Elves and catfolks would obviously be high up the list of creatures to genetically engineer, and people on high gravity worlds would likely adapt into dwarves.

Vampires would make *excellent* astronauts, because they can already go into hypersleep for centuries at a time, and their food supply (blood) also conveniently acts as a very powerful healing tool that can regenerate them from almost anything. Space suits will already protect them from sunlight, and no other vampire weaknesses are likely to be in outer space. The more supernatural the vampires are, the better their utility (stronger, faster, ability to fly, etc are all advantages over a pure human) and since vampires are isolated antisocial creatures they are less likely to go insane from being trapped in a metal box for months at a time.

Other kinds of undead have similar advantages, but are more likely to have physical or cognitive impairments that would be a no-go on a space mission. Vampires, meanwhile, are low cost to make and high payoff.

Because sex robots would be one of the most profitable things on the planet in a cyberpunk hellscape where real relationships are a pipe dream for the majority and the world is designed to make you feel isolated and alone.
The sex-robots free real-estate for demonic possession would just be a natural consequence in a sci-fantasy blended setting.

Depending on the type of werewolf, they'd make excellent soldiers and bodyguards. A soldier with endless stamina, superstrength, and immortality frames vs anything other than silver would be More effective and Cheaper than replacing entire regiments of highly trained soldier every time a military-grade cyber-psycho tears through the city block.

Vampires can slip pretty comfortably into bad-future settings too. Vampires running cyberpunk corpos or hiding among the lower classes because they've been out-competed as parasites. Roving bands of vampires in addition to the other kinds of marauders in Mad Max style post-apocalypse settings, or other vampires still trying to integrate into survivor groups to cling to the remnants of civilization. Vampires coming out of hiding to fight alien invaders for the right to enslave humanity.

Cyberpunk urban fantasy in particular appeals to me, but not in the Shadowrun style where the magic just comes back. More in the style where the World of Darkness has to struggle to keep up with the advancements. I know there was a WoD/Cyberpunk 2020 crossover back in the 90s but that was long enough ago that I think the idea deserves to be revisited.

Imagine if we develop cyberware, and it turns out that one of the distinguishing features of cyberware is that it doesn't *work* on creatures like vampires. The body rejects the cyberware, or the cyberware malfunctions in a vampire, etc. Their unholy regeneration never stops trying to push the metal parts out of their body/the moment they turn into a bat things get REALLY gross really fast.

There being a hard line between inherently powerful supernatural baddies and humans using cybernetics could be interesting as design space for a world.

Skeletons are almost always presented as mindless automatons, at that point you might as well have just sent a computer.

Liches would be able to do the job, but are extremely rare and rather unlikely to do the job instead of delegating it to someone else. You don't master darkest necromancy and live for centuries as one of the most powerful wizards alive just so that you can take orders from mortals.
Also: the biggest benefit for liches is also a negative in this context. If something does manage to happen to the Lich out in deep space, one of two things will happen:
1: they respawn back on earth where their phylactery is, leaving the rest of the mission crew and the spaceship behind without them. This is bad.
2: They respawn on the ship, but that means they took their phylactery WITH THEM HOLY SHIT WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? IF THE SHIP BLOWS UP YOU'LL BE FUCKING TRAPPED IN THE VOID OF SPACE YOU MORON

Daemon is already a computer term. It means any process that goes off to do something on its own after having been given instructions.
A 'wizard' is a program that makes daemons and commands them.
This is why when you go to install or uninstall something, its called an Install Wizard.

Hmmm. Valid. At the bare minimum you probably need to send a probe to send back pictures so you can teleport to a place you have a visual record of.

If you need to have been their personally, this does still have an interesting impact on space travel: you can afford to design space ships to be one way. No need to reserve supplies and fuel for a return journey, you spaceship out and then teleport back, and use the teleport spell to bring some more people with you on a repeat trip so THEY have been there before and you are no longer reliant on just one specific guy, and so on from there.

I always liked the idea of a centaur body being some sort of prosthetic you slip into somehow. Like your in some far off rimworld space cowboy future and you opt to occasionally staple yourself onto a horse body instead of using a vehicle.
I cant honestly see how it'd really work for a human body though so maybe centaurs just being six legged beings with a very flexible morphology works better and they're more 'called centaurs' than actually looking like them. Theyd probably actually run on all sixes like some kind of weird lizard, but then switch to four and have their front two legs turn into arms for when they want to use tools.

I swear i remember seeing a picture of something like that. Maybe it was in Eclipse Phase? Or was it 40k that had a faction like that?

