What exactly is his endgame with working with the chaos legions?
>>95895275A rich merchant lived on the outskirts of Baghdad. One day, one of his servants was in town buying supplies at the market, and he saw Death beckon to him. Terrified, he fled back to his master's house and begged for the use of his horse. "Surely if I flee to Samarra, Death will not find me!" So the merchant gave him his horse and bade him godspeed. He then went to the market, searching for answers. He soon found Death and asked him why he had beckoned at his servant. Death replied, "I am sorry. I did not mean to frighten him so. I was not beckoning at him, I was merely surprised to see him here this morning. You see, I have an appointment with him this afternoon in Samarra."

>>95895389It would be cool if battleshock caused psykers to gain deadly demise
>>95895345I'll give them the flammenwerfers
>>95895403I said it last night but will also say it now:
An ideal scenario would be that battleshock/morale/whatever the fuck you want to call it affected each army differently, because every faction has their own faults that they would have to deal with through leadership or whatnot. It's never going to happen, but it is making me want to make a homebrew morale system that gives each army their own "fail" effect on leadership rolls.
Battleshock is a step forward, representing things like a breakdown in communication from command to field troops (No stratagems) instead of just the entire squad collectively shitting their pants, but I personally feel there needs to be more.
>>95895415I'm thinking of eventually getting around to making a Steel Legion force, what weapons and army composition fits their fluff the most?
>>95895430It's a versatile enough regiment that you can include almost anything in it - the 4th edition codex gave them abhuman access and said they preferred heavy bolters and grenade launchers, but their art and fiction has them with all kinds of stuff.
The biggest thing is they're a mechanized regiment, and my rule has always been that everything has to be mounted in some fashion to count as truly Steel Legion. Flavorwise 4-6 squads in transports backed up by other vehicles or fast units like sentinels is their jam.
Metawise the plasmagun has always been the best option for them. The regiment rules have pretty much always given some kind of buff to dismounted infantry that benefits the plasma more than anything else they could hop out with.
>>95895448Cheers Steel Legion bro.

So uhโฆโฆhow does xenos space travel work, generally? Okay, Eldar have the Webway which is fine because itโs linked to their special pre-history and itโs available to anyone who can find a gate, etc. Necrons have whatever ancient technological wonder from the War in Heaven, fine. And soโฆhow does ANYONE else maintain a large-scale empire / star nation without going through the Warp? How did humanity in the Dark Age of Technology do this? How can the Tau reach anything but the tiniest fraction of neighboring stars without it? How do the Hurd and all the other space-faring races do this? And there were some very strong ones which posed a serious challenge to the Great Crusade. Or is Warp travel NOT that critical, it was just the way the Empire got used to having long-range strategic mobility thanks to the Astronomicon? Ie, being able to travel via the Warp is an advantage but not a requirement?
My one and only detail brush has fallen after 6 years of service. Attempts to repair have been unsuccessful. I was considering getting a nice sable brush at some point, so it's time.

>How can the Tau reach anything but the tiniest fraction of neighboring stars without it? They don't, they've found a couple of portals that let them jump to a couple places but they mostly have small empires

Anything else is just using warp travel of some form in a similar method to the Imperium(and might be piggy backing off of the astronomican).

>>95896227I'll talk about the game a bit. Here's mucho texto most people won't read:
So my flgs runs a seasonal league which all the players like to participate in. I don't really like leagues because I don't like competitive list building or ugly terrain, but the vast majority of players in the community here only wanted to play games if they were league games, so I signed up just to make sure I always had games to play.
I actually did really well, went 11-1 and qualified for the tournament. But that 12th game I lost was the one that kind of turned me off to the whole thing.
I have found that when it's a casual pickup game I tend to crush, but as soon as you put me up against a tournament-tier list I get tabled by turn 3. So far as I can tell, it's a listbuilding problem - I am playing suboptimal units that just don't cut it at that level. The solution is to get better units...and I won't, because I hate the meta units in IG right now. Tauroxes? I refuse to ever purchase one. Ratlings? No thanks. Artillery? I prefer chimeras.
So I feel like I kind of hit a ceiling, and it's robbed me of the motivation to play. The way to get better seems like 'stop playing the army you like and play one that works better', and that's just an unfun concept to me.
>>95896303That it's either Horus Heresy rules but for 40k, or that it's so unbelievably bad it makes it even easier to convince people to try old editions.

