He's not done, the backfield was always going to be split between them. His biggest problem is that the line apparently is fucking ass in run blocking. He keeps getting met in the backfield constantly. Najee was always going to be the pass catching back and start slow since he missed the entire offseason. Hampton also looks great in pass pro so he will stay in play and get some touches at least.

All that said I did pick up Najee off the waivers this week as a precaution.

Did you watch the part of the game where he was getting hit in the backfield on those goal line carries and the fumble while Najee was getting end of game reps for easy yardage. Did you watch the part where Hampton has been elite in pass pro which is what keeps running backs on the field. Or the part where Hampton keeps breaking tackles but it doesn't translate to great YPC because he's getting tackled in the backfield.

If the Chargers manage to fix their run blocking issues so that he doesn't have break tackles just to reach the LoS Hampton is going to go off. And if they can't Najee is only going to help by being a PPR merchant because they use him as a the pass catching back.

2. the ball was coming out of hampton's hands before crosby even made contact on his fumble, so he either butterfingered it or saw crosby and pussied out. the coaches know this
3. najee harris is a great pass blocker as well so that's not exactly moving the needle. najee is also built like a tank for an RB at 6'1" 242 lbs

i actually agree that hampton is due for some big carries because of his tackle-breaking ability. it's easily the best part of his game. but if your game is predicated on home runs you're generally just a very frustrating fantasy own, especially if you were drafted as a starter. and if you're making unforced turnovers or mental mistakes like giving the chiefs the ball back before halftime, it really doesn't fucking matter how good you are in pass pro, you're gonna get the ball less. both rookie mistakes, both fixable. but the idea that omarion hampton would run away with this backfield is now tabled.

He's not going to "take over", Conner's role is secure. Benson has a good share of the role already so he's worth rostering in most leagues.
