There was stuff that depicted real life events that happened to minors which is why he got busted. He operated for over two decades and was probably good until he accepted stories and art from site subscribers that ended up being about real abuse and assault of minors.
The only other conviction I know about along those lines in the last decade was Frank McCoy, who was also busted for stuff related to real life depictions. It seems the only reason they couldn't issue harsher charges was because Franky there had auto wiping software to delete the worst of the worst on his computers before police could seize them.
So at the end of the day, as long as it's all fictional with no hint relating to an actual real life event, law enforcement will not push to prosecute. But give the slightest hint of stepping over that line, the FBI will be the ones busing down your door.