>>95896359The only rumor about new factions is one for darkmek, I think GW is at a point where it physically cannot bring itself to make something new instead of digging up something old in its own IP, which is a shame because 40k and fantasy got great thanks to blatant plagiarism, while they path they're walking can only lead to the IP getting more and more inbred.
But then again, there's not much around in the world right now that could be compared to the iconic shit of the 80s and 90s, and copied, if anything all other medias are treading and retreading the same slop as well, if not even worse because they go at it at a way faster pace than gw.

Autismos and nerds may not be the most profitable, but they are loyal to a fault. They will bitch, moan and complain, but in the end if you tickle their fancy enough they'll stay and be passive income for you. It'd be interesting to measure this in a long term sense.
>>95896230>Britkek crying about drawings again while ignoring the paki grooming gangsNonce island
>>95896641They don't die, come back, and do every secondary.
>>95896649This is what you'd *expect* to be true on paper, but actually, isn't
Case in point: the most, and I mean most by a HUGE MARGIN, the most profitable product Wizards of the Coast, makers of Magic the Gathering cards, ever made were their stupid fucking card-crossovers with existing IPs
Pic related, a shitty crossover with The Walking Dead, that every veteran player HATED because it wasn't just a vanity card/alt art (like the Godzilla cards) but a real card that was ruining the atmosphere of the game with modern/contemporary settings
This fucking thing was the most profitable thing WotC ever made up until that point. No contest, it outsold everything they had ever made up until that point. Normies who just wanted slop that they recognized ate it up, and veteran players who have been playing for years got completely outclassed
the honest truth is you are massively, massively underestimating how many normies with disposable income there are. the "loyal" veterans of a hobby are peanuts compared to them.
(You) are not important to Games Workshop's bottom line.
>>95896649>>95896676Also before you say "oh, the normies will just buy this and move on," no, because WotC keeps making more cross-over slop to appeal to them. The Final Fantasy crossover set just dropped this week. It won't end.
>>95896676>>95896680Fair point, I'm just wondering how long this will last because looking outside of the ttg space, you can see super popular things eventually dropping off of normalfag radars quickly. The only thing that seems to be getting attention is nostalgiabux these days, which I think is why the MtG effect is happening: It's not so much what they have done with the game but rather they tapped into the normalfag "nostalgia" factor inside of a nerdy hobby. It's not like mechanically MtG has changed, most of the formats still play mostly like you would expect Magic to play.
40k is in a different position I feel, where the game itself is changing mechanically to fit the normalfag audience and only time will tell if this will play out long term or go the way that legacy IPs seem to be going these days: Milked to death then tossed aside until it can be cashed in for nostalgia points.
See: Vidya, movies and tv. The only entertainment mediums not affected by this thus far does seem to be TTG and music for some reason.
>>95896676To my dismay, our gaming club is full of veterans who have tens of commander decks solely made up of fucking ezio auditore from AC, walking dead, transformers slop and a ton of other universes beyond decks. Even old players buy this shit.
>>9589668540k can't really be tossed aside the way other IPs do because 40k is GW's only relevant IP and something they've been working on for the better part of half a decade.
Why would they kill the goose? It would be silly.
>>95896685True, you can dumb down the art of mtg without affecting the game - though I think this is mostly because they can't lol, they should do away with the lands system but kind of can't because of how entrenched it is in their system + the physical cards (it's why the digital MtG Arena is starting to distance itself from the physical game's rules but that's beside the point)
Most games get more and more streamlined to appeal to normies, because it makes sense, you've already captured the attention of your core audience, the only way to expand your business is to change the product to be more appealing to a more generic amount of people. Were Games Workshop satisfied with the profits they're making now and didn't expand, they wouldn't have to do this, but capitalism is a false-hydra that will grow until it dies under its own weight.
Looking at how WoW streamlined the shit out of itself every expansion and now it is the most normieslop video game out there
>>95896697>Why would they kill the goose? To try and get even more than it gave them on a greedy dare fueled by arrogance.
>>95896697We have seen GW toss away an old IP they have worked on for decades once it stopped making money due to their stupid decisions.
one thing that I miss from older rulebooks is those cute little phrases to give some theme to rules
i don't know how to explain it but a current rulebook says something like
"if a transport advances models inside cannot disembark"
and older one would say something like
"if a transport advances models inside cannot disembark, not even the bravest warriors would dare attempt getting off a vehicle moving at full speed"
i miss those tiny bits of fluff. they used to be everywhere too

