've always wondered how American consumers tolerate this. 162 games to qualify for the actual tournament. Or 82 or whatever in basketball and ice hockey. It's just long filler arcs. And in most cases, half of the teams in the league qualify for the playoffs anyway, it's not even an elite filter where qualifying is a big achievement. I don't get why anyone would watch this in the long run, and that's before we get to how fair this schedule is in a sportive way. Can it truly be fair if not everyone plays the same opponents an equal amount of times?
Generally, more games = more money and that's almost all the suits care about. Got it. But with a regular season of this length and the lack of filter ... it seems pointless
Football also has become prone to adding more games to make more money. Expanding the World Cup, the Euros, the CL, and so on. But that's partially a (very dumb and despicable) necessity, since wages are out of control and clubs can't household for shit, so they need more income all the time. Doesn't change that it's shit
