Though obviously I would be very interested in getting 4k restoration in remux quality. People have been talking about that for a long time, I think it would be done if more people knew about it. I only found out the other day.

80s movies are shot on film, beautiful grainy film. Film has a lot of grain and detail that gets lost when you encode it to low bitrates. Since film is analog there isn't really a resolution like there is with digital video, so even if you scan some old black and white movie there can be details at 4K and beyond. It's actually more modern things or stuff like cartoons that can compress to lower filesizes while keeping all detail. But you also must keep in mind that we don't always get a source as good as that one for every movie. Studios often botch the releases or apply too much noise reduction to them and make them look like shit.