The overwhelming amount of their relevance and income comes exclusively from 40k and there's no other IP that comes even close. Their synthetics are really decent too and cheap, I keep a big bunch of their S301's on hand for when I need a brush I dont mind fucking up lol.
Just one other thing, that's a really really small tip on that brush, I'd question if you would ever need a brush that small if you have a brush that keeps its tip well instead. Even for stuff like eyes I go for a number 3 or 2 with a good tip rather than a 0 or whatever it is.

>>95896947>Twitter screencapRegardless, what does this mean? Most people have a problem with Warhammer having an ongoing narrative, not lore/fluff.
>>95896947That's true for just about everything though, especially nerd fandoms. People hold onto their idea of what something should be and fight tooth and nail to protect it.
>>95896950I think people have an issue with how the ongoing narrative is executed, rather than it being.
>>95896943half of my disdain for current necron lists isn't even their strength, it's just how boring they are. it seems like their entire strategy revolves around arks, though I'm a little out of date, maybe they're not as strong now as when the grotmas detachment first came out but it's still boring seeing them run about as many models as a custodes list because almost all of it is tied up in vehicles and less on actual infantry
>>95896924Which is of course one of the main issues with portraying morale in 40k, so many armies have excuses to be immune to it. Space marines literally have the tagline "And they shall know no fear". Battleshock is meant to present many other things that go wrong during a fight as well, and there's literally no reason Custodes should be immune beyond Custodes players being whiny fuckers who don't want the feefees of their precious golden banana men hurt.

All is Lost!: Unless within 6" of an Ethereal unit, one additional model is removed any time the is unit has to remove any models as the result of allocated wounds or mortal wounds.
Tyranids
>Natural Instincts: Unless within synaptic range of a unit, this unit is always considered battleshocked. When this unit is in engagement range of an enemy unit and not within synaptic range, this unit fights last.Genestealer Cults:
>The Star Gods Have Abandoned Us!: Units that are battleshocked cannot be put in strategic reserves. If the unit was slain while battleshocked, it cannot return as a result of Cult Ambush. This effect is ignored for all units if the Patriarch is on the battlefield. Squats:
>Ancestor's Scorn: Battleshocked units that are slain do not generate a Judgement Token. In addition, battleshocked units must attack enemy units as if the unit had one less judgement token on them. This effect is ignored if the unit is within 6" of a Grimnyr
>>95896962I think it depends how you look at lore. If you look at lore as set dressing and excuses for games to happen, I think nobody minds that. Because as soon as fans realize that the company and writers behind the setting/IP don't give a shit about it at all and do whatever, like break or intentionally break established rules of the setting or its rules. It just tells everyone the company no longer cares about the actual product and they only care about selling as much shit so they can squeeze out every penny from their customer base.
And once the fans realize that and notice everything that is made is just soulless, grey mush with no passion behind it, the fans will just stop caring and move on.
Apathy is the true killer. Because once nobody gives a shit about your IP, it will wither and die.
Good example of this was Dr. Who. Even me a plebian who has only watched like 1 or 2 episodes , I know that the Doctor can regenerate only 12 times after that he dies permanently.
Well what did the people behind Dr. Who do? They just up-ended that piece of lore entirely and just said "fuck it" and had the Doctor regenerate anyway for the 13th time, breaking the lore.

