Coming back and working my way through silver draft. Never was much better than high gold, but limited is fun so far. I am up a full draft's worth of gems, and mastery pass is going along smoothly. Ardyn saved me in one game by getting me 5 life than promptly getting hit by Auracite. Unsurprisingly Kuja did well, and suiting up an Ahriman/Reno with 2 dark knight greatswords really did punish a lack of spot removal.

I wasn't expecting this to be a 7-0 deck but it played really well, it may have been better if I had not messed with red but P1P1 Garland baited me. In any case it feels kind of replicable, Cornered by Black Mages may be the hard one to find, but I can see more aggressive versions or more equipment based.

It's in Foundations, so going 3 has the minimal upside that you may get the 4th one in those weekly events otherwise you get gems. If you have some kind of deck in mind don't let me stop you.

Personally, if I was starting, I would make any deck that can get you to platinum without too much effort, which likely means monored because you don't have to buy lands and at the end of each month you get shards and I think that's pretty efficient, once you have like 40 or so maybe make your own decks.

Constructed Events match you against your unfavorable matchups/mess with your hands more likely if you enter with gems rather than with coins.
Maybe because it's easier to go infinite due to 5+ wins already 100% refunding your entry fee unlike 7 wins to get back your coins in a 1:5 gem ratio if you ever want to spend them for anything but event entry.

I tracked that shit and never went below 3-3 while entering with coins over a span of 30 events with 19 7-X runs. Then I played 10 events I entered with gems 5 out of 10 ended below 2-3 and only 2 7-X runs. Even 10 minutes apart from each other where supposedly the same people should be online 1-3 with gems 7-1 with coins right after.

Someone having the same bias?

There's cleary a 2nd hell queue you get shafted into when entering with gems. Instant 0-3 by three different people all casting Sheltered by Ghosts by turn 2.
Back in coins queue, 7-1 half of the opponents played tapped crime/gain lands on rogue bullshit donating me wins.

At those rates you're probably getting more out of constructed, QD has relatively low rewards since it's the least risky of the draft formats so you really want to be crushing runs. I guess if you're taking 6+ rares while still going 4-3 it'd be fine, but otherwise you'd need to improve your drafting skills to make it more worthwhile.

Finally done with work shit, fixed my internet issues, and got a crazy 3-0 run to top it off, we're fucking back. Took 7 rares/mythics and half were even playable. I didn't have much sac going on despite being in the colors meant for it, I had mostly treasures and equipment. The treasures subtheme worked really nicely, never got to flip the sidequest but that was because I was winning too quickly. The equipment subtheme actually impressed me too, I had a game with both black mage rods out and did a healthy amount of burn from just dropping more job select creatures every turn. Slash of light was great too, each equipment counting as two damage for it meant I never got outscaled. And of course cloud just tutors for any of them, it was usually ninja blades or lion heart.

Side note, interesting to be drafting (relatively) late into the set, usually by this point I'm done with everything. Not sure if everyone having access to more data will help or hurt me overall, but looking at the numbers it seems only RG is doing pretty poorly, everyone else looks fairly even.

It'll definitely be slower, but you're bleeding out gems with draft. You're not going to be finishing sets with QD at those rates. If you've got the spare gems to blow, or are just looking to improve your drafting skill, then sure. Draft is very good at getting cards, but you gotta be in a comfortable position first and fund your runs to account for variance and generally harder games.

Another heavy raredraft, though a 2-1 this time. Weirdly, two of my opponents were also on some flavor of grixis. This one was fairly grindy, a lot of card advantage and cheap blockers. Ardyn got removed the turn after he dropped almost every time, and it didn't matter at all because he's just that busted. Ultros was actually way better than expected, especially with instant speed spells to really stall attackers. Circle of power is apparently quite good by the numbers, but I'm just not seeing it. Maybe in a deck that has better wizards it'd feel better, but here it wasn't anything amazing. The treasure support was pretty solid here once again, dire rat is great at being two things to sac, or just fixing colors. Looking back, I think I actually had enough fodder to justify running phantom train, but I didn't try it out. Shinra reinforcements is just a solid creature that helps stabilize against aggro and also fill your graveyard with flashback spells and shit. I feel like most of the black self mill creatures have been pretty mediocre lately, so it's nice to have a good one.

I feel like no matter how well I know drafting and the current meta and no matter how well i can get a stacked deck I just lose 3 times to the most bullshit garbage. Opponent plays perfectly on curve and drops a mythic on turn 2 or 3 while im topdecking lands or other inconceivable shit like holding my removal for their mythic only for them to drop another bomb right after. It's all just bs, swear draft streamers get rigged clients in their favor because there is no way they can just go 6-3 or 7-0 5 times in a row while drafting relatively the same decks as me and making the same plays I would have made. 2-1 on URg this time, got got by a better UR tempo deck. Planisphere into tutorial is nasty, the token immediately becomes a 4/4 and you're not even down cards. I remember thinking blazing bomb and sahagin were weak in an earlier run, but they pulled their weight here. The extra buffs from tutorial, the equipment, and better support overall really helped. Vivi fell into that category too, I don't think he (she?) is actually that strong in draft, but with the right enablers it's pretty nice. Sazh on the other hand is just degenerate, immediate must kill and even without any birds to grab, he's just a massive threat with only a single swing. Tutorial felt quite good in this list, the extra counter makes it feel quite a bit stronger than divination. Slap it on a flier or any of your creatures that highly benefit from extra power, or even just to sneak in an extra hit. I probably should've had more 2 drops to better use it. Also another 7 rares/mythics picked up here, a nice haul.

