>get second place after being humiliated by Bayern
>your star coach joins Real
>hire Erik Ten Hag in his stead
>your most important players and most of your starting eleven have fucked off already with more to come
>only sign shitters and unproven pace babies as their replacement
name bigger downfall of a club in recent decades

The good thing about being a football club from Germany is that no matter how much you fuck up you'll be never be as kwabbed as Dirtmumd

They're just doing a transition season and cashing in on their assets while they are still worth their peak. IMO it's a smart move by the board to just write a season off and have a huge warchest as opposed to doing what BVB did which was hold on to washed or overrated players who over performed and eventually not get much value out of them to be able to compete financially with Buyern

in principal, you are right. however their "rebuilding" process already looks like a failure
they haven't signed a single player that looks like he can replace any of the starters that have left
not to mention severely downgrading with their new coach

Why is there so much disdain for leverkusen? Is it all just buyern bandwagoners who are mad leverkusen took one of buyern's annual dinnerplates 2 years ago?

they are the original Leipzig-Hoffenheim.
Leverkusen is not a real city.

The season has barely started, you fool. They are cashing in and have some interesting new players. I would like them to fall hard, but you better wait until at least the 10th matchday to pretend they are already done

Far from it, this is way way older than this one season rivalry they had with Bayern
Leverkusen is a 50+1 exception. They are like Wolfsburg, Leipzig, and to a degree Hoffenheim. That’s what people hate them for, they are not seen as genuine clubs because they always depended on a single company. Bayer Leverkusen is a bit more complicated since they were founded in 1904, starting out as a recreation activity team for Bayer factory workers. The company only realized they could make money with the club in the mid-70s. That’s when they started to pump money into the club, that’s when the club started to become relevant, and that’s when the other and more established clubs and fans began to hate them
Leverkusen itself is an industrial area only, it is basically owned by Bayer. It’s right between Cologne and Düsseldorf, both of which have relevant clubs. Leverkusen still has few fans, especially outside of Leverkusen itself. Many people view them as a nuisance, as a club that doesn’t contribute anything to the Bundesliga and only blocks more popular and traditional clubs like Köln from success in the region. All because of one company helping and owning them

Yeah alright but they have 1(one) league title.
It's not like city or psg who spent trillions and as a result now have a dozen. Plus the entire team seems to have been dismantled over the summer, I don't get the threat/seethe ratio.

>Leverkusen is a small and very unspectacular city basically only serving as an industrial site for a single company, Bayer
>located in a region filled with large cities, many of which have pretty popular football clubs: Köln, Düsseldorf, Gladbach, Duisburg, Essen, Wuppertal, Oberhausen, Aachen, Schalke, Dortmund, even Bonn
>the club itself is owned by Bayer and has zero history without them, only appearing in the top tier decades after the traditional powerhouses
>as property of Bayer, they are in the same tier as Leipzig, Wolfsburg, and Hoffenheim: clubs that don’t adhere to 50+1, the rule that says clubs must be fan-owned. That rule is very popular with fans across the country, and being an exception to it makes everyone hate you since you have a financial advantage
>little overall fan culture, as opposed to the regional rivals they have eclipsed thanks to Bayer money
There’s just nothing to them. People liked that somebody finally stopped Bayern, but that team being Leverkusen hurt a bit. They are plastic and culturally insignificant. The squad was good, and Leverkusen does have more history than RB Leipzig and so on. But you can’t expect anyone not from Leverkusen to like that club, they are corpodogs

They simply have become very smug now. Many other fans hope they will finally shut up after a decline. But thanks to Bayer, we will never get rid of them. I don’t even see that many people here talk about them, and irl reactions are more about rolling your eyes and wishing they lose instead of actually talking about them. That is another difference compared to actual big clubs that don’t have a sugar daddy owner. People talk about Köln being newly promoted way more than about Leverkusen

Anonymous Germany No.150421247

I didn’t want to spell out everything, but 51% means that the fans hold overall control after all. And there are special cases like Dortmund who separate entities and hold 100% in one to sell more than 50% in the other. So I just said fan-owned, I obviously didn’t mean 100%

Clueless icenigger, keep seething. Köln is still much larger than Leverkusen. And 50+1 is only flawed because of exceptions like Leverkusen. Without Bayer, the club wouldn’t be shit - they receive dozens of millions that the club didn’t work for. It’s moved from one Bayer asset to another for commercial reasons
If we opened everything up, all the suits would flock to Bayern anyway. But keep cheering for multi-ownership networks

Wolfsburg looks like an incredibly nice place to live and work, the aquatic centre with bar right next to the water to the water caught my eye, as did the artificial lake and beach
