I love my scanner, I sprung for a high Uniden SDS100 because I really liked the desktop version that I already had. For me its difficult because I tend to just turn it to Conor's freq and leave it there. I do wish that Indycar would provide the tone in on the spotter guide for primary and back up freqs. How does that work. I can program my radio with channels and scan them, but it only stops when they are transmitting. I can monitor two chanels at once, but since the TV channel is always open, it basically preempts everything else. Ultimately, it's 100% worth it to have the broadcast team the entire time, but I don't get team messages no matter who I set the second channel to.
>Its hard to spectate a race without one, epsecially on a road course.
I went years and years without one and it was the best investment I ever made for spectating. I can now listen to IndyCar, NASCAR and IMSA (if they have a track radio) and it amazing. It's also great for newfrens so they don't get confused and bored.

>indyshart has not produced slurpers on road courses
Yeah, sometimes some races just don't come off well. Skip Barber last year was a snooze fest and it's usually pretty good. The 2023 Cup race at the Glen is another example. 2022 was kino and 2024 and 2025 were both good. Even the Nashville street circuit was getting better every year as the teams and organizers gathered data and figured out how to make it work. The only issue I see for Zandvoort is that there is no data for the tiers or teams, so the first race might be a bit bland, but if they sign a multi year contract it will definitely be kino.

>Located north of Toronto, the 12-turn, 2.19-mile Ontario Honda Dealers Indy street course in Markham Centre isn’t a temporary solution while the World Cup takes over Exhibition Place; Markham is the new destination for IndyCar’s visit to Canada, which comes as part of a multi-year deal done between the parties and is set to debut next year across Aug. 14-16.
Exhibition Place was becoming more of a joke year after year but what the fuck is wrong with everyone involved in this
Anonymous Canada No.150562808
>β€œThe temporary track will be built in the eastern precinct of Markham’s downtown, between Kennedy Road, Enterprise Boulevard, Unionville GO tracks and Highway 407. Renowned track designer Tony Cotman of NZR Consulting has led the design process of the temporary circuit which features a 12-turn, 3.52-kilometer (2.19-mile) layout including a double-sided pit lane, thrilling straightaways and technically challenging sectors.

My Beofeng will scan and hold for a few seconds and you can hit a button to cancel the scanning if you like what you hear. I was wondering if your rig could monitor multiple frequencies and jump to whatever is active. Tone codes would probably be helpful for that. My radio can scan for them, but it's too much hassle to do it at the track.
>If you have a favorite driver
My problem is that at IndyCar and NASCAR I'm listening to the race on the HAM frequencies. At IMSA races, I have an additional FM radio plugged into an auxiliary jack. Truth bomb. You don't even need a nice one. Those radios are like $30 and the cheaper headset was $90. There is one on Amazon for as low as $40. It's 300% worth it to just get an FM radio, ear buds and ear muffs if the track has an FM transmitter. Road Atlanta, VIR and Road America all do.

what might sideways india means or tries to imply that ford doesnt really have any in house racecar development or team.
- The Gt3 is multimatic,
- the Rally1-2-3-4 cars and the rally raid raptor is done by MSport,
- the LMDh will be also pretty questionable hwo much is it in house (possibly zero),
- F1 is badge engineered red bull powertrains
- Dupercunts IDK
- Btcc is not a factory effort
- Nascar IDK
- Tranny Am also not a factory effort
Ford is racing in a lot of places but only in disguise lol

>My Beofeng will scan and hold for a few seconds and you can hit a button to cancel the scanning if you like what you hear. I was wondering if your rig could monitor multiple frequencies and jump to whatever is active.

https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-016159

Linked above is my scanner. Its first and foremost a scanner, and that's where its best at. So all radios have a scan function, but dedicated scanners are able to cycle through frequencies at a much higher rate, and most have multiple modes they function in. Ham Radio HT's function in the same way, they tune to a frequency, listen for some kind of modulated signal for a preset time, then move to the next freq if there isn't one. As far a listening to multiple frequencies, there's only one handheld that I'm aware of that has dual receive.

https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=71-004498

But again, you're only limited to two, because that's how many receivers it has.
>Tone codes would probably be helpful for that. My radio can scan for them, but it's too much hassle to do it at the track.
Yes, the jackhammer-truck noise is annoying. They do change them after the spotter guide is published, and its a struggle for my scanner to cycle through all the subaudible tone possibilities before the transmission ends. It also doesn't automatically save them once they're found.
>My problem is that at IndyCar and NASCAR I'm listening to the race on the HAM frequencies. At IMSA races, I have an additional FM radio plugged into an auxiliary jack. I went a bit nuts and bought two so I can also talk to my freind and we can find each other super easily. People also think we are working the race and I even got accused of spotting for Corvette at the Ford hospitality suite, kek.

... and currently I have my SDS100 plugged into my active hearing protection ear muffs, they function, but they're meant for shooting, so the mics aren't tuned to filter out crowd and engine noise very well. They play scanner audio just fine.
> If you're a race fan, you really do need a scanner. If you think you don't, it's because you don't know.

I have a particular brand of autism that drives me to get the best thing I can afford, and 2 years ago that was the SDS100. Almost any handheld FM reciever is better than nothing, you'll get the race broadcast and not be totally in the dark. Ham HT's will function well enough, the freqs in Indycar are mandated to be analog and unencrypted, but if they ever update radio protocols then you'll be shit out of luck with the cheaper ones. Then again, if they use a digital protocol that your exoensive handheld doesn't support, you'll be shit out of luck then, too. They do a serviceable job as scanners, but will be beat in that regard by any of the Uniden's, and I think they're the only ones making handheld scanners, though they're certainly the best.

If you're questioning why you need one when you have a smartphone, you haven't considered that you won't be able to get the in car audio at the track when the cell tower is overloaded with 25k more user then it was designed to handle. That's where having something independent of internet and cellular infrastructure comes in.

would you go to the IndyCar race in Mexico if it happens?

Not him, but I've said I'd go and try to get TK to sign a silly photo of himself. Now, if it turns out that OCESA is asking for more money and end up jacking up the ticket prices to F1 levels, I'd have to reconsider.

One of my fondest childhood memories was attending the CART Series in Mexico City in 2002 or 2003. I live quite far away now, and to be honest, I'm not that keen on IndyCar, although it would be great to return after so long. On the other hand, I would do my best to attend the WRC if it ever returns, and I would have a very similar reaction to Uta Abe in Paris (2024) if I could see Carlos Sainz, Marcus GrΓΆnholm, Tommi MΓ€kinen, Juha Kankkunen and many others

yeah race tickets should be relatively cheap. my measuring stick is, two days at Road America is cheaper than a two hour NHL game. (go Wild but fuck your ticket prices)

what is current IndyCar missing that you liked about CART? (besides the 1000hp V8T engines, I agree, I miss them too.)

there is no going back now. Colton Herta has cast the die. crossed the Rubicon.
all future /indy/ threads will be infested by /f1/ scum. it started when Fernando Alonso attempted the 500, and it has only gotten worse every season since then. the days of comfy /indy/car threads are over.

I know that one Anon likes to talk about new frens and all that but no. everything is ruined. once the normies got interested in Formula 1, and IndyCar was involved in the F1 circus, it was all over.
