Just to let you in on Penn State insight, the school is having many cuts right now. Many of the satellite campuses across the state are shutting down soon and are its PBS and NPR stations. Of course admin pay goes up as always.
While athletic funding is its own separate entity that 50 million payout could be used to keep the stations going for years or to keep one of those satellite schools open for awhile. This would be very bad optics if they fire Franklin and pay that out in the middle of all this. This would wipe away all those cost savings they are trying. They simply cannot.
