The unfortunate byproduct of rape by a Yokai, Onaga is Minagi's half-brother who received a transfer to Hogwarts thanks to his 'outstanding performance'. The truth is a lot crueller; the circumstances behind his birth were damaging to the family's reputation and rendered him utterly mad, forcing the parents to make an extreme choice. Their son never felt welcome beneath his numerous delusions and gladly accepted the chance who might somewhat understand him.

Onaga's raving madness is built around his belief— he's convinced that he's a character straight from the 'YuYu Hakusho' manga, son of the demon king, to be exact. He demands that others engage in his delusions by calling him "His Highness Goda the Demons", accept his challenges of combat, and worship him as the single most important man alive. His protagonist syndrome and overall lack of shame and fear earned him a spot among Gryffindors, and his classmates feared him. It is unknown if there is more to Onaga, and if he's actually capable of lucid thought, though there are times when he's able to behave himself, if not outright weep at how his wild blood poisoned his mind.

He's a fierce rival of Jian, a fellow madman who believes himself to be a cultivator. If you hadn't heard about Jian, it's alright... Onaga's madness far outstrips his, and steals whatever crumbs of attention he gets.

So outta 29 builds, who's really active? I know some people responded already to a similar question but going through the list it looks like a majority haven't shown up. The ones who didn't do anything out of their initial build post such as respond to prompts as far as I could see from a quick skim through the previous threads are Salamander, Ryan, Bahram, Silk, Gary, Nyquist, or Seer. The ones who responded to the previous rollcall were Toshiko, Teacher, Immortality Machine, Edward, Revenant, and Nightmare. Removing the completely inactive builds and the ones who are active, as well as consolidating the 6 builds from the one guy cause we know he's also alive, that leaves about 12 unaccounted for who may or may not be still in it.

I don't think Lushian is in The Guard proper, I see him more like a free agent that helps out while duing his own thing, classic adventurer style and more in line with how PMD guilds normally are. The Guard as it currently is seems way too structured for him. If a more classic guild shows up he may join that, otherwise he will be working freelance.

Now if Wyze restructures The Guard like he said he would then Lushian would be more inclined to join, and even help if allowed, he is surprisingly good at working on people at least. That style fits him better, and I can imagine the two getting along pretty well in general, due to the fact they both want to help people but also know that being a hero is not the same as the ideals people would normally think about, because the world doesn't work like that.

Lushian in his current state doesn't really miss anything, he is slightly annoyed at the loss of Palm Force but it wouldn't hit as hard without STAB anyway. Between his scrambled memory and his insincts he feels he should learn a Poison move but he can't find it in himself to do it despite techncally being able to.

Once he manages to form strng bonds with others and evolves, and regains a little bit more of his memories, he will be very upset at the fact he can't learn Heal Pulse like a normal Lucario would. Being able to keep his friends healty would be a very good way to make sure they don't die, now he has to dive even deeper into darkness and kill the opponents faster instead.

A stat system could work, issue was the point spread. A lot of the options just were not balanced compared to other stuff. Why would someone want to sink a significant points into something like combat training when you could buy some other options like RCT or other very valuable abilities? Not only that, Heavenly Restriction gave way too many points, a single basic level gave enough points to bump you 2 grades up, and the other version which took away all your points was boring because you couldn't make a build outside of it and would only have your starting path freebie.

Oh yeah Im aware, but I felt like it was an issue with the rest of the CYOA that made it not work. Its taking from the same point pool, which means that choosing a set of abilities is just as important as having a useful inherent technique. The other options being unbalanced bled over to the CT section because of needing a choice between a suped up technique or being able to actually open your domain as just one example. I know that you shouldn’t be able to have everything, but its pretty hard to try and drop what looks to be the strongest options to get the most mileage out of your points.

Unrelated to this conversation, but I do have to chime in that I think the PMD CYOA itself is poorly balanced, at least for MPs.

Even in the kindest setting, it's very hard to make anything exceptionally interesting without taking severe drawbacks or typecasting roles that harm the character. This might not be the case if your character could by default learn moves from their movesets that were learned later than level fucking 10 (at which almost no Pokémon, evolved or not, has anything remotely interesting to its name) or tutor/TM moves weren't so hilariously expensive, but that's just one of many flaws.

Say you want to make a Grimbright Charizard with the moves Flamethrower, Dragon Breath, Slash and Scary Face. A pretty average moveset for the species, almost leaning on the weaker side due to the questionable status move and weak Dragon move.
Let's assume that this Charizard is Natural, and you forego taking a chance to choose Charmander directly.

This build, with no other modifiers, would require you to spend 19 MP on the evolutions and species selection alone. For the moveset, you would need to spend another 4 MP minimum purely because none of these rather standard moves are in Charizard's moveset past level 10. This is especially unfortunate because *only one of these moves are learned after Charizard evolves,* that being Scary face, and most of them are actually learned much earlier by its pre-evolutions. So unless you spend almost 1.25x the amount of MP you're given from the start, you're going to have an extremely stunted Charizard that amounts to nothing more than a Charmander with an extra weakness.

Drawbacks won't help much, either. The highest-paying drawbacks hinder you very severely (can't use an ability whatsoever, add an extra type weakness, etc.) but only pay out 3 MP maximum. None of these "higher-paying" drawbacks can be taken more than once, either.

