Ten years ago /sp/ had one of the strongest board cultures until it got obliterated by mods. /sp/ was apparently not allowed to have any off-topic threads or do anything but run of the mill game threads and generals

What was the point of funneling everyone into very strict discussions if those very strict discussions are just schizo-posters accusing people of being other schizo-posters? Here's the standard /epl/ thread:

Eighty per cent of the soccer threads made on here have no real justification to deserve being their own separate thread. Soccer posters seem to be mindless spammers who think that their inane stream of consciousness is somehow worth a two line thread with four or five replies. Maybe if soccer fans contained themselves we wouldn't have such Draconian mods.

It's kind of funny how tripfags disappeared. I wish I saved the thread, but a few years ago an Australian did the autism maths and found that there used to be as high as 10% of posts on /sp/ made by tripfags, but now it's under 1%.
Flags made "tripfags" of people whether they like it or not. There was that Man United supporting Filipino back in 2015, and a more modern example is the Dutch flagged DSL. And of course schizos make up names for people and start posting about them.

Generals ruined /sp/ because it enables schizos to sock puppet to themselves all day in threads that won’t get jannied, because it’s a general. /mlb/ is a great example of this. the baskin tranny from /tv/ is also the most prolific poster in the /mlb/ general. His garbage threads get deleted on /tv/ before they ever hit twenty replies. On /sp/ he talks to himself all day, every day, 365 days a year to the point where the general is unusable outside of the first month of the season and playoffs.

Banning generals would solve 80% of the problems on the board. They enable the retards to have protected threads to shit up. Whereas when their spam threads have to stand on their own merit, everyone calls them retards and eventually starts reporting them.

We (>we) needed new blood but the old internet rabbit hole is gone and even the autists who would have called 4chan home are on discord and twitter and shit now. It's over. Gatekept into oblivion.

There's still plenty of opportunity to make a good thread, and sometimes it happens. The problem is, it feels like there aren't enough good threads. But I have been here for well over a decade now, and this is not the worst /sp/ has ever been, not by a long shot. And it's not an influx of new shitty posters, because we've all been here since 2018 at the most recent. So why do people think we've got worse?

Theory #1: We've run out of things to say. All the funny posters have exhausted their creative genius, and now we're all too jaded to keep on being cool bros.

Theory #2: the good posters all left, and only the losers remain. If you're funny and you put a lot of effort into your posts, and you brighten the room whenever you walk in, it makes sense that you'll probably get a gf at some point. So all our social ringleaders are all married with kids and don't come here any more, and anyone who's still here is an incel loser whose posts are not worth reading.

Theory #3: online culture is literally poisonous AIDS and we're all just lying on the floor begging for ebin maymays like the Chinese opium dens of the 19th century. We've seen so much banter, and had so much fun, that we are now completely incapable of doing anything that's difficult, which would entertain the rest of us. All we can do is stare blankly at /sp/ and complain.

Theory #4: nobody over 35 is funny. That's all of us now, and while it's quite an extreme theory, it is supported by the film careers of people like Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin who just turned to complete shit as they got older.

Theory #5: websites are dead and the only hilarious banter now is in WhatsApp groups and on Discord. That would explain why Facebook's got the same problem.

All in all, 4chan is still a pretty good place, so shut the fuck up, you faggot nigger pussy bitches. I don't know what the oldest picture I have in my 4chan folder is, but it could be this one so let's post it here.

This might be an american-centric take, but 4chan in general has been in decline since the first Trump presidency. This site has always been a contraband site where you say the opposite of what you mean and hide behind layers upon layers of irony.
