He admitted to looking at an engine while playing during his streams. Does that count as cheating? In my opinion yes. Why would you look at an engine while involved in a game unless you were cheating. Apparently he tried to explain it away multiple times so it really bothered him.

This isn't far from the truth but it isn't perfectly transparent either. It's less about men not being welcoming than it is about women not liking male-dominated environments period. Most girls will tell you they'd rather work in an all-female environment than a more evenly mixed one or, God forbid, male-domimated. And there's no particular reason for it either other than they just like it more like that. Not to say that serious problems like sexism and harassment don't exist, but the truth is that they just prefer to be around women overall.

Chess players are generally nice people (especially the geriatrics) who are welcoming to all regardless of gender. I don't think I've ever seen or heard anything even vaguely discrimimatory in a chess club or tournament. But if a girl walks into a room with 17 men and no other woman, she's likely to feel immediately discouraged from becoming a regular and staying with that group.

And I say this without a "this is the truth about roasties!!!" accusatory tone. It's fine if they feel this way and it just stresses the importance of stuff like women's tournaments and clubs. Girls don't like the feeling of being the only girl in the room.
