Hes small so yes hes going to get hunted, he didnt actually play that bad defensively, he doubled at the right time, zoned properly, switched decently, hes an okay team defender, they didnt actually lose that many points when he was on the court, and Shai was scoring on everybody once he got that weird midrange pushoff down, because nearly every single one of his middys were uncontested, even Amen wasnt stopping him, and shai didnt even play that good this game OT. Saved his efficiency hard, because he got more shots up and freethrows, and even then, he was still below 45 fg%

The ACTUAL problem if you were watching, was Reed's offense.

I think it was a confidence thing because this dude picks up the ball so early for a guard its crazy. He clearly has no handle, or good ball security or else he wouldn't pick up so early. The second problem is that when hes out of the play, he'll either be standing in the corner or WAAAY at the top of the key. Thats why so many of his shots were so far out. Hes not a good cutter, hes not good offball, he cant create space, and his pull up isnt fast enough for a dribble hand off shot.

Dont get me wrong, part of the reason he sucks so bad is because Houstons offensive gameplan is legitimately garbage. But the reason Houstons offense is garbage is because EVERYBODY is like Reed but slightly better. They also dont cut, also dont move off ball, so ball movement is poor, but even if they did, the only passer that can take advantage of that is Sengun and Reed. The funny thing is reed actually did make a couple solid passes, but every time it was to that blubbering oaf steve adams that cant catch a ball or put it in the basket.

I watched both of the games today and unironically I think Luka is a worse foul baiter than shai. Shai just makes it "look" worse. Its not exactly about "getting to his spot" its not a mystery how he gets to his spot yet durant couldnt. Shai is a good ball handler who isnt just flashy, but actually protects the ball well. What im wondering, is how almost all his shots end up with him a couple feet away from his defender like they just detached from him.

Whether KD gets his "spots" depends on where he receives the ball, because his handle isnt tight enough to consistently create space against lockdown defenders, but he can cheat sometimes with his height anyway. Shai brings the ball up himself often and can create space with a good dribble.
