Geelong desperate to avoid falling off the cliff, but it's inevitable.
Same problem as Collingwood; too many critical dependencies on older players. They would've missed top 4 without 35 year old Dangerfield last year. Next year he's 36, Cameron 33, Blicavs 35, Stewart 33, no ruckman.
This is exactly why they are so desperate to land Curnow and Marshall. They know they don't have any quality youth in reserve let along replacements for those dependencies, so all they can do is keep desperately prolonging the inevitable and hope to pinch one in what's proving to be an increasingly competitive era.
Brisbane will get better, Gold Coast will get better, Adelaide will get better, GWS will get better, Sydney will almost certainly fire back up (especially if they get Curnow), Bulldogs will get better, Hawthorn will get better, Fremantle will get better, St Kilda are a wildcard. Even North Melbourne might finally arrive following a promising end to the season.

Now they lose Mihocek (30-40 goals) from an already weak forward line, they got snubbed by Oliver and they are still critically dependent on a 38 year old Pendlebury.

It's crazy to think Collingwood could've selected Daicos and Finn Callaghan from the 2021 draft, but they traded their future first in 2020 in the belief they'd be contending the next year. As of right now they have no good replacements for Pendlebury, Sidebottom, De Goey and Crisp in midfield, all of whom are 30+.
They have no hope of keeping up the pace next year. The competition will get a lot stronger and they're going to have a worse list.
