He starts baiting Thog in a way that's extremely obvious to the reader, though it's not clear what he's doing when the first pillar breaks. But once you know what's going on, that one upside-down image makes all the sense in the world. The shadows cast by the pillars made him realize that there was an opportunity that he could take advantage of.
And then, the panels themselves are just a high stack of horizontal action as we move from column to column, up until it's time to show off the plan. Then it suddenly shifts to a vertical focus so we can clearly see the consequences of the action.
We tend to think "wow, he actually probably killed Thog, that's crazy." But there's a lot going on here that's worth giving Rich some praise for.
