I'm 37 and grew up seeing Maradona's shitshow all over tv, I hated him and everyone who worshiped him, I don't care he was a hero on the pitch, he should've disapeared after 1986 because outside the pitch he was the biggest cunt in the country and I know many people that share my view, we only defend him in front of foreigners when talking about fútbol.
Messi on the other hand is a lovable autist, even when he was at his lowest in the NT I don't remember anyone saying anything more that some light criticism comparing his performance in our NT to Barcelona's Messi, but everybody acknowledged that he had a stellar team around.
I believe Messi is much more loved, plus younger generations don't know Maradona that much
