Plain dice if I trust the maker not to have bubbles, transparent if I don't. High contrast in both cases.

Speckled look like shit, might as well go all the way and use novelty engraved ones.

Clear dice. Don't really give a shit about color, so long as they are clear. You cannot hide defects and bubbles that will result in weighted rolls if the dice are clear.

>You have never even rolled 90% of them.
I'm currently arguing with my GM to let me roll d6s(we're playing online) but they ain't budging
I'm also moderately using d10s as my wfrp GM allows me due to my rolls on forge being 90+ most of the time

I have a couple of full set of "D&D" dice, plus one D20 I found in 2004 in the middle of a National boyscout camp.
But my real weakness is D6s.

I play warhammer and I horde D6 like crazy. I have a wide assortment of single random dies found on the ground of gaming stores, from boardgames found on the side of the road, picked up at the lost and found at the subway station.

Just a couple of weeks ago I bought 4 set of 10 dies from dollartree. 20 green die and 20 blue die (1.25 cad per 10 is still okish), this morning on my way to work I saw a damaged copy of chutes and ladders peeking out of a recycling bin, and I dug it out to take the die.

While playing I used to just fish random die out of my box and use whatever, but I've slowly started setting aside them for units (these 10 green ones are for quarrelers; these 5 white ones are my general, this large black one is for channeling with my runesmith etc...)

>How many dice do you have
I've got a few different bags so let's see
>Main bag is a polyhedral set, those UB LotR D6s, 5 36 cubes, and 3 12 cubes. Two of the 36 cubes are speckled green with white pips, one is a teal swirl with white pips, one is a silver and teal swirl with white pips, and one is solid blue with white pips. One of the 12 cubes is black with white pips and the other two are blue with white pips, of which one is missing a die. If I find one that matches I'll use it
>Other bag is a large amount of MtG spin down d20s. And a lot of white d6s with black pips, as well as a white scatter die with black inlay.
I also have a couple loose sets, a mini translucent red polyhedral and a black polyhedral. Also a Baron of Dice Necromunda set (for Delaque, even though I play Cawdor. Those dice roll like shit too), and one of those gimmick GW Sororitas sets.
I've rolled every die I own except the loose polyhedral sets. Although my main polyhedral set is an orange solid die set with teal pips in one of those chessex test tubes and I might not have rolled all of those except the D6s. I use the percentile dice to track VP though. Also I have a ton of Legion and X-Wing dice if those count.
I actually probably need more dice; I like rolling the green speckled dice for Boyz mobs and that's only 72 dice, a full squad is 76 choppa attacks on the Waaagh turn.

16mm >>> 12mm

If you choose to use 12mm dice you are frail and feckless. 18mm are ok to mix with 16's, but cannot constitute your entire dice supply.

Pips or numbers are both fine, but if you have a symbol instead of a 6 or a 1 you are an infantile retard.

speckled are ok when they're dark colors with white pips. Like the dark blue and dark green ones in your pic.
Although I like marble-like pattern a bit more. Just plain black with white or color numbers are fine too.
I don't like transparent dice and I don't like low contrast ones.
Some fag I've played with has semi transparent white dice with white numbers and it's the stupidest thing, shit's almost unreadable.

Surely 40K 8th-->10th is the only system that would ever ask a player to roll that many dice. And '80' seems like an exaggeration of the (legitimately dumb) numbers of dice it does actually ask you to roll. But those are bad game systems that should be avoided.

Multiple handfuls of 20 get the job done.

Even if you're playing a game that DOES want 80 rolls in a batch, I think only a crazy, broken person would actually buy 80 individual dice to perform that once or twice per game task, instead of 20 or 40...

iirc in 3rd through 5th they could have up to 4 attacks each.

2 attacks on the profile
+1 attack if they have a pistol + ccw (instead of sluggas)
+1 attack if they charged

But charge distance was 6" and engagement rules would have almost always prevented all 30 from fighting at once. Also, their below-average Initiative of 2 would usually mean they're taking casualties before swinging.

The nation's capital.