Holyshit, I went down a rabbithole looking at Eldar seers and LOOK AT THIS PAINTJOB ON THE FACEPLATE! FUCKIN AWESOME!
>>95897856your post reminds me of something that I almost did. someone posted some alpha legion spreads recently and had some images of AL schemes from 7th/8th. I was going to respond saying how shit their scheme went from, too much green too many scales. At first I thought this was a change that happened in 6th/7th but before I posted I took a look at my 2nd edition chaos codex and the Blanche art of the AL had those same scales there.
>>95897856>I don't like X>X has always been>I still don't like XAnd that's fine.
I'm perfectly capable of accepting what official fluff says at any given time, I just choose to ignore the parts I don't care about or think are stupid in exchange for parts I do enjoy or which make sense to me. My armies and models are beholden only to the rules and the idea I have for them.
>>95897856Very true.
Your example is very applicable to the whole "chaos is shared by all warhammer IPs meaning it is a multiverse". It's been true since the very begining.
However, I still think it's shit none the less and shouldn't exist.
what are these metal cups with hair coming out of them called?

>>95897949>>95897961And both of those stances are fine, but we cannot pretend your preference is "GW ruined Warhammer in Xth"
>>95897961>"chaos is shared by all warhammer IPs meaning it is a multiverse".Theres also a fuck ton of multiversal statements even if you don't count fantasy
>>95897969>but we cannot pretend your preference is "GW ruined Warhammer in Xth"I am a stubborn piece of shit and I will say that, because it is my god given right.
>>95897910I'm not a fan that first they changed the purple and green AL into their pre-Heresy colours and then just made 30k AL also blue and silver.

>>95897969When have I ever said "GW ruined 40k in Xth edition" or the like? I do admit I quite following the fluff by 5e, because it was getting tiresome and felt like the people didn't care, but I'm also willing to admit even 2e and 3e contained major changes that reorganized the setting. At this point it's not about trying to understand some wider setting, just browsing through different bits and finding parts I think are neat.
>>95897968>Not sure if GW has ever given them an official termI'm asking about the name of the real thing, slaanesh models have similar bits but with less fluffy hair.
>>95898024this is an anonymous image board, The stance that after X edition the 40k is no longer the real or true 40k is a very very common dismissal to any fluff arguments.

I wish GW wasnโt so obsessed with top knots with a lot of their models.
>>95897895I remember looking at the results of some community oldhammer painting competition a year or two ago and half the entries were eldar farseers
>>95898071picking your own fluff is fine, but when we are talking in a general sense like "Would techmarines in the dark imperium still get shipped to mars"
answering with your own headcanon when no one asked isn't valid, we have to at a baseline stick to canon and then say "well canon is kind of silly so maybe most of them would go to forge world lucius"
>>95898078top knots are a cheat code, you don't understand
it's like capes and horned helmets, you can turn anything into a better design for a model with them
>>95898082To be honest that fluff about ALL techmarines being trained on mars and ONLY mars is pretty stupid imo.
It makes way more sense if the chapter sends their marines to the closest forgeworld.
>>95898079Farseers are legitimately one of the coolest series of 40k models to be produced and each one is rad as fuck.
>>95898095there aren't that many techmarines in the galaxy for the logistics of centralising their training on mars to be a problem
and spreading the teachings of the mechanicus out of the cult, and to what's a near independent entity out of their control no less, is already a stretch
>>95898089Top knots on helmets are fine to me, cause they can take it off and look like whatever under. But factions like the Eldar taking their helmets off and a good chunk of them having a top knot looks weird.
>>95898082>"Would techmarines in the dark imperium still get shipped to mars"Would they?
>>95897997>>95898040I like the one where they use Kabalite Green edge highlights.

