Now that the dust has settled on one of the most farcical GTs of the last quarter-century, it is time for our last /WORLD TOUR WINE/ entry of La Vuelta.

As attention payors remember, for the last stage I choose a bottle that is not limited by the route of the race, but rather emblematic of the country's winemaking history and tradition. Today's bottle is from the southern coast - Andalucia, where the bodgeas have been making a unique wine known internationally as Sherry for centuries. Sherry is a generic term for a wide range of fortified wines, usually made from the Palamino grape. The two main types of Sherry are 1. fino, which ages in partially-filled barrels with a layer of yeast on the surface known as flor which protects it from oxygen, or 2. oloroso which ages without the protection of flor and undergoes substantial oxidation. Today's wine is a typical fino.

Pours a pale, transparent brown with medium plus body (just like me).The nose has walnuts, winter apple, and just a tinge of iodine. The palate is salty and savory, with a lovely nutty core and lively acidity. Alcohol is a bit stiff.

This is a lovely wine....Sherry definitely one of the great food wines of the planet, pairs so well with cheeses, meats, Eastern cuisine. It is not profound but it is a lovely drink. And with that, we say adios to La Vuelta and farewell to /wtw/ until almost mid-October.
