them
The NBA media thinks that only teams in Texas (used to be Miami), the Northeast, and California are deserving of success and try to tear down any other team and to send their stars to said chosen teams
The NFL on the other hand celebrates teams from smaller markets or who rise from irrelevancy

The NBA is boring
Scoring doesn't feel like anything cause it happens every second
The games don't feel important cause there are 82 of them
The game is just memechucking now too

>Why is the NFL way more popular than the NBA?
What makes sports entertainment exciting:
>the battle between defense and offense
>frequency of scoring
The NBA has nerfed defenses, causing the offense to be overpowered, therefore scoring happens too frequently, and with little resistance. At that point, you might as well start the game with two minutes left.
The NFL is making the same mistakes. Nerfing defenses, causing the offense to be overpowered, scoring happening too frequently, and with little resistance.
In the NBA it's far worse. Imagine the NFL was three downs of QB's bombing it, and if they all go incomplete, they simply punt. That's what the NBA has turned into. There's no real roles anymore, there's no personality anymore, it's all homogeneous, and boring. I'll still watch the NFL, but it's getting bad. Between dropped balls, horrendous throws, mis-tackles, doinks, muffs, penalties and commercials every 5 minutes, I'm getting to the point now, where I'd rather not waste three hours on a game, and just catch the extended highlights on YouTube.
