Putting together Mechanicum stuff, finally. Although it's more for my knights who are titan vassals, so all of my robots of every size have a similar paint scheme.

Doing castellax now, they're really cool. No idea what will be good on them, but I'm thinking darkfires just because they look sick.

this came out of my proonter today all on one plate just to feel out such a tall model's being made along with a swathe of other stuff (was sat on its butt in orientation)
really loading up a plate seems to induce pressure aberrations of some form or another with so much of the surface area being used at once but the sheer flat panes of this really let me observe it and maybe read into the nuances a little, nothing that can't be scraped or sanded down at the end of the day, was a learning experience and i'd have been pleased to have gotten a terrain piece out of it
just surreal
quite partial to the mars rendition of the predator and this will be an interesting foil to a first party deimos

Same squad of proximan rifleman. I could have probably gotten them knocked out and done by now but I get so demotivated with painting with how long it takes; just those 3 rifleman's gunmetal took about an hour to do, and I still haven't even gotten to the actually important bronze part yet.

Also got distracted and started composing an objective marker, not sure if the dead marine should be a sallie or if it should be one of the other shattered legions that we're trying to save.

It would be one thing if saturnine was being portrayed as this amazing gamechanger that decided conflicts, but in reality it's just the artillery terminator armor that is too impractical to use in a lot of scenarios, which is why cataphractii was generally seen as the most valued choice of variant

Saturnine termies and especially praetors will be boring because they have nothing but bespoke weapon options.

No that's Tartaros, Cataphractii is just the workhorse most Legions were stuck with until the end of the Great crusade. Tartaros is literally the endpoint of marine armor as the Emperor envisioned

Legion paint schemes varied by chapter or even company
Guys like the Fists have canonical reasons to have black on their more elite soldiers to represent templar initiated dudes, others are just part of that company's heraldry

Ultramarines have a lot more white and gold in their 30k schemes than in 40k, but they also get black for destroyers and such

Generally, if it represents anything, it's denoting some smaller sub-group within a chapter. Like White Scars having their kamikazi redemption seeking guys painted black.

I usually do legs, torso, backpack, head together, arms and shoulders separate, but it depends on the model and pose a lot.
The terminators I'm finishing up I did legs, torso, under shoulders. Each arm/weapon. Heads. Shoulders.

Depends. I'd paint marines and tanks in full assembly unless they had very different coloured shoulder pads, or if a tank had sponsons that would be hard to reach or a turret that would be a different colour. I personally never really bothered with sub assemblies unless it was something where there was a real difference in basecoat colour requirements.

I usually glue everything unless that makes painting more difficult later. So while a simple tactical dude can be completely assembled, some guy or squad with cape on the back and shield and stuff in front of the body screams to be painted separately, like there is no way to paint the inner side of the cape and parts of the dude's body properly (at least in one basic layer)

I think about making a Sagitarum Guard Custodes army a lot, mainly because of the Horus vs. The Emperor artwork, but their rules and options in 2.0 are very lazy, not to mention being heavy support for some reason. Maybe the new 3.0 force org chart will help, or maybe they'll get squatted who knows.

come on, the video about alternative starter boxes was good. He put some starter sets together so that 2 boxes either result in a RoW army or you mix 2 different boxes to get a more general army.

BaC was good model-wise but bad as a box (selling it as an independent game with a special board and dice - like the people at GW were drunk and clueless what people want), BoP had legion specific chars and units which made it worthless for many players, the last one was good if you like beakies and the HH3 one is crap again (fucking Saturnine and the gun, thefuq).

Just because you don't like them doesn't mean everybody else doesn't like them. There are plenty of people who want those, so even if you buy the HH3 starter box but not want the turret or saturnine terminators it will be much easier to sell off to somebody, unlike a spartan or contemptor which everybody already had plenty of.

AOD had Mk VI marines, which weren't widely used and don't fit every legion aesthetically. The HH3 box having the basic infantry in Mk II, one of the most widely used patters of power armour, is a huge improvement.

I think the stats for the axe are fine, I just dont like it being reaping blow. To me that sort of axe is an executioners weapon, it should have had some sort of critical blow functionality (representing beheading) but be less normally damaging than the hammer.
The current stats are more something I would expect from a greatsword.

But anyways, most primarch weapons arent very high on the S modifier (or even particularly good). Going by 2.0 most of them would be upgraded if they picked up a regular thunder hammer. Its the primarchs themselves who are super scary.

Assuming points stay roughly the same its something like 10 veterans vs 3 saturnine terminators (theyre just under 3:1 in terms of points cost).
The veterans go first with 30 attacks, hitting on 3s for 20 hits, wounding on 5s for 7~ wounds, so 3~ wounds dead or a dead saturnine. The terminators then swing back with 4 attacks hitting on 5s, which means they kill around 1 veteran.

Saturnine terminators are bad at close combat, when something that can fight gets there they will not do well. Their power is in their ability to weather ranged firepower (especially small arms) and in their potentially powerful ranged weapons.

200-260 seems fine when shooting dreads or elite 2+ 2w units from disintegrators or blasting 1w MeQ from afar with...blasts. That way they can at least bring their points back. They need to get +BS though.

The issue there is that you take a lot of self damage from the D guns, and theyre 80ppm each with that loadout. Like small rifleman dreads. Also m4 with a 24" range gun (and they cant move and fire both)
