Archive.org 90s Sample CDs (~343GB, over 500 CDs)
A few days ago, an Internet Archive collection titled "90s Sample CDs" was DMCA'd. This collection contains many classic sample CDs from the 90s - 00s (Zero-G, Best Service, AKAI, Spectrasonics etc.) and the original archive.org page had over 14,000 views. With the help of a few other people, I have collected around 500 CDs from the original archive, and converted most of them from their original formats. Some of the disc images require proprietary tools to use properly, and will show up as broken or empty if you try to open them in an archiver or mount them as a disc. I have taken the liberty of converting what I can to uncompressed .wav files. Additional information from the original uploader can be found at https://pastebin.com/VaxsxX2a

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:028386da350f4b7f1f3a53b6403f3b717e913bb8&dn=90ssamplecds&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.opentrackr.org%3a1337%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2f9.rarbg.com%3a2810%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2fexodus.desync.com%3a6969%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3a6969%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2fretracker.lanta-net.ru%3a2710%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2fopen.stealth.si%3a80%2fannounce&tr=http%3a%2f%2fopenbittorrent.com%3a80%2fannounce

You can also download the torrent file from https://nnty.fun/downloads/torrent/90ssamplecds.torrent
The file list is at https://pastebin.com/0dE05GKE

The total file size is about 343GB, and I am seeding from a gigabit internet connection. At the time of writing I am the only seeder.

What is a sample CD?
Anonymous No.1058859 [Report] >>1060115 >>1317110
>>1058856
Sample CDs are sound libraries, usually centered around a specific theme or music genre, intended for DJs and music producers. They contain high quality audio recordings of various loops, vocals, effects, one-shot instruments, and more. Many of the sample CDs in this archive are considered to have had a great influence on electronic music as a whole, and you may recognize many of the sounds in these CDs not only from electronic music, but also film and video game soundtracks. A good portion of sample CDs from this time were released in proprietary formats for specific hardware samplers, and converting them to something like WAV in a modern operating system often requires the use of poorly programmed, proprietary software. In the present day, sample libraries are distributed through purchasable downloads in lossless formats like WAV, AIFF etc.

https://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/10-classic-sample-libraries-that-changed-music-631133
Anonymous No.1058860 [Report]
>>1058856
I will also add that many older sample libraries contained uncleared samples, that is, samples of audio that were not cleared for use by the copyright holder of the original work. Many samples in these libraries were simply taken from other works of electronic music, which means a lot of these CDs are no longer officially available to purchase from the companies legally. Many of these CDs are, or at least, were hard to find on the internet before the archive.org collection was made. It should also be noted that the DMCA notice was only targeting a small minority of the whole collection, however it still resulted in the entire archive being removed.

The files that you can store in https://archive.org are divided into different collections (texts, audio, movies, software, pictures, etc) and these collections are different from the web content captured by crawlers that hosts the wayback machine, which would come to be a separate section within the Internet Archive. To upload files you must register an account.

Well, they pretty much have the 90ssamplecds collection from the archive, and the link above is a different collection by the same uploader. Authors of this torrent and anyone involved at any capacity, bless you!
Many are still available (I haven't encountered any specific item yet that isn’t available) but may need to be rearchived. Whether this is worthy of a torrent is up to interpretation. They don’t fit any theme like 90ssamplecds.
Lastly, if anyone knows of any unavailable sample CD to this torrent I will search my HD for it and upload it here.

The generated torrent of the original 90sSampleCDs item stopped updating since April 2020. The latest version that is known only has 11 GB of sample packs:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:9a154000908f0509b276d5268c6e98af4717b28e&dn=90ssamplecds

Perhaps the Internet Archive tracker system crashed due to the large size of the item, or cuz some Mod blocked the auto-updater due to some claim or suspicion of copyright infringement.
Anonymous No.1068154 [Report] >>1068431
Probably a stupid question but are these usable for random stuff? or is it all copyrighted?

This is a warning that Spectrasonics sample CDs carry by default:

https://vocaroo.com/1moBw1Llyak4

No matter how old they are, all sample packs are determined by the same license: if you can't prove you have purchased an original copy, you can't legally use them.

Then there is a second problem: even with an original purchase license, many samples have been reported for copyright infringement since their creation. For example, Michel Jarre sued Zero-G for including samples of his music without his authorization in the Datafiles, for this reason Time & Space stopped selling them 20 years ago.

Now does all this matter? Don't many EDM producers continue to use them without giving a shit to anyone? Even many samples that technically violate copyright have become cliché. If you are a producer who wants to market your music, I doubt you have to worry about this shit at this point.
Anonymous No.1068441 [Report]
>>1068431
That audio seems brainless to me. What if you lost your license or the original CD after having released your trax? Will they doxx you to know if you are in the history of the store where you bought it? What if the store or website that gave you the original license no longer exists? Will they ask for a search warrant if you refuse to show them your original CD?

