Well it’s still aggro and I wouldn’t call it objectively better than cutter or mice.

Still, this mardu deck is playing 3 different FF cards and is something different. I’ve also made it diamond with it (for whatever that’s worth). Finally, it bodies mice and cutter going first and even has chance of beating them going 2nd. So I’m overall happy with the set

I starter playing Arena the other day and was wondering if it’s supposed to be very tough in the beginning, because the game seems very much to be pay to win (through wild cards or whatever it’s called which are used to get what ever cards you want). I did a few ranked and standard games and despite making what I thought to be a good deck with what the game provides you it seems that all of my opponents had to have spend a ton of money getting the most optimal deck they can whereas I’m limited to starter decks and whatever cards I’ve gotten in a pack. Just for me to get one mythic card that I want (Knights of Round) requires me to spend $20. I get that it’s the name of the game when it comes to TCGs but am I expected to just grow my library through playing and unlocking coins then packs through daily challenges and the battle pass (can’t remember the actual name of it in the game)?

There's definitely cards that are straight up better than others, and some are at higher rarities. Arena is a bit different from paper, in that every rare is the same value as every other rare, whereas some shitty meme rare could be 25 cents while a strong one could be 25 dollars. Arena does give you the ability to actually get cards for free just through playing though, you can definitely do well as f2p especially if you're good at drafting.

Former/OotL Yugioh player here. I recently played the prerelease event with my friends and despite literally learning the basic rules and stuff a few days before, I find a combo of the art, the gameplay, and just overall vibe of MTG to have more "value" compared to whatever Konami is doing. I know that everything is inflated due to hype and people like myself getting into Magic for the first time, so I'm unsure if/what/where I should put real money down for a deck or something. It doesn't have to be Final Fantasy related, but would be nice. For what I've seen is people making decks but for Arena Bo1 when something like Standard seems appealing to me. What I would like to know is for you people who have had some experience with YGO if there's some deck out there similar to like a Hero Beat or even control-oriented Sky Striker deck. Ditch Emet. Replace him with Preacher. If you're not building around graveyard, there's no point. Your deck is too slow on that front to run him effectively. You need a lot more self mill to flip him quickly and you want to be able to get the cards in your graveyard needed to flip him on your opponent's end step.
Drop Garland to one at best, his morph is too slow. You're not guaranteed Vivi. Turn 7 flip if you're lucky most of the time.
Drop bob. He will lose you the game in that deck if you get Kekfa on top. Especially in this aggro format. If you want draw, there are better options.
Replace Fire magic with one of the 3 mana cost 3 damage to each creature instead like Brotherhood's end. Fire magic is not good.
Three steps is slow. Replace one with change the equation. And put the second into the side board.
Drop betrayal down to 1-2 in the sideboard. Replace with Go to the throat and anoint with affliction. You want to be able to target what you exile. Especially on arena where you will run into token spam decks, this just isn't as good in the main board.
You need more dig that will actually get you ahead rather than just have you discard a land if you're lucky in exchange for something else. Control is about having a big hand size. Your only options now are confidant which will kill you and Kekfa which is turn 5 if you're lucky.
Vivi is cool and all, but what the fuck are you going to do with him? Just make him big and attack? Put an outrageous robbery in the sideboard and an X spell in the main board than can win you the game. If you're using him just to hope you can transform Kekfa, then what a waste. Plus he's slow to get the counters on especially in your deck. Vivi is best used as a mimeoplasm combo piece.
Kuja is a slow gimmick. Drop him for a couple Sheoldreds. Preacher, Qarsi Revenant, and Sheoldred should be staples in EVERY control deck containing black.

If you're hauling for rares and mythics and hoping they'll carry you through, you're going to be waiting a long time for very little payoff. The uncommons are the workhorses of draft and in this set that's more true than anything.

Get your TNT instead of waiting for a nuke. If you see something to pivot into, go for it, but if this ain't physical you basically don't get shit out of busting over something shiny that you can't play. You're not even really hate-drafting since you'll be playing people in other pools, so get yours and make it work.

I can't speak for your games obviously, but I think it's harder to run out of things to do in this set due to the presence of Flashback and most decks having some number of Job Select equipment lying around. There's also Tiered spells which are common/uncommon that are very playable, and a fair number of mana sink abilities attached to creatures here and there. Aside from that, modern limited design means your opponents can't put as many terrible cards in their decks as they might have in the old days.

I feel like play/draw discrepency might be the worst it's ever been with this set. It's not even particularly fast, it's just the way job select, sagas, and a few cards line up.
If you both have pic related for example, the guy on the play edicts your 2 drop and gets to attack in and then you're absolutely fucked because your copy is now useless.
Prish's wanderings is another one, you just can't block on turn 3 on the draw against green because you lose on the spot to it.

I have a confession to make. I wanted to try and get a large collection of the FF cards, even knowing 100% wouldn't be possible. I just wanted as close to complete as possible with whatever mixture of normal, foil, extended, borderless, etc. of cards I got. I just realized in the past hour that mathematically, I probably could have saved at least $1,000 by meticulously and tediously buying cards I wanted individually instead of relying on the actual boosters, because the boosters gave a lot of shit that I can't make any money back with. I realize that I probably spent an average of several dollars on a card that sells for a few cents.

I come from Hearthstone and just started to play MTG Arena and I gotta say; ramp is insane in this game, I'm trying mono green with the f2p cards I got the past 2 wereks and you get so much mana so fast. I know mono green is apparently an unfavored deck in the meta but my observation was more to compare the two games relatively speraking. And so far girthy green deck is what I find the most fun.
Also I'm planning on playing Alchemy mostly, fatser rotation and digital only cards sound more fun.
