yeah, the top academic high schools in japan are public. it’s the same at the university level too, the most prestigious one, the university of tokyo, is public. every high school in japan has an entrance exam you need to pass to get in, even the public ones. some private schools exist mainly for students who aren’t as academically gifted and can’t make it into the public system.
the issue i imagine saga kita faces is that the board of education puts limits on how and where they can spend their funding. stuff like transporting students to koshien, housing them, feeding them, etc. it all adds up.

I dont think theres much explaining to do regarding how they work because the names should be more than enough, the reason we have 3 different kind of private schools is because the number of public schools highly decreases once you get into middle school ( 7th grade ), we have a shit ton of public schools for elementary school but once you finish that part of your education thats when the real struggle begin, like for example a small city can have up to lets say 10 public middle schools and just 3 public highschools, thats not enough even for a ''small'' city, thats why you are end up with a lot of private schools for people with different budgets

No, they've been to Summer Koshien a few years ago. 2022 was the last time they've qualified i think. One and done that year. They were famously walked-off by Kumamoto Kogyo in extras back in 2019 I believe.

They should've been in this tournament the last couple years but were upset in the prefectural semifinals by the other two big schools in Yamanashi Prefecure, Tokaidai Kofu and Nihon Kokuu respectively.

both are good schools with kanto being rated slightly higher by the media. they both have had very easy schedules so far and they both received a first round bye. nichidai san have been more successful historically, having won koshien 3 times, most recently in summer 2011. kanto have never won koshien but, did make the finals last year where they lost to kyoto.
