IIRC it was on paper the biggest mismatch in japan series history.

NPB still has pitchers bat in the CL but they will add the DH in 2027. Other than that it is more pitching heavy than MLB. Starters work on a week's rest and 6 man rotations are the norm. Hitting is much less reliant on 3 True Outcomes and slugging with rare exceptions. The playoffs are obviously different given there's only two 6-team leagues.

>>151458044
Every team is owned by a corporation except Hiroshima, Korea and Taiwan are the same. Ironically its a less corporate environment than MLB. Tickets are very reasonable price wise and you're not totally bombarded with ads and shilled DraftKings the whole time. The teams still have rich culture (chants, songs, fan traditions) and distinct identity. The fact that big name free agency and trades in general are relatively uncommon means that even the FA-heavy moneybag teams like the Hawks and Giants are still by large majority homegrown talent, which is nice.

No, they have their own leagues, although they sent teams to Koshien during the imperial period. But their leagues have the same corporate sponsorship thing going on - Rakuten even has a Taiwan team in addition to the one in Tohoku.
Anonymous Hong Kong No.151458472 [Report] >>151458588
>>151458332
The teams were historically used as advertising ventures for the companies, most didn't even make a profit and many have relocated or changed hand multiple times when the owner company struggled or folded.

In Hiroshima's case, a scion of the Matsuda family (the creators of Mazda) holds the majority stake in the team personally instead of through the company. Thus it is technically family owned (even though they are connected to Mazda and Mazda Corporation owns 40% of the team and sponsors the stadium they play in)

>>151458351
What >>151458392 said. Also there is no (official) gambling in NPB, it was actually a scandal among the players early this year. There is no shameless open partnership or integration with the betting markets like in the US. It still happens naturally, just not publicly.

I think Nippon Ham has a good shot honestly. Tigers are maybe a little better overall but if the Fighters can get to the pitching or at least take advantage of the late rotation / low leverage guys they can win it. Hanshin's lineup is also very top heavy and has very little offensive depth on the bench, so their 6-9 hitters need to produce in big spots like they did against Orix in '23 if they want to stay ahead of the Fighters bats.

The foolish Climax Series introduced by the Pacific League is ruining the NPB.
The Giants haven’t won the championship in 14 years.
At this rate, the Japan Series will undoubtedly lose to the MLB World Series in TV ratings.

>Legal subscription official channels Japanese commentary
Persol Pacific League TV
Only PL games but access to all regular season and CS games, but no JS. Access to a lot of off the field content, but you wont find much value with no JP skills.
ToraTele
Only Hanshin Tigers games. No JS. Basically the only legal way to watch CL teams play without jumping through massive hoops.
Those two are really the only ones that accept non-Japanese bank cards making signing up less of a hassle.

Yarrrr.
Typically Japanese commentary only either direct broadcast commentary or amateur commentary. Very very rare to find amateur English brods
Very fickle, broadcasts can be shutdown in the middle of games all the time. Sites are always changing and hard to come by without JP skills.

Watch the JS through TVer and just live with the Japanese commentary. You might find a stream on youtube of some guy doing amateur Eng commentary to supplement. At the start of next season try to catch some games on FTF and see how you like it from there.

Fujikawa is a living legend in NPB so obviously that helped, but he's a good fit in general. The Tigers are a young, pitching heavy team, and Fujikawa is young and a star pitcher. He's had MLB experience so maybe they thought he could bring fresh perspective, considering they went from oldest NPB manager in Okada to now one of the youngest. On top of that he's clearly intelligent and is well spoken and courteous. So his decisions are solid, he commands respect and he's been a great public face for the team this year, especially compared to the likes of the Giants' Shinnosuke Abe. The Tigers FO made a gamble knowing he had no experience and it clearly paid off.

Yes I've been very blessed. I got into the Tigers after their awful 2018 when they were still shifting from super FA reliant to a team built on homegrown talent and smart scouting. I never would have guessed five years later they would go all the way and become a regular contender. Same with the Jays going from worst to first this year. I'd been waiting all year for the collapse that never came, and now here we are. Typical Hanshin mentality.

>>151613665
Higher than people give them credit for but LA are still the favourites obviously. The bullpen in particular is a huge weakness for us. Basically the Jays have to get an offensive jump and good rhythm together before they bring those guys in. If they can't (see today), then it is going to be basically impossible to win it all.

>On May 11, 2023, it was reported from Bunshun Online that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department was investigating Yamakawa for sexually assaulting a female acquaintance at a hotel in Tokyo in November 2022.[3] Bunshun Online reported that said female acquaintance had suffered bleeding injuries from the vagina and other parts of the body, and that the police had received a damage report on suspicion of indecent assault and rape. Yamakawa, however, stated that all was consensual and he had relations with the woman. [3] In response to this, on May 12, the Lions removed Yamakawa from their active roster indefinite.[4] On 29, it was announced that Yamakawa would not face charges as a result of the allegations.[5]
