They'd been looking for an excuse to sack Lage for a while now. Lage was already speaking like a manager who knows he's an interim at his job for a while now and that they were just waiting for him to slip a little to fire him, normally a coach would have to lose at least a few more matches than Lage did in order to get fired.

Call me a schizo if you must but I fully believe that Mourinho and Benfica had been planning this move for a while. Lage was never fully considered as a long term coach for Benfica and Mourinho clearly treated Fenerbahçe as nothing more than a quick check to cash. Both parties were just waiting for both to have a bad streak so they'd have a plausible excuse to make their moves, in Benfica's case to fire Lage and in Mourinho's case to quit his job. I wouldn't even be surprised if some of Benfica's transfer market moves this summer were made with Mourinho's input, there were some statements made by both Mourinho and Lage that made me suspect that but maybe I'm getting a bit too schizo with that one, but can't nobody tell me that this whole thing wasn't being planned by Rui Costa as a big electorial move for a long time now.

As a Porto fan, no I don't think of it as treason.
He's not a Porto fan, and never pretended to be, he's a Setubal fan, and a professional at the end of the day.
He gave me some of my fondest memories of my club that I don't think any of us here in Portugal will ever feel again (wining the CL) due to how football works nowadays.
That being said, Benfica is kinda of a mess internally, and he's kinda washed, so it's only a matter of one or two years before he's sacked again.
He'll probably get boo'ed at the Dragão while he represents Benfica, but people here will always remember his time at Porto at the end of the day.