Even more: Why would sampling companies harass you for copyright infrigment when they themselves violate it by stealing the samples they sell?

All this is absurd, no wonder no one gives a shit.

THEN

Add it to QBittorent, and watch it crawl, and chew up resources building out the directory.... it will seem like it is locked up, but it will finish!

Also if we pool our resources we could likely get some rarer sampleCDs from traders. I'll try to find some examples but there are a few I've seen

in terms of sampling if it can't be recognized then no one can catch u snaggin it, that being said its super muddy. In my experience I rarely see anyone get slapped on hand for using drum samples because its so hard to say "my 808 is clearly on this track" besides some other fl studio dorks but in terms of chords (not owned by anyone), melody gets fuzzy, + arrangements and actual just straight up samples its going to just depend. Obviously if you take someones songs and sample it you're going to have to clear it for distribution or risk getting fucked up the wazoo legally. A lot of ppl sell/make sample packs like the CDs in the torrent on this thread and that also gets into a weird place legally because 1. you should probably at least credit someone if you use their shit they made themselves and you intend distributing it especially for self profit 2. the license they may have on those sounds may require royalties. Everything in here is going to be case by case as is ownership of any sound. Digital music making as well as the old school boomer way in terms of cribbings someones shit has always been about risk-assessment, Led Zeppelin got away with it for the most part so it's just going to depend

You have to click the torrent button under PNG in the download section. I can't for the life of me figure out a way to generate a magnet link.

Point of interest: The Fifth Element score/Soundtrack sampled from Distorted Reality extensively.

Eric Persing's "Iceland 1" became Eric Serra's "Mandoshawan", "The Tattoo", and all of the Divine sound effects come from these samples.

Yes, fuck archive.org. They deleted a 900-GB full website WARC of this one deleted booru site. They deleted every upload where the identifier started with "youtube" in this one account (amounts to more than 40 GB of YouTube videos). They deleted many things which they never should have deleted in the past and future.

For now, I'll say that they deleted this Led Zeppelin discography:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:f7eb49ac3754f29d2262b8abc77225dd2522f098&dn=Led%20Zeppelin%20-%20Discography&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.tntvillage.scambioetico.org%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.tntvillage.scambioetico.org%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.coppersurfer.tk%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.leechers-paradise.org%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2FIPv6.leechers-paradise.org%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.internetwarriors.net%3A1337%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.tiny-vps.com%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.mg64.net%3A2710%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80%2Fannounce

I'm trying to download OP's thing now ("90ssamplecds"). We need to band together those who dislike and those who like archive.org and save its stuff that they deleted or didn't delete yet.

Internet Archive trannies also deleted this (ID youtube_gz2ocfYAFJs):

Said in that video:
>I'm sure most of you have seen those cats in the Chinese restaurant with the one paw raised up. And you've all heard about the Chinese obsession with luck. [...] You see luck coming up a lot in the Chinese culture. Alternatively "fortune", fortune cookie. [...] really this is a terrible terrible translation of the concept. For one thing, no body in Western culture believes in luck aside from a few sad gambling addicts. Luck is a flip of the coin. It's one of those things that happens. The most iconic believer in luck that we have is Two Face from Batman. And his belief in luck isn't an actual belief in fate. It is, it isn't a faith in luck.
>It is a rejection of faith. He's shouting that there is nothing but the material world and the flip of a coin. And so to accuse the Chinese in believing in luck like a gambler or a self-destructive monster. It infantilizes a culture which is far more profound than that. The Chinese don't believe in luck. Fortune is the better translation of that. And it's not unearned fortune. See, luck of the draw: that's is unearned. Sometimes it rains on you sometimes the sun shines on you. It's just the way life works, right? Sometimes you win the bet sometimes you lose the bet.
>That's not what fortune means to the Chinese. Fortune means that if you run your business properly, you will have a successful business. That cat with its paw raised is a reminder of that. It's saying that despite the whims of fate -- and yes they will buffet you -- if you run your business properly, it will succeed. Buddha talked about the path [..]

does anyone have a good version of cdextract? or does the one in >>1083085 just flag because of a crack?

This is really cool. does anybody know if there are any floppy images about? I have an esi 4000 with a gotek installed but have been pretty limited on the floppies I can find online/work out how to convert disks into multiple floppies. Will archive any that I come across though
Anonymous No.1379895 [Report]
While your effort is incredible, the torrent itself is pretty messy - there are multiple 8GB unplayable WAV files (probably because cdxtract hung and generated huge wav),
there are some dupes as well - some of them are in 7z format, others are in iso.

just letting you know about the issues ;)
Anonymous No.1379901 [Report]
As for Syntaur - Steve Gadd Drumscores - SCD-3, there are a lot of dupes due to the failed extraction, if anyone needs it unzipped you can run it through duplicate scanner and it should nuke 19602 duplicate entries
