the league makes teams (like the Eagles last season, and now Chargers this year) forfeit home games to go play at an international neutral site against bigger bluechip teams (like the Packers, and now Chiefs) that have a stronger bandwagon fan following. This is especially important for season opener games that can generate a LOT of revenue for teams, nobody wants to give up a home game to go play their toughest opponents somewhere in the asscrack of the world. The soccer equivalent would be like UEFA making Celtic give up their champions league home game for the Real Madrid matchup and make them play in Rio's Maracana. In short, the NFL unsuccessfully tried to screw over the Eagles and they used it as motivation early in their championship season run.
