Rummenigge and other Bauernfags tried dunking on him because they were mad Bayern didn't get him (they desperately tried to force Stuttgart's hand, but Stuttgart didn't budge). Most other Bundesliga people were somewhat shocked Newcastle paid that much money for him. Woltemade had barely played half a very good season, so Stuttgart demanded 70 million for the lulz to get Bayern to fuck off, and then Newcastle comes and offers 85 million. Everyone who isn't a Bayern drone wanted him to succeed though, and they all knew he might
What was the echo in English media? I doubt he was well-known in England at that point

I don't know, I just know I saw him in the U21 Euros and thought he looked pretty good. He's gangly, v. opportunistic and doesn't seem to feel pressure.

Newcastle might have "overpaid" for Woltemade, but since they were getting a fat sum for Isak anyway they could afford it. It was like Barcelona spunking a ton of money on Coutinho because they got Neymar money.

I watched this guy in the u21 euros when England beat Germany in the final. He was one of the players that lit up the tournament. Imagine Peter Crouch but with pace and better finishing. The kid will end up being one of the greatest German strikers of all time most likely.

Can't blame you. The opposite, even. When I saw him in action for the first time on a decent level like two years ago, I immediately thought "oh, he surely is unique. Let's see where this goes"
He has great potential, is a special, good, and entertaining player ... and a nice guy

same. luv me unique players, simple as. really struggling to think of any contemporary players who'd be worthy of that adjective. calafiori i guess? not really for his physical attributes but a cb-turned-box-to-box-wildcard-madman-lb is pretty unique.
frenkie de jong back at ajax had kaka-esque speed on the ball that i haven't seen before or since from the in the dmf position.
