Realistically who is getting poached next year by Alabama? I really think if Deboer loses a few more games the boosters (and the school itself) are going to pony up the $60m to fire him. Alabama increased its student base by a significant margin under Saban, it would be in the school's best interest to keep football preforming well for monetary reasons. It isn't necessarily a performance issue but a culture one from all the things I'm reading. Alabama looks like a soft West Coast team. IMO the most likely candidates would be -

Look at who votes. Almost every single one of them has a paycheck that, if you trace it back far enough, comes from Disney, Fox, CBS, or NBC or in some way gets promotion from those conglomerates. The rankings are just a tool for those networks to set up matchups they can hype.

So when you see something that makes no sense, like some random team jumping into the poll or a team getting way more credit than they deserve with a massive jump, don’t ask “why?” Ask “what’s coming?” Nine times out of ten, you’ll find two teams being set up with easy schedules until they meet in a “Top 25” "Top 10" or "Top 5" clash that stations can sell the shit out of.

So if you’re wondering, “Why the hell is Utah ranked for beating a garbage UCLA team?” the answer is probably Sept 20 when they face Texas Tech on a network that needs to advertise a ranked matchup, because to casuals those numbers beside the team name in the commercial and when they look up schedules online mean a lot.

I think a big part of the equation was his offense. Saban WANTED Ryan Grubb to be his OC in 2023 and even tried to poach Drake Maye from UNC.

Nebraska (and Texas and Texas A&M and Oklahoma) was initially appeased by unequal revenue sharing, but after a bit it became pretty clear that the Big 12 was stagnate and being far outpaced by both the B1G and SEC. Even the PAC was, for a spell, outpacing them. You can blame texass or whoever else for that, but in hindsight it was not a very exciting conference outside of some outliers (K-State’s resurrection, etc)
