>Reserve Teams play in his country's league system

Bit embarrassing isn't it. Maybe your pyramids would be as strong as ours if you actually had some respect for yourselves instead of supporting like 2 teams.

We have reserve teams at step 10, OP. The difference is they're not allowed to go any higher or play in the FA Vase. I personally would have them separate from the league altogether.

Exactly lad it's completely different, and those u23 and reserve teams are those of non-league teams anyway. It's not EPL or EFL teams doing that.

I genuinely find it embarrassing seeing B / II teams in Segunda Division or 2. Bundesliga. Complete waste of a spot another senior club could have.

Having a reserve team competitive in the second division is one of my favorite parts of managing in FM. When a team of my 35+ year old locker room guys and a bunch of u23 academy graduates can win the second division while I'm winning everything else with the main team, thats when I've made it.

It is probably better for the ecosystem if they weren't there in real life, though.

There are no reserve sides in the 2nd tier, dumbass. They are allowed starting in the 3rd tier and do not participate in cup games. I agree the reserve teams of all clubs in the top four tiers should be in their own leagues, but it is negligible overall
If you weren’t busy wanking over your pyramid 24/7, you‘d have the opportunity to recognize that ours is absolutely fine

Barca B and Real Madrid Castilla are by all measures more important institutions than some provincial shithole plumber team. If you don't let the big clubs foster talent by letting them play competitive matches, you are actively harming the development of elite footballers.

One division, what a difference(!)

Spanish football summed up in one sentence.

imagine dropping to the third division, facing your rival's B team and losing at home to them

Alemannia Aachen have gotten this treatment for 11 years. They went from the Bundesliga to the 4th tier (which is divided into five leagues, as opposed to the upper tiers that are a single league) and lost to Köln II, Düsseldorf II, Gladbach II, and villages like Wiedenbrück, Lotte, Ahlen
They went bankrupt twice and almost got relegated to the 5th tier, which would have been game over
City became a madhouse when they got promoted back to the 3rd tier last year

Makes a significant difference, especially given they're still in the national pyramid. If they're included at all, reserve sides should only be at a regional level.

kek what was even the point of having that match? there's absolutely no way real madrid's board would ever let castilla win and embarrass the main team. it's basically a rigged match

I agree
You cannot get them out in total, every bumfuck village club has at least one reserve team, and that’s fine. But they shouldn’t be in the top tiers. They aren’t allowed in the top two with the Bundesliga titles. They shouldn’t be in the third tier either and play in their own leagues. Personally, I wouldn’t allow them in the five 4th leagues either so that (almost) all somewhat big clubs don’t have to fear fluctuating between the reserve leagues and the real pyramid
We have had that debate for ages. Some people say having reserve sides in the normal system helps develop youth players, but that is questionable when you look more closely. But the argument remains alive. Finances also are a reason since reserve sides in the 3rd tier don’t get a share in the TV money pot, so many clubs don’t really mind them. The reserve sides draw no crowds, but it tends to be a net positive all in all. These sides in the upper tiers are a somewhat recent phenomenon now that there is this financial disparity between clubs that reliably make international competitions or at least Bundesliga and have good youth systems … and the clubs who play 4th tier and hope to make it to the 3rd. The system wasn’t fully prepared for it that to happen
