2016 was alright. In all honesty, not winning the Euros was a travesty. They threw the semifinal against France away and then had to watch as France choked hard against Portugal. This could have gone very differently
2017 showed everything was more or less in order. Germany won the Confed Cup with a team of second string players and teenagers
2018 was when things started falling apart. Jogi was a massive retard to assemble the team like this, he basically selected a 2014 nostalgia team plus players known to be divas, and then he put in minimal effort and watched the team splinter into small cliques
The sad truth is that our youth development has become out of touch, and the new generation of players is also weakmind as fuck. So we can't go back to the good old days of shithousing our way to finals with inferior player material

because you can't be good forever, if you'd stop to look at the world cup winning dates for a second you'll see that most teams have decent strethes of time between world cup titles, 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014. Sure, there's a few euros inbetween but, 2014 wasn't that long ago and Germany have already bounced back a little in this euros so we'll see how it plays out. The real question is, how have we been shit for all these years

True, but 2018-2020/21-2022 is a chain of humiliations we have never endured before. In between 1954 and 1974, Germany reached the semifinal in 58, the final in 66, the semifinal in 70. Between 1974 and 1990, they reached the final in 82 and 86. The results not mentioned are quarterfinals. 1994 and 1998 weren't only quarterfinal exits, but and 2002, 2006, 2010 were either finals and semifinals.
We've never had anything like this current streak before. The 1992 and 1996 Euros were one win and one final. So being shit for three tournaments in a row and then "only" reaching the quarterfinals is a big deal in German football history and absolutely unprecedented

Quarterfinals is the bare minimum, and it doesn't matter that Cucurella got away with a handball. It's honestly shameful that our media and the DFB pretended the tournament was a success. If you drop out before the quarterfinals, you should be killed with hammers. If you lose in the semifinal or the final, you did okay. You did great if you win. Lose the quarterfinal and you're in no man's land
