It's just hitting what Rock hit 20 years ago.
There's too much competition at the bottom and at the top too many legacy acts that are sucking up the space while creating shit.
All genres go through it.
The good aspects of rap, (fast talking rhyming rhythmic lyrics, sampling, quick repetitive drum) were incorporated into general pop, the destructive aspects of rap (bragging lyrics, generic rhythms, robot voice autotune) have generally waned out of pop.
We're in the middle of something where something is gonna come up and change everything, we just don't know the what or where.