In spite of the problems with it, 8th is probably the edition I have the fondest memories of. Probably because that's when I got my dream army (Skaven) up and running. I enjoyed my time with WE and VC in late 6th and 7th, but I always wanted to do the rats, and it was only the nightmare of having to buy hundreds of bad old models that kept me off of them until they were revamp-complete in 8th.

The only other use I can imagine is if you're facing someone who you hate, you can roll it like a bowling pin using his miniatures as pins, and try to break them.
Jokes aside them, no I have no idea why you'd ever use one that big in game.

I have actually met Val in 2023 when he organized a 8th edition tournament at the MWG bunker. Val seems like a chill guy and he's been a very generous person.
But as a player I think he's too focus on meta and the "technically legal" moves in the rulebook.

I don't follow his channel/podcast but from what I recall him and Rob are very much into tournament play while I'm the opposite and always field lists based off visuals first, (my dudes') fluff second, and what I had for breakfast that morning third

No I played at their bunker in Welland for the event but didn't play with them directly. I spoke with a couple of them for 10-15 minutes. They asked me questions about the tournament and wanted to know how the wargaming scene is/was back home compared to Canada.

Didn't know they were Mormons; not that I care. But it makes sense given how the main guy has like 5 or 7 kids.

But then again, I'm the first of 4 boys and we're not Mormons. So who the fuck knows.

Well in modern editions that's basically the same amount of attacks they have. 8th was the only exception because they had the psychic +1, choppa+1, and mob strength+1 for a potential of 5 attacks per model. Also in 3E they doubled their initiative on the charge to hit marines simultaneously. But they were only S3 back then, bummer.
What were engagement rules? Closest I've played to midhammer was HH2 and it's VERY permissive with engagement range.

Thinking on getting casino dice.
The D6 dice I use for GURPS are too good, they tend to roll low.

I would have to study the rulebook to accurately convey any nuances, which I'm not gonna do.

But the rough version is each model charges 6". They have to get in B2B with an enemy if they can. If they cannot, they must stay in 2" coherency with a friendly model in B2B. Models in B2B and models within 2" of models in B2B get to attack.

There's no bonus consolidation type move before combat occurs (which I think 10th has, and is the main factor for piling up tons of attacks?).

You get your 6" move and 6" charge and that's it until the combat has been resolved. That limitation on distance charged was the main limiter of how many attacks can get into position.

All dice are pretty much the same except casino and gamescience dice. Just pseudo random polyhydrals that will work fine for games but I wouldn't use if real money is on the line.

Oh then engagement is the same in HH2, but the charge distance is longer. Honeycombing 25s though, I imagine with a straight on charge you can get three rows of attackers within that 2" coherency. In 10e engagement distance is first rank second rank; models in base contact with the enemy and models in base contact with a model in the unit that is in base contact with the enemy.

There are different ways to add the colors to the numbers. Paint pens, crayons, permanent markers. See it as a bit of a project to colour in the numbers and file it properly.

yeah, looking forward to it.

I got some older, sharp uninked d8s

I opted to get the opaque lime green as I think black ink/paint will show up better on them than the grey or taupe gem colorways they have, but I took a long time to make that decision lel

>>95911697
my understanding is no, you want to soak them in warm soapy water, dry them thoroughly and then work paint or ink or colored wax into the impressions

some things ive read said you can use diluted acrylic paint to fill them in as well. i'm no mini painter but i do make art for a living so that's a possible option too

these are utter shit, with the only possible exception being if you're a very theatrical GM with a cool looking tower using it for important rolls.
Thinking of getting a tray or maybe a dice cup, I've used a shared tray and liked it.

I think a couple of hundred d6s (I host fairly large multiplayer Battletech games and handing everyone movement dice for each mech and different coloured d6s for each weapon really speeds things up) and I think three full sets of standard dice, plus a couple of spare d10s and a bunch of 20 sided spindowns from when I still played Magic.

not really, I have lots of other random laser cut shit
the only annoyance early on was the strong burnt smell, but that fades away over time with enough ventilation.

They are What a Tanker! dice with different symbols, but 1k rolls gave me 20% chance on the "pick a result" side while the others are around 16%.
I think that will work just fine considering how the game is.
