Why do people support trophyless mid clubs?
West Ham, Valencia, Bournemouth, you name it, Europe is full of them.

I mean, what is the fun of being a Getafe fan knowing that your club has no chance of winning shit and that the season will be won by Barcelona/Real Madrid for the 100th time in a row?

There are no high and lows, only mediocrity.

This again bro?

Because Europeans cucked themselves with industrialization. They got uprooted from rural areas and got alienated in cities. Football clubs became proxies for grand purpose and community. This is why until today Europeans have this expectation of familial loyalty to football clubs even extending to the modern age when the clubs have lost semblance as community teams. They get surprised that most people in the world change clubs on a whim, pick only winning clubs, etc not aware that the rest of us have other outlets for socialization. Take me for instance, I am still tied to my rural home and can even in theory get an arranged marriage with an 18 year old rural girl once done flipping city girls. So, the German Bayern cucks are kinda right that the Europeans actually don't care about winning titles. As long as 25,000 of them show up at NPC Filler Team Arena on Saturday they're good for it. It's important to note that we can't understand them either. We don't use football as they do, at best we use national teams for national mobilization but that's it.

I need to note that the situation is slightly different in continental European farmers leagues. See, England has a real club football culture coz it's the home of club football. Only Brazil, Argentina and Algeria come close to this. I guess you could argue Mexico as well but I'm not too sure. There's an organic spread of affiliation and immense pride in the teams representing the particular geography, ethnicity or religion.

Continental European farmers leagues merely have 1 to 3 national clubs that EVERYONE supports with local club as sideshow simply because you need several teams to make up a year long league season. So in places like Spain, Germany they all support Bayern and Real Madrid so don't really mind the twice a season defeats when their hometown club loses to Real Madrid and Barcelona coz it's a win for them. There's no cognitive dissonance. Pain would only be in England but because the club represents more than results they live through it. It's the same way you don't really hate your siblings coz they're not the most beautiful or the smartest or whatever.

Yeah, Algeria football system was originally regional like England (and Brazil) before coalescing into national league so have much of that still left.

Continental European farmers leagues are like Tanzania or Egypt league where EVERYONE supports 2 clubs and may or may not support the hometown club currently in the top flight. Germany is an extreme cucked situation where only 1 club is historically relevant. Even the Egyptian farmers league with like 5 clubs with fans has Zamalek larping as Ahly rivals.

Valencia, Bournemouth and West Ham are regional clubs full of villagers. About 3/4s of Mestalla don't live in Valencia proper but are from all over the Communitat. Bournemouth get support from their mostly rural county because they're literally the only club for miles. West Ham is basically Essex FC (with Tottenham spilling into this kind of catchement area).

Getafe are a suburban club and they're a meme for having virtually ZERO fans hence their ads about Getafe tinder and creating homemade porn to get coomers to go there

Also Valencia the region and their fans hate both Barcelona and Real Madrid. It's probably one of the few regions where it's pretty common to view both as enemies and not one more likeable than the other. Getafe also play extremely anti football. Yes we love a crunching tackle once in a while but when does it get to the point where it ruins the entertainment of the game? Least shots on target, most yellows, least amount of goals scored. Fans actually pay to see this shit

Bournemouth are a step up than these shitheads. Their recruitment is absolutely pitch perfect. Plus the only team in Dorset desu.

Valencia and West Ham are piss poor desu. Reliving the glory days. Both teams have/will have new stadiums soon and they're gonna lose their identity. Thats whats wrong with West Ham and Valencia's owners is prioritizing finances on the new stadium after 16 YEARS of hiatus than players

People from these cities support their local club, yes winning the league is unobtainable for them, but they definitely have a shot at the national cup.
If you'd actually visit Valencia you could see how popular the club is locally, tons of people wearing shirts, watching games in bars, watching games live.
For them it's more an activity to do in the weekend, sometimes even a source of local pride/identity.

VCF is well supported in the city but honestly both Valencia clubs are region-wide in terms of fanbase. And VCF obviously have a much larger one. It's not true that they're a purely urban club. And Valencia like most hype cities is now full of people who either don't care about football or support Barça/Real because they're south American or they're a Cani that takes el Chironguito seriously. If anything the more rural you go the more likely people support a Valencian club (can be Hercules or CD Castellon too, Villarreal have glory hunters and Roigbots). People attend football matches not solely for the game itself, but for the overall experience: meeting up with friends, sharing drinks, chanting, and enjoying the atmosphere. For many fans, the match is almost secondary to the social outing. The exception, perhaps, are English fans, who have a reputation for leaving the stadium as soon as their team falls behind by two goals.
Trophy hunting is mostly an online phenomenon common between 4ners or to stat-obsessed customers.

This is what I said though. The roots of that is industrialization. There was no football fandom in the modern sense prior to this. If you look at most countries outside of Europe, the phenomenon is more subdued. People only support the 1-3 national winning clubs that win all the time and stop there. Glory hunting started with overseas broadcast. If you're in Morocco and French Ligue 1 is being broadcasted weekly, there's no basis to support Caen. You will be more drawn to the winning team because at that point you're merely watching football based on what is high quality and what is not. Beyond this there will be a feedback loop where the winning clubs gets more revenue to acquire better players, coaches and admins and retain their position. This process started in Europe. It's no surprise that the league that has been most sheltered from this is English because they have a more robust club culture. Valencia, that the Belgian flag here shills did nothing when La Liga centered itself around 2 clubs. In England, the clubs banded and ditched the FA.

He genuinely doesn’t know anything about Germany, but he’s unwilling to acknowledge that. Alemannia Aachen had an average attendance of 27,000 in the fourth tier playing against villages and reserve teams. Hamburg spent seven miserable years in the 2nd tier and still received enormous fan support, easily selling each home seat in the stadium every time. No league has fan attendance across the board like the German leagues, every city with a somewhat relevant club is filled to the brim with fans of said club. Having 100,000 organized fans is nothing special in German pro, and that’s without the normal sympathizers. He pretends all Englishmen support their local lads while everyone in Germany supports Bayern - it couldn’t be further from the truth. As if there aren’t bandwagoners in England

Nah, America and Chivas are bigger than most other clubs even in their own city. For example teams like Puebla, Queretaro, San Luis and others struggle with attendance but as soon as Chivas or America comes to town the stadiums get full with shirts of those two clubs. Mexico used to atleast have some parity when it comes to title winners but these past years the TV conpany that owns America and also has TV rights to most of the league has been rigging for America wins since that's what generates the most revenue through TV ratings, trying to turn the league Bundes tier just to squeeze out a few more pennies.