I don't have it so heres a picture of a slime cyborg instead which also fits.

good point if we asume ALL light reflected or not is harmfull to vampires in this case.
this logic would bring in the humble torch as a perfect anti vampire weapon for its light damage alone.
But its clear vampire are fine in the night around campries and well lit houses.
It could be UV or a unknown holy force comming from the sun (stars) that isnt harmfull when reflected but deadly to undead in direct cases.

Artist is automatic giraffe and it seems like this character is a repeat subject for them, though none of the pictures ive seen are this in-depth.
I'd assume the point is the slime is the actual living creature, and everything else is just an accessory to improve her life, up to and including the head which is just something she controls and uses to interact with people. It's a cool idea.

The idea of slimes needing to absorb bones to actually take shapes and move around comes up in fantasy every so often. The reason we need skeleton are that muscles can only pull - they cannot push - so by bracing against a hard object it allows us to actually move around. You'd expect a slime without something rigid to brace on would be weak at anything except pulling too and so just flop around.
One of the Brandon Sanderson books - Mistborn - had slimes like that. Except they were scavengers who would just grab whatever bones they could and rolled with it, so they just wandered around with seven legs, multiple spines and two heads or whatever.

If I was to guess similar ideas are probably the inspiration to this. She's got bones from somewhere to allow a humanoid form, but then has gone to cyborg implants, extra internals and a head for socializing.

>bad
Only for complete utter imaginationlets.
You can only think of a phylactery triggering on emergency, and can't see the potential benefits of manually triggering it for instant travel across the stars.
A phylactery is nothing more than a better, auto-casted, failproof teleport.
>Send a very small very fast ship towards a planet

Less food to eat, smaller rockets to get them up, can still use guns for shit. I could see that giving them a head start and causing whatever lore developing from there.

I think their original point about liches not being all that common would stand. I dont think entire crews of liches should be a thing. I see a lich as some powerful undead wizard who has worked to get that status; if you can mass-produce/assign phylacteries then the word sort of loses meaning because fucking everyone would be a lich.

I'd say a lich would probably be stationed on important military ships, especially those operating in deep space or close to enemy borders. That kind of ship being destroyed is important, rather than it just going out of contact and no one knowing what has happened the lich is a literal deadmans switch that tells everyone whats up.

>>95815099
They'd probably do fine on all kinds of ships, just because being smaller would mean theyd be great for maintenance. Not sure how well fairy wings would work in microgravity though... and if you're thinking they live in space full time ive just had a really disturbing thought.

The idea is space adjusted humans would after generations get taller and taller and you'd have a bunch of nine foot tall lanky frail fuckers. Now im thinking about a bunch of gnomes and dwarfs who have spent generations in no gravity and now just look exactly like humans.

You're both thinking about this wrong, first in terms of lacking creativity and second in terms of being too gimmicky. The lich is a supremely efficient astronaut in basic material terms. Yes they are rare, but people with the intelligence and fitness to be man a spacecraft are also rare, liches would be smart enough and magically empowered enough to fit the bill perfectly. Full lich crews might be impractical due to their rarity, but a lich, as an inherently skilled necromancer and caster, is uniquely suited to run a spacecraft independently, animating skeleton support crew and monitoring/interfacing with the machinery via simple spells.
Most importantly, you must think about space missions in terms of delta v, the thrust you can get from a spaceship limited by the weight of fuel you're lifting. The phylactery of the lich is a huge benefit of this in simple terms of allowing you to cross off any need for the ship to return on a mission that isn't predicated on bringing back samples.
A lich could be launched on a mission to Mars, run the craft using skeletons (not even needing oxygen on board), set up a base after landing and potentially leave behind skeletons to run it, and then return to earth by detonating himself and reviving at a phylactery in mission control, ready to hop into the next rocket.

>cyber demons
I am saddened by how Nips are brainbroken by literalism AND filtered by things being low-tier. A demon can't just be a voice or an element that is disconnected from the times in a deliberately anachronistic ways, no. It has to be some dokey ass cyber-mecha-bullshit that is in your face. And even if they did the more traditional "deal with the devil" kind of stuff, it would 100% be either some sexed up anime girl for deranged coomers or some sharp sexy daddy-o for the femcels.

You've got it backwards. You're thinking the medusa is the robot affecting humans. The medusa should instead be sending out info-filled light-beams that brick cybernetics by dumping more info into their visual receptors than they can process. Basically, the "eye" receives so much data that it commands all of the system's resources to process it and the unit shuts down until it can. Slip recursion into the eyebeam, and the receiving unit is bricked until someone else comes by to unfuck it.

