What do you mean how? They are a mindless, characterless horde faction. The sole reason for their existance is to be beaten kill a number of random redshirts to establish how big and dangerous they are and then to be beaten by named characters of other factions.

>How the FUCK do you beat them?

Orks'll get um'.

I don't have a citation for this, so I don't know if I made it the fuck up or it's from the earlier versions of Warhammer that let you field plastic dinosaur toys: Orks counter Tyranids.
What specifically happens is Tyranids can't perfectly convert Ork biomass into Tyranid biomatter; there's supposedly a diminishing return with the Tyranids where the more Orkish biomass they consume - the more they're made out of Orkish biomass. To the point where they stop being Tyranids. Orks aren't just Orks, Orks have an entire symbiotic fungal biosphere attached to them and a mild hivemind that eventually bioaccumulates and completely astroturfs the Tyranid swarm and supplants their own psionic presence over it.
Granted, it's a war of attrition; the Tyranids can beat the Orks if they nip them in the bid as quickly as possible, but the general idea is any kind of protracted conflict with the Orks will gradually end in defeat for the Tyranids- and more Orks.

Tyranids lose all the time in individual battles, the issue with defeating Tyranids as a faction is regardless of the outcome they've almost assuredly totally defeated you in terms of attrition. You can throw them off your devastated world with intense effort, they'll recoup those losses in a few years, your world will never recover.

I find extremely funny that nids don't just consume all life but drink all the water and suck out all the atmosphere from planets. I mean, it makes sense they'd consume ALL matter they can actually absorb, but something about it is very goofy to me.

If anything, the Tyranids MASSIVELY restrict their calorie consumption by eating just planetary biospheres.
They should be cracking open planet crusts, mine asteroid belts, disassemble gas giants and star lift suns into black dwarfs after they are with all the biological bits.

Tyranids best Orks in the only major war between the two (Octarius) and there was nothing in there about the Tyranids not being able to convert Ork biomass. In fact, the tendril there was specifically mentioned as growing super huge from all the Ork biomass it was eating.

>I'm pretty sure you've been able to cook and eat orks just fine since like the second edition.

Anon you're quoting: this specifically only happens to the Tyranids due to their biology/hivemind/scheme. I'm well aware non-Ork creatures can live in an Ork biome like those boars they sometimes ride and the Digganobz.

I'll also add to my post: >>95836900
The Necrons can beat the Tyranids because they're not fleshy and they have the tech for it.
The Chaos Gods I'm pretty sure "will have to" beat the Tyranids in the same capacity a farmer wouldn't let their sheep get slaughtered by wolves.

One excuse is that the Tyranids aren't actually interested in becoming huge because they understand entropy, but instead only take what they need and simultaneously defeat rivals and acquire data by consuming life.

The Hivemind isn't necessarily functioning like a pragmatic hard sci-fi AI but it does understand these things and is deliberate, in theory.

They exist in a setting where the laws of physics don't exist so all you need are enough main characters fighting them and plot armor will take care of it.

The Tyranid are neither frightening nor interesting because they're so unbelievably illogically stupid as a concept. Such a species would rapidly starve to death and no amount of "biomass" recycling would let them defy the laws of entropy.

Holy Terra would have lost the Exelio battle, and it wouldn't have been close. There is just nothing 40k has thats an answer to a swarm of enemies covering an area that is larger than the total diameter of the solar system, made up of battleship-sized enemies that lay their eggs in stars, casually fly at nearly the speed of light, have attacks that overpenetrate moons and small planets to hit enemies on the other side of them and have FTL teleportation.
The only thing I can think in 40k that is even close was the bullshit archeotech they pulled out of their ass to set the entire damocles gulf on space-fire, which they can't afford to deploy anywhere near Sol because that would destroy Holy Terra as well. And I don't think that would even *work* against space monsters, because it just creates a big wall of burning plasma and, again, lay their eggs in stars.

No, there's a meme one retard likes to push that Imperial Fists beat them with razorwire because he ignores the entire rest of the paragraph saying they turned an entire planet into a fortress with gun emplacements, bunkers, trenches, minefields, etc. etc. and razorwire was just one of the things listed there among all the other shit you use to fortify a position for war.

Then the full lore bit reveals the only reason the Tyranids even lost that battle was because it was a distraction they only committed paltry forces to in order to keep the Fists distracted while they snuck around eating every other planet in the region that wasn't defended, because that's actually an intelligent way to deal with Marines.

