We don't know where the Stone Heads come from in their most early form, and being genuinely magical, its possible they can just be created out of thin air by the transmutation, or she just assembled them from whatever was lying around.
She talks to us as an individual in some fashion even after being turned into a Ball, which would be unlikely if she was purely a forced homunculus of a dozen sorcerers.
Like I said, you can accidentally turn yourself into a mad science experiment.
Sellen obviously experimented on other sorcerers before we meet her. But that doesn't preclude her from making a final error in her investigation of the primeval current and ironically ending up as all of her previous experiments did.

Sellen is the only Graven Witch we meet, therefore she's the only one that matters.
The only two others that we know care about the primeval current are Azur and Lusat, who she abducts for experimentation or kills. And were basically brain dead before that point regardless.
