Memes, in-jokes, tard stories, etc. from your campaign
Post some memes and in-jokes from your campaign. Context optional, but there are cookies for anyone with a story whether related or unrelated.

>Context: A character of mine was made Mayor of a city after saving the governor. While trying to get rid of both a cult and an evil corporation within the city, he purchased a mansion using the fantasy equivalent of a stolen credit card from the company. He rigged the mansion to explode, and waited until the corporate investigators arrived while he sipped wine from the safety of a tavern. The explosion became widespread news within the city, which my character blamed on the cult.

Nah, they're a part of shitbag faggot tryhard "I-I-I'm p-p-p-part of 4chan, right guys?" culture.

Hell, if you actually knew anything about 4chan, you'd know that those are all dead memes that were spammed by the saddest losers before being forgotten, and only resurrected by other trolls for the free annoyance that spamming dead memes provides. More importantly, spamming dead /v/ memes on other boards and imagining they're part of 4chan as a whole shows how little you know about this website.

>"Shut up, Yamada"
A thing that's sort of become the kneejerk response to reckless behavior by any PC, started from a Bleach game I play in where one guy plays a Shinigami named Yamada who was literally plucked out of soul society's ghetto and put through hellish training in a fucking hole by an old dude and who thinks madness is power. He keeps saying stupid shit, and the party keeps saying "shut up yamada" in response. Now, it's the go-to for any time anyone does anything that he would do or says anything he would say in or out of character.

>Masahiro the Misogynist
Same game as above, my character has a track record of getting pissed at people who just happen to be women. As such the running gag is that he hates women (untrue). This is even funnier because his sword spirit is a woman in cowboy gear (his shikai is a gun).

>The Dice Devil
Started in a bleach game I ran (different one from the above). One guy played an Arrancar and had abysmal luck. Like, we're talking shit rolls constantly (d6 pool for combat, 3d6+modifier for skills is how the system works). Dude couldn't hit, couldn't dodge, couldn't win at skills, so we started joking that the Dice Devil was on his shoulder, so anytime anyone's luck tanks for a session or two we blame the Dice Devil.

>Axel Did Nothing Wrong
From an older Digimon game I was in. The guy playing Yamada played an aggressively french man with two digimon (DDA 1.3, back when twin tamers were retarded and broken) and his character not only did a ton of stupid shit, but was never once punished for it. In fact, he was often VINDICATED for what he did, and as a result never really had any change to his character. He's been brought into a playtest for DDA 2e one guy is running. It has been hilarious.

Also one of the regulars constantly draws fun little doodles. Picrel from the last session of the Dragonball game we're both in. Yes, we did work for the Carrot Gang in a nightclub. Both characters are male

I also drew this of my character, quick thing, not my best work, mostly to de-stress after a proper commission I did that was rather exhausting and extensive. Decent money though so I won't complain. And no, it wasn't porn. I don't draw porn. I generally do TTRPG character art comms. And yeah I'm playing the saiyan in the party. Other characters are some sort of fish alien and a cyborg arcosian/freiza race.

>Saiyan who is ironically very intelligent and the team's mechanic
>Fish alien who is just tired of everything
>Cyborg who is incredibly absent-minded and misses the obvious

Fun party.

Our swashbuckler/wizard put his life savings in a sack and tied it to a rope suspended off the side of our ship, so that it would be hidden underwater while we traveled by sea. When we were forced to sail into a storm to escape pirate airships, our DM had him roll to see if his belongings were lost due to the intensity of the tides and our evasive maneuvering (like a 10% chance of failure) and of course he rolled poorly, the rope snapped and he lost everything. He was fuming, as his whole character motivation is to save up enough dowry to marry his sweetheart back home in fantasy Japan, and sent this to the group an hour or so after the session ended.

>DM: "You're at the tavern in Brelford, what do you wanna do now?"
>PC: "I ask if anyone knows about the dragon."
>DM: "Fewer people in this area know about what's happening, but the few that do give you the same information you already had."
>PC: "Okay. Can I get a room?"
>DM: "Yes. What do you want to do in the morning?"
>PC: "I travel east towards Garalel."
>DM: "Away from the dragon?"
>PC: "Yes."

No bullshit. I audio record our games and I cannot tell you how many 3-4 hour recordings I have that play out exactly like this. What's worse is it's not just him - usually the other players are either explicitly enabling this shit or not doing anything to stop it. Even when they insist on going to the dragon, they will not actually take action to get to it, but they'll say they want to.

We just started playing again after about a year and a half break and the FIRST THING he said when they landed in the starter town was "Okay guys, you know those 2 nearby cities with very obvious quests for us? We need to avoid them at all costs". I wish I joking.

As a follow-up, the worst part IMO was that he used to constantly bitch about being bored, not having fun, or not advancing in any way despite actively and deliberately ignoring every opportunity he had to do something, along with neglecting the potential to create his own opportunities. Anytime I pointed out what he was doing and how easily it could be fixed, he'd shrug and say something to the effect of "idk man my brain just turns off". The other players haven't been much better, but I give them more of a pass because they fully acknowledge their stupidity and don't try to make excuses. He's gotten better at owning up to his mistakes though.

A couple days ago he messaged the groupchat with a detailed plan of what he wanted to do next session, and it was actually a solid idea so at least he's finally learned something. Funnily enough, it involves going to one of the 2 quest cities he wanted to avoid last session and actually doing the quest that's available there.

