one of the fun parts of chess is you can play the same person a dozen different times and they could all be completely different games. of course some people will always try to stick to a script but you can break their script too if you remember what fucked you over in the last game. and if you know what they're going to do in various scenarios you're going to be able to think about how to counter it in some way which changes the game down the line. so it's still fun to play the same people multiple times.

it's like in sports, the same teams can play each other multiple times no game is exactly the same. you might see the same weaknesses exploited over and over again or similar themes but it's still pretty unpredictable exactly whats going to happen. will the guy drop this ball in this scenario that can get them down the field, or will that pass not be quite as fast as it should be and a defender gets to it. chess is similar. people can try to stick to the same script they played last time but eventually the opponent and make them make a mistake.