>the thing about vampires and kids: they need a lot of blood to have them
The thing about corporations and resources: if they want it, they can get it. Hooking up a vampire mom to a constant transfusion system from your corporate blood bank is a high expense, but getting an eternally faithful superbeing is an extremely good return. Needs a "believer" to sign R&D checks, though. Those can get forced out by the $ chasing crew, shutting down the lab and dumping the process. Congratulations, your character is an ex-corpo vamp tossed out onto the street. Let's see what tough decisions you'll make to survive.

I want to call this urban fantasy, but urban fantasy dredges up nonsense like the Dresden Files books and the whole 'somehow the real world has just fucking ignored all the vampires and wizards and shit and i guess scientists are fucking morons and all the police are just trying to not think about all the people they find mysteriously missing all their blood' thing.

A world of fantasy and magic that has kept that magic and just happened to have gotten to the point of having smartphones and vending machines and modern sensibilities sounds comfy as fuck.

Simzart is peak whatever-the-fuck-kind-of-urban-fantasy I'm after. It gives the vibe that fantasy is just down the road. Like 'I paid the coven of witches around the corner in pizza and 7-up to chase the ghost out of my basement' sort of vibe. Where you could go onto youtube - and it'd be early, actually good youtube because you can buy curses and nightmares in this world - and look up tutorials with bad audio and a few hundred views on how to draw your own demon summoning circle.

Gremlins were only content to tinker with mechanics and clockwork, consider nanotechnology an abomination and live in the steampunk equivalent of Amish communities.

Machine Elves turned out to be real and not just a DMT hallicunation, they can be seen with scanners or special goggles but genuinely do not care about mundanes and do invisible janitorial work on invisible pollution 24/7.

There are a couple of fantasy settings out there where the greatest, most dangerous secret of magic is that literally anyone can do it. there is no innate gift or special bloodline to cast magic, its just knowledge and most people can manage their first spell with a few days of practice, a couple weeks top if they are bad at it.
Imagine a setting where some worldwide conspiracy has been keeping magic secret for centuries, but in the age of information it simply *can't* anymore. The secret leaks, and now everyone knows magic is real and the know-how to use it spreads too far and wise to contain. After a few years of total chaos, things settle back down to just being... normal. Life goes on like it did before, except now people know that control of the weather is constantly being fought over by different groups of weather wizards, that when you trip on the sidewalk its often because you stumbled over a little invisible goblin, and vampires are real but honestly are not as cool as fiction makes them out to be because they are too mindless to know that sunlight kills them so they usually don't last very long.

I know they're not fantasy but I thought stickmen in a futuristic setting might fuck up the thinking of the folks living in it. 2.5D creatures that are incredibly frail and yet have immense strength for someone their size, with the term "evolved stickman" being a bit more literal in their case and them being studied as a way to farm energy because scientists think "how can these things go on without eating or sleeping and carry huge weights"

Most forms of undead?

Vampires:It turns out that Bogdanov was right, and blood transfusions are the key to eternal youth; the 1920s Soviets merely lacked the technology to make it work. Now, you have a group of rich, immortal cunts equipped with specialized cybernetics that let them drain young people dry and use their blood to revitalize their own flesh.

Mummies:The ultra-rich of the past who opted to have their bodies cryonically preserved. The technology to bring them back to life is finally here; but due to the primitiveness of the preservation methods used, the resurrected are severely damaged, both mentally and physically.

Liches: Paranoid about death, wealthy and influential individuals have their minds continuously scanned and copied to portable, on-site servers; usually disguised as everyday objects or jewelry. If the subject dies, the most recent backup of their personality is downloaded into a pre-prepared body, effectively rendering them immortal, so long as their backup server remains intact.

He actually was, but not in the way he thought. We've found that diluting the blood of older people extends their life. Old people have a build-up of toxins our bodies aren't equipped to get rid of, so blood donations and saline drips actually extend life.

You can have this in Rifts. Very few supernatural beings can use cyberware, most have some sort of regenerative factor from "fast healing" to "regenerates thousands of MDC per round." Vampires are their own weirdness, they represent an eldritch Alien Intelligence trying to infect its way into reality, and are outright immune to anything not on their list of weaknesses regardless of how hard you hit them. Of course a few of their usual limits get amped up, like inability to cross running water turning into "moving water of any sort does massive damage so squirt guns are good anti-vamp weapons."
On the cyber side there are multiple sourcebooks with new implants and upgrades. If you don't have magic or psionics you probably want some chrome, almost every class has the option but some are more into it than others. City Rats, Headhunters and Partial 'Borgs could all fit into a Cyberpunk game, albiet with vastly stronger armor and weapons. Full Conversion 'Borgs range from Adam Smasher types, to the Russian combat chassis designated the Holocaust (tank tread legs, flamethrower and shoulder cannons) to Ghost in the Shell style Hidden Borgs and even centaur or dragon style chassis.