In my group we have a meme of "in draconic... of course." so at creation I took draconic as a kobold, and I suggested my friend take it so that we can talk without the peasantry understand what we are saying.
Cut to a shopkeep clearly ripping us off. "Should we just kill him and take his stuff?" We both look to the DM. "In draconic... of course..." and since then it's been an in joke with our group that pops up in stories sometimes.

Oh, they have plenty. That was just one example - and the main point I wanted to make with it was that they often express "We wanna do this thing" but will then deliberately avoid that thing at all costs.

The map I mentioned in that story is a real thing we have. Every province they visit has one, with notable undiscovered locations marked by a "???" and discovered locations marked with a fitting name (even if their PCs die I leave the place marked and they can still go whenever they want). They have discovered a majority of the things available in the province with that dragon, but refrained from seriously engaging with most of them. There's an entire dungeon of kobolds they keep coming back to - only to leave after getting through 1 or 2 rooms with no traps. There's an old, wrecked-up castle infested with low-level demons they also keep returning to, but often panic partway through the fight leading them to make extreme strategic fumbles that get themselves killed. There WAS a hamlet, barely a neighbourhood, of yuan-ti that they infiltrated. However, all but one of them was rendered unconscious during the fighting. I don't remember how, but the one remaining got all his allies into one building, and only one yuan-ti pursued him into that building (though more trailed far behind). He locked the door and prepared to kill the yuan-ti as the others caught up and started banging on the door. From inside, the player declared that he would spare all the other yuan-ti if they fled and let him kill this one. The yuan-ti inside accepted his fate, and the other yuan-ti fled. This has had extreme consequences festering for the last several in-game months that they have avoided touching with a 10km pole, and it's probably going to blow up for them very soon.

They have more than enough to do. They just refuse to do it even when it relates to their character goals or backstories.

There's no way you can frame the player wanting to be a pouty bitch and refusing to engage with content as somehow a valid position to take lol. If you don't want to fight a dragon in a dungeon in a game called Dungeons and Dragons, why are you even here? If that player wants to play "Boring Retard Sits in the Corner and Beats Off All Day" so bad, they could just stay home. Would save on gas money too.

Well I know the answer is that people like that just want to hold the table hostage to feel some amount of control in their pathetic lives. But it's rude to say that part out loud.

Only if there's only one choice to make. He said he provided plenty of other options, so it's fine, but if a GM wants you to do something and you're not interested and they basically do nothing but route you towards their predetermined story, that's railroading.

Anonymous No.95867793 [Report]

NTA but I think railroading is fine as long as everyone knows what they're getting into. This is what Session 0 is for, so everyone can set and lay out their expectations.

If the DM wants to run a game where the PCs kill dragons, the PCs should go out and kill those dragons. If the PCs want an open sandbox game with many choices, they shouldn't play with a DM who wants them to just go kill dragons.

This kind of shit happened to me, too.
The women in the campaign always want to ask every NPC about the details of their lives like their relationship status and living conditions.
I get that some of this is just natural for a roleplaying game, but having 6 hours of not getting anything done and just gathering completely made up details while all the guys just wait for them to finally get bored of it is just unbearable.
When I looked into DnD I thought this was about killing dragons and making up fantasy stories together. Instead I get this soap opera crap that drags on like the worst of modern streaming slop.
I personally blame Netflix and their ilk for making people incapable of concieving any other type of story.

Is anything stopping them from simply telling them to cut the cut the shit and move on to some actual gaming? I'm assuming they're scared to hurt their feelings or one or more of the women are their girlfriends or something.

I know your pain though (especially as DM). Last session was our first time playing in over a year and a half and the only dwarf in the party asked the guard captain if he could join the guards' night watch, since they mostly employ non-humans with darkvision. Captain said there was a different captain for the night team, and he would have to talk to her instead. She would be out around sunset.

So what does he do? He goes to the brothel and sees a woman in a fancy dress - nothing like a prostitute. He talks to the brothel owner, who asks if he wants a whore for the night. He says no, and asks to know about the woman in the dress. Brothel owner tells him her name, says she isn't for sale, and asks if he wants a whore. PC says no and insists to know more about the woman in the dress - nothing is stopping him from approaching her himself. Brothel owner is confused and asks him to leave if he doesn't want to hire a prostitute, so the PC finally leaves - without talking to the woman.

Next? He goes to a tavern with one other PC. Engages in some conversation with the bartender who has a fondness for food experimenting and trying new things. The bartender says he's had a craving for turtle meat, and the PCs spend - I shit you not - 15 entire minutes debating whether they could go hunt a turtle to bring to him and where they would find a turtle. At no point were they offered any incentive or reward for this, nor was it implied in any way to lead to a grander quest.

Nighttime comes around - he can finally go speak to the night captain, right? Instead, he buys a room at the tavern, and the group decides they'll be fucking off a few cities south.

Good point. Hell, even if it wasn't a challenge they'd fuck it up. They once spent 3 sessions trying to kill 1 guy who they knew the EXACT location of and knew he only ever spent his time in one of two places - his house or the tavern. And by the end of those 3 sessions, they didn't even kill him but 2/3 of them were arrested for their attempts.