No, they're the horror movie monster faction. They exist to scare the shit out of you and kill the protagonists off one by one. Tyranids are The Thing meets Alien meets Jaws meets the velociraptors from Jurassic Park meets Tremors. Usually they get beaten by the one battered survivor at the end after all of his/her friends are dead, only to reveal in the final shot or after the credits they weren't actually beaten. That whole theme is the entire thing they were based around.

Not if you eradicate their hive ships and deny them the biomass to regrow. And any Imperial vessel has the ability to do that, with no chance of recovery, no "the hive ship grew this special organism to heal itself," nothing. 'Nids can be removed from existence moderately easily.
Anonymous No.95856757 [Report] >>95857970

>And any Imperial vessel has the ability to do that,

Mostly they have a problem with getting close enough. You rarely get a clear shot on the hive ships because of the millions of bugs in the way, and the ships tend to get swarmed by those and bugs and torn open because they engage from too close a range. "Drive me closer, I want to hit them with my sword!" mentality does especially poorly against Tyranids.

The Imperium lacks a good space based line attack weapon, ala the wave motion gun or macross cannon, which would make short work of tyranid fleets by letting them pick off hive ships from a distance before they even get close to a planet and letting the rest of the nid swarm starve to death in deep space.

Every single Chaos vs Imperium only fan (AKA HH Consumers) dismisses the various alien species as superfluous because its not part of their big grand "brother vs brother" Soap Opera, despite the fact that 40k is a setting for people to play a tabletop game first and a narrative second.
And in being a tabletop game, having armies of various astedic styles and backgrounds helps both keep things fresh and appeal to more people, which the various alien races help in doing.

Any any Tyranid vessel has the ability to eradicate the Imperial ones too, except it takes the Imperium 10 years to build a new cruiser if they can even find the rare materials needed to make it and it takes the Tyranids about a week to grow new bioships out of the biomass harvested from literally any planet they eat.

Wow what an absolute fucking lorelet lmao. They barely lost Baal by the skin of their teeth and it wasn't the Chaos forces that mattered, all they did was show up on the moon and kill the feeder-beasts after that moon was already conquered and most of the warrior-forms were on the actual planet fighting the Blood Angels, And they wiped out like 30,000 Blood Angels and left less than 100 of them alive. They were defeated by a combination of the Hive Mind getting stunned by the giant Rift opening and sucking away the entire Hive Fleet in space, and Guilliman showing up with a gorillion Primaris as reinforcements - that's what did all the fighting. And all those Hive Ships that got sucked away didn't even die, they just got scattered through the Warp and started showing up all over the galaxy in splinters.

Also the fact that the Silent King specifically is trying to come up with a plan to beat the Nids shows that he, the oldest being in the entire galaxy, considers them the real threat.

The Tyranids are the most pathetic army in the entire game. Every single hivefleet that shows up is supposed to be exponentially more powerful than the last and all they do every single edition is eat a bunch of planets you have literally never heard of, crush a bunch of named characters who have never been mentioned before, and finally get defeated in the most embarrassing way possible.
It doesn't fucking matter how scary they are or how hard they're winning because they will never actually be allowed to win. Which from a practical standpoint, means they've lost to the Imperium whose entire goal is stagnation and the status quo.
Chaos was allowed to do more in one edition than the Tyranids have been allowed to do since they released.

Fantasy could have just changed the rules, updated models, etc. They chose to nuke it as a setting.
Moving the 40k plot forward 10000 years, completely refreshing the model line, and changing the rules is something they could happily do because they've gotten a thousand indications no matter what they do, people will buy it.

That's every planet everyone ever conquers in the lore, ever, not just a Tyranid thing. No one had heard of Vigilus before GW invented it. The point of the setting being as big as it is with over one million planets in the Imperium alone is so they can just keep coming up with new ones for bad guys to smash, you fucking retard.

>and finally get defeated in the most embarrassing way possible
All the embarrassing defeats only happened in shitty lore from like 5th-6th edition and most of it was retconned out later, the good lore from 2nd-4th and from 9th and 10th is actually kino and Tyranids lose occasionally but it's rarely just some lame bullshit now, it takes actual effort.

Meanwhile, in diebuster, a girl moves something hundreds of times Titan's size in seconds across solar distances. From Jupiter orbit to out past Pluto, moving it through hyperspace with her mind.