If you go through with this specific Charizard with this specific, very basic build, you will now skip out on almost every single thing you could make interesting about the actual character. You can't afford a Hidden ability, one single egg move, or even a venerable role in the world without taking even more drawbacks that would make said venerable status very questionable and the character's actual function a giant question mark.

Even if you try to compensate for this by taking the most overpowered drawback which isn't one-time use, Berry Allergy, you will at most be gaining 5 more MP total because apparently being allergic to six berries (every conceivable form of quick healing in this world) with a drawback that lends you 2 MP per berry equates to 5 MP total. Somehow.

I understand that the CYOA is likely geared towards progression, but even under that banner I find this absurd. MPs in particular are very unbalanced in the point department, with very high costs and almost no consistent ways of earning more without typecasting/making every joint into some kind of achilles heel.

PPs are better about this, generally having a very *very* wide range of items across all point totals making spending them at any point rather easy (and being more balanced with the drawbacks as well), but they're generally less important because instead of inherent character improvement, they mostly correlate to basic, extraneous *stuff* that could otherwise be backstory fodder in a less item-focused CYOA.

It's odd, I think there's a weird gap in MP spending where there isn't in PP spending. PP spending is mostly fine, to the point where no matter how I changed my amounts around I could always spend my PP just fine, whereas with MP I am near-constantly struggling for basic things like a different ability or a somewhat above-average skill.

Thinking on it further, that "no moves past level 10" thing might be the main cause for most of it. Seriously, if it was just "no moves past level 10, unless you're evolved in which case no moves past your evolution level" that would solve so many problems on its own.

No clue. Anyways, that's my complaints over with. The CYOA's hard to build an interesting character baseline with, but finely balanced for loot, which I dislike.

The reality is that a lot of Pokémon just don't have that much to work with, and you're much more likely to roll one of those than anything with a neat concept you can twist into a unique character. I can see a lot of people just deflating when they roll 6 shitmons in a row and can't make something interesting out of a Pidove or a Volbeat.

I know that's happened to me a lot when I've tried to play the CYOA. I understand the intention is to give these lesser-known Pokémon time to shine, but I think it's too imbalanced against using anything you like to work properly.

The only rule on point gain was the cap. It was originally supposed to be 5 total, of either MP or PP (for an indeterminate amount of time) but was raised to one or the other after realizing that 5 total was a bit too strict and might prompt another stillborn.

I don't see anything about general writefags for stuff like slice of life events, just the part about writing for Mysteries. Even if it weren't the case, it doesn't stop people who have more popular builds from progressing further then the rest.

There's not much that can be done to stem the popularity contest aspect of this without a cap, the most you can do to subvert it is be productive enough to outweigh that popularity factor and work your way up through your own effort. I mean yeah, thats why I'm bringing it up now. I wouldn't care about if my build is popular in other MP's, but when my actual progression is stunted from it thats when the issue arises. Its not about how some builds are more popular than others, its the fact that you are not just left out but also left behind. With the restriction to just Mystery stuff removed it'll be easier to keep up, though being able to be included in multiple writefags will still be the best option since even just one inclusion takes away from having to write another yourself.

I get what you're saying but I don't think it really applies here. Were it about other MP's sure, but its easier to fall into the category of being unpopular simply by the virtue of not being as easy to include. Someone who's a generalist might be easier to than a specialist to include because they can fit into more situations. Them being able to fit into more situations lets others include them in different scenarios. Its not that the other build is shittier that its not included more often.

For some more specific examples, it might be tougher for Townmon to get as many mentions due to how they stick back. How many people for example would want to write about Anne if their character's didn't give much of a care about relics or learning about the world before? While on the other hand, someone like a Headmon would be interacted with much more by people due to their high position and responsibilities from their role. A Guildmaster is similar in that its likely they'd come up with the different guild members under their command. It's not much to due with the characters themselves but how their positions are in the poke society. How many writings of the adventure would there be compared to the downtime in between them to catch up? MHBW had one that was 3 parts, and I think its likely that some adventures into the different areas could be multiple parts due to the fact we aren't expected to completely conquer it right then and there.

Didn't know that, but good to know. Even so, I meant in more in that we aren't really expected to skinny dip into the danger zones and jump back after a short excursion unless we've got Escape Orbs to burn which maybe we do. and its very likely that writefags about exploring what they offer will be over the course of multiple writefags. Could be someone doing it themselves or doing it chain style, but either way I'm confident that on average adventures will take place more often which will pump up Explorer numbers over people like the Townmon.

Beyond any eventual purchase of Orb Supply(Escape Orb) they are relatively common in the world of PMD. Orbs spawn relatively often, not as often as berries or apples but commonly enough, and among them the Escape Orb is the most common I am pretty sure, it's also definitely the cheapest one to buy at the market. Of course it changes from one dungeon to the next and we are free to determine if our world is any different, but the general assumption if we go by PMD setting is that they are not that rare.

I mean, isn't that kinda expected? Pokemon as a species thrive in danger, so it's normal that those with the more dangerous jobs grow faster. It may not be super balanced but it makes some sort of sense. Maybe Townmons should have a different way to get just PP? Because that would be the main thing they want unless they plan to explore on the side.

The limit of 5 point gain each makes it pretty difficult to evolve post character creation, doesn't it? You need to be a shitmon or save points so that you can get enough to evolve later.

The idea is that you get a neverending supply, and some seeds are broken. Even with Reviver seed costing 5 MP on top, you have a ton of seed possible that don't cost more but are potentially even more broken. Pure Seed? Never have to explore a dungeon again. Vile Seed?