I am glad I didnt play Ultima since I was always beatdown and the scorpions would always stop any kind of early aggression. Garuda never removed anything but the evasion was great, so was Tidus in this deck (there is a slight combo here with Garuda). Any game I could cast Arsenal or Lunar Whale was basically a win if I could untap.

Valkyrie felt alright, basically a 4 or 5 mana flier which is good. Magitek armor I never casted, Scorpion is messed up and Zack plus Cure were clutch.

Somehow pulled off the 3-0 with this WB list. Was a fun run, I actually got the odin win one game after baiting my opponent into wasting a turn equipping thief's tools to draw a "free" card. Also had a game with both white mage staffs and minwu, probably the only time that shit is actually decent. Then another where my opponent clearly didn't know what phantom train did and just failed to block lethal. Final days is a bit awkward with a low creature count since so many of my "creatures" were actually equipment or vehicles or sorceries, but it's still a decent, if slow, card. Greatsword was actually instrumental in winning multiple games, my opponents seemed very threatened by it. Basically a repeatable cost of 3 life and a token to edict a creature, which was nice. Treachery was top tier removal, with no shortage of things to sac and provided huge tempo swings. Slash of light was similar, though this time I did actually have a few times where it couldn't remove what I needed it to. I keep seeing delivery moogle getting passed late, it's mind boggling how good it is even without anything crazy to tutor. I was really considering running Ishgard here with all the artifacts and sac, but decided against it, feels too janky. Also yet another run where I grabbed a million rares, seems people are being real tryhard today.

Just played a game where my mythic opponent played turn 3 fishing sidequest, turn 4 fishing sidequest, and then didn't flip them until the penultimate turn of the game.

Starting back up on the grind with some pretty good runs today. Was a bit worried about people getting more experience, but it doesn't seem to be an issue yet. Notably didn't draft any decks primarily green in any of the four today, but I don't think that's an indictment of it, just variance. I'm a bit higher on summons than I was before, though it's mostly just the ones with card advantage. Otherwise they're kinda shit, I think. The job select equipment were quite impactful in all my games, I think I undervalued even some of the commons. The mana sink is nice, and entering as a creature means you're not taking a tempo loss. The kicker spells are good for the removal, much worse for everything else, as expected. Apparently UR is leading the pack in win rate, but not by much, and I think that's about right. Everything seems decently playable, I wouldn't force or avoid any colors.

I would hope so for 8 mana, but the tempo loss of having him removed usually ends the game on the spot. In my experience playing with/against him it's rarely correct to actually flip him, and when it is it's because you're already winning that game.
The body, the loot, and threat of activation are amazing, as a 3 drop. He just doesn't really add much raw power to a deck the way something like a Tellah does.

Wish I had a few more flashback or graveyard synergy cards, this list was on the weaker side imo. The artifact subtheme was alright, golbez is shit but I needed bodies, never got to trigger his second ability. I probably should've ran nouliths over forayer, not like either is good anyway. I was also considering the colorless artifacts, lion heart is alright and ring of the lucii would've been ramp up to my big boys or just a shitty icy manipulator.

Clean 3-0 on UW. Decided against running shantotto despite grabbing two dual lands, given that I had multiple key cards with double pips. I think it was the right call, there were some close cases where I almost got fucked over by lands. Fliers once again won the day, the gaelicat scourge is real. Vendor actually came in real handy a few games, saving on a bunch of mana transferring equipment as fliers got killed. I think one or two more equipment would've made it more reliable though. Never got to cast edgar or leviathan, venat and valor only once each. Plain old common fliers beatdown. Tutorial is still top tier, a divination that bolsters your board is way more impactful than I expected. Didn't even have many 2 drops to curve into it this run. I quite like esper colors this set, just noticed my last few runs have almost all been in there. Red is feeling weak outside of specific cards, green just hasn't been open.

Yes, if your opponent plays one. Which means again, you've gone even at best. Your opponents' cards also probably synergize better with their deck than with yours.

Which means you've already played one and it didn't get die and you've been effectively down a card, you're likely already ahead. That isn't even taking into account the possibility of getting blown out by removal. The potential upside of a 4 mana flan is balanced out by the potential downside of having to copy a shittier creature because that's your only play for the turn. It's not a horrible card, but it's definitely worse than something like ninja blade.

4x rot priest
4x ziatora's justice
4x etali's favor
4x not-bloodbraid
rest 5+ mana spells (this town, removal/counter dragons, virtues) with alt means to cast them, including virtue of strength to recur rot priests
discover chains end in putting another rot priest into play and can rack up counters with etali's favor + ziatora
can just use ziatora to blank any removal spell on a rot priest, even a sweeper or edict

there is absolutely no matchmaking algorithm in bo3, so you can get paired vs people who no idea what they're doing (you're pretty guaranteed to run into one of them per run for a free win).
also the EV for bo3 has been terrible for years now, so it's easier to farm bo1 for gems despite mmr being a factor.

you guys are real ones for playing it, I can't stand winning 66% of my matches and still losing 500 gems per draft.
bo3 used to be the best way to farm gems but they changed and nerfed it. at 3000 gems for a 3-0 it was kind of nice.

Premier Draft tries to.
All you need to focus on in Premier Draft is avoiding the 0-3/1-3/2-3 and you're essentially going infinite. Your chart has you bombing out like that 30% of the time but it should be less: your winrate will be higher vs other decks that start out 1-2 or whatever.
(although the real trick is to never draft non-functioning decks)
Meanwhile going 2-1 in Traditional is easy but only 3-0's are profitable and they often feel beyond your control.

came back just for ff drafting and cleaned up the last of my gems. yuna seems like reanimator on crack so i gave it a try. ive been out of standard for about 4 sets but it looks like it got even worse since i left.
