Zur's biggest flaw is the UB stapled to him, making him uncastable in many early games. Yuna being in the colors of Mistmoors and Hauntwoods means you get to cast her.

Premodern

Reminder that premodern is actually the most balanced out of all existing formats.
There isn't any other format as balanced as this where so many decks can compete and win against the very best of the best.
Not only is it the most balanced but also the most diverse in terms of gameplay since you have decks that range from pure creature aggro like goblins, pure burn like sligh, full on control like landstill or even combo like tinker fling, reanimator, etc. all viable in top tier tournaments.
Premodern's only real downside is the price on some of the cards given that they're limited in existing numbers, but even still if you choose some of the more recent reprints on those that got one, the price on them goes down significantly.
Also, a format where you can legally play cards like Crusade and even gold-bordered cards tells you that JotC can't jew your ass on anything here.

That's available for ONE mana and its not playable. Borderline sometimes, but people stopped using it because nobody uses creatures big enough for it to matter.

This is the common only format, play it, you got a wide variety of decks across all colors and it's fairly cheap, you'll find many viable combo and control decks just in that list alone, there's some less played ones that are really good just slow, so they don't have an high meta share on mtgo, like mono black gardens or UB control or jeskai epehemerate as control decks, it's also a fairly competitive format with the next large event taking place in Italy with a 1200 player cap on july 6-7.
If you want to just try out the formats I'd recommend looking up on Xmage for a completely free platform where you can play anything you want.

If you're going to play commander you want the other thread. It plays very differently from 1v1 60 card formats and people here are generally hostile to it. I do recommend installing Arena to help learn the mechanics. Some commander groups are extremely casual kitchen table types and may not know the actual rules, so it's best to get a solid foundation before learning the wrong things.

Technically you can defend any meta as long as it's "diverse"; as long as there are multiple decks to play, then theoretically nothing is wrong. The problem is that you're basically forced to run a deck that can either compete with red's speed or be able to pin it 50% of the time, and most people would rather run affinity, frogs or some other goofy archetype that they find fun. Against combo, spot removal usually represents stopping multiple cards of investment and much more mana investment than the spot removal cost, which is why it's so devastating.
Aggro has no such issues because instead of spot removal trading up, the removal now trades down. The aggro decks in Standard are not like the aggro decks of old where if you just lived long enough they ran out of gas. Cards like Emberheart Challenger combined with easy ways to splash draw sources means they're not running out of resources in the same way aggro decks used to. Literally every card in aggro is a problem because they're all overtuned threats that need to be answered immediately, because any card surviving is game over and spot removal will often lose you tempo against a deck that suffocates you for losing tempo.

It's two and three cost exile at instant speed. There's only one worth running which is anoint with affliction. And that's slow. There's only one exile at sorcery speed which costs one mana cost. He already swung twice with either mice or whatever else. Sorcery speed sucks for that type of thing because it just kills your tempo too much and not only that, it's limited to mono-white which has been quite week in standard for the last 10 or so rotations.

Control is too slow. Aggro is too fast. The only viable control is either aggro or combo right now. You just can't play spellslinger like you should be able to because the aggro decks are too fast. You used to not have to expect decks that fast and consistent unless you get into legacy or modern. There are just too many threats in aggro and you will often not have enough to deal with them.

"I always have it" is equal parts low effort trolling and mental sickness.

It's important to account for threats in a format and some cards are simply not run because they're too easily countered, but there is a perfect card to fuck up any card in a deck.

The math you have any given card with a full playset in a 60 card format is less than 50% even if you're first to draw. You realistically expect to have to mull for it if you need it every time. This is assuming a card that magically has no opportunity cost and negligible mana cost.

This is currently the biggest problem in standard: Aggro is dominating because the necessary counters you need are strangling deck building: If half of your deck has to be answers to a single kind of deck in the format, it grinds down variation and expression to a perfectly flat mirror shine.

You don't always have it, and if you do have it, you had to go looking for it and stuff your deck with it. That's your whole deck now.

You spent 3 mana on turn 3 to have no impact on board until you untap, and then just to remove a SINGLE creature. Your opponent's creature is already tapped, and thus cannot block on the opponent's next attack. Until turn FIVE, your board state impact effectively reads as:

I assume Yuna will eventually become the center of beanstalk decks to come, Zur or not. You don't even need to animate noncreature enchantments for her to be good, especially when she can reanimate any enchantments at the end of each of your turns unless the opponent gets around Ward 2.

Been pretty fun exploring different Yuna options.
Straight 2 colour Selesnya lets you play a very good rampy and control-style play and seemed like the best option for Beanstalks (abusing Ride's End vs aggro).
Naya has Joshua and fomo to cycle cards, alongside the Red Overlord being able to actually deal damage and gain life on the turn it gets brought back which has been huge.
Bant gets Oblivious Bookworm and Blue Overlord to cycle, although the blue payoffs don't seem as great. Leviathan's kinda cute and I even tried Y'shtola for double endstep reanimates but it was just too slow.
Looking forward to seeing what the pros do with her (if they decide to keep testing the deck out).

Big two months for the game, here's hoping things get a little more diverse.

zur and yuna are both kind of win-more cards and zur does it better
you win the game by locking up the board and having overlords coming down
zur stops aggro from burning out the last bit if the board is locked, since it has lifesteal
all its accomplishing is essentially what domain was already doing with herd migration

But its all-important that Zur actually pops down with lifelink and pseudo haste. It means on the spot life swing against aggro, and slipping attackers against control. Yuna doesn't do any of that, she can come down on a board, recur a green overlord and then opponent untaps and kills your board, or burns you out, or swings in with a slickshot showoff or whatever.

There's a reason domain was running herd migration PLUS imodanes recruiter at some point. That was the nadir of sunfall meta. Now sunfall is too slow and herd migration is too slow and basic landbases aren't enough but that just makes the need for immediate board impact even more important.

There are a bunch of decks you can build that are standard-competitive and don't use many cards other than FF. Especially the birds deck, which also gets Healer's Hawk from Foundations.
I don't think this meta is going to be exactly spectacular, either. It's probably birds - equipment - Vivi - Omniscience feat. Yuna. There might be a funky Noctis artifact reanimator deck, I guess, since he just needs the noodles for a draw engine.

Still, this mardu deck is playing 3 different FF cards and is something different. I’ve also made it diamond with it (for whatever that’s worth). Finally, it bodies mice and cutter going first and even has chance of beating them going 2nd. So I’m overall happy with the set