>>95898082>the dark imperiumthat's a nothingburger, the imperium does have back and forth with it, marines especially
>>95898127There's plenty of techmarines and adepts. They crew vehicles, maintain chapter ships, oversee the forges, etc. Sure, there's tons of artificers to take care of more mundane functions, but marines are at the very top overseeing everything. And someone has to train those artificers as well. That multiplied with a thousand chapters spread across the entire galaxy, plus the constant attrition of having to train new ones would put plenty of strain on the logistics of moving all those people back and forth through the now split galaxy.
Do think it makes perfect sense to send your techmarines to Mars whenever possible, but in times of need a select few Forge Worlds should be able to suffice as well. With the blessing of Mars, of course.
>>95898155Impressive paintjob but kitbash-wise that looks very ass.
>>95898198I do wish they expanded the hierarchies of techmarines and chaplains to match librarians

>>95898198>There's plenty of techmarines and adepts. not that many, the attrition is not that high either, they're marines, not guardsmen.
>>95898082My headcannon is that Techmarines get shipped to all kinds of forgeworlds and instead of being always red they paint their armor on the colors of the one they went to. Prestigious chapters get to send their techmarines to ivy league forgeworlds like Mars or Ryza while obscure or not well connected chapters like Marines Malevolent have to send theirs to the Forge World of Imperial Samoa or something.
>>95898155The army are tiny but it looks tremendous
>>95898198Oh for fuck sake, is this some new lore where all vehicles have machine spirits now? Used to just be Land Raiders, Knights and Titans (but bizarrely not the IG Superheavy tanks like Baneblade, Shadowsword etc)
>>95895777Hell yeah brother
>>95898278Techmarines still take to the battlefield to get killed and new chapters get founded. The amount might not be huge on a galactic scale, but it's across the Imperium. Factor in that the shipment of adepts to Mars can (will) get lost on the way or delayed, you want to keep a reserve of dudes in case of emergency, etc. It's not like, "hey, we need two more techmarines, could you guys pop by the techmarine store on your way?"
>>95898331>but it's across the Imperiumwhich you can travel in like 3 months and have constant back and forth of shipments and personnel already

Do you guys think theyโll shy away from 2K point games being the standard? I feel like collecting to smaller points thresholds encourages collecting more armies, and if they replace Combat Patrolโs system with something more like Spearhead, they could sell even more models across 40Kโs whole range.

>>95898488Tldr there's a running theme throughout the book about things representing other things or taking the form of other things, until their forms and essences become enmeshed and intertwined. Just like Rei's humanity koolaid in EoE
>>95898536Thatโs the whole point of Spearhead and Combat Patrol, you buy one box and have a playable list while also acting as a cornerstone for a wider army. In AoS they actually cared about the game mode so itโs rather popular and arguably is overshadowing the main game while Combat Patrol is a bit of a mess.
>>95898464Explain. Last time I read Moby Dick I was like 10.
>>95898541>all vehicles now having a machine spirit.Anon, even a stub gun has a machine spirit. Some machine spirits are just more sophisticated.
>>95898464>Neon Genesis EvangelionAh yes the feel-good mecha anime where sad "woe-is-me" teens pilot biomechanical Freudian nightmares to fight biblical metaphors, all while spiralling into existential breakdowns so the creator can work through his depression in real time. It starts like Gundam and ends like a group therapy session hosted by God, if God were a giant naked clone of your mum. The show teases deep religious symbolism, only to admit itโs just there to look cool, then punishes you for expecting coherent plotlines by replacing the finale with a PowerPoint presentation about why you hate yourself.
That level of understanding, yes?
>>95898577>rather popular and arguably is overshadowing the main gameYes and I don't want that because I never thought or would consider to buy an army box, it's either for people looking to splurge or for clueless and aimless people who don't know what they want to start the faction with.
>>95898599Then Tengan topa gurran lagan and Kill la Kill are supposed to be companion shows somehow.

>>95898590No it doesnโt, they make that shit in the underhive out of scrap, theres not secret to it nor is there any computing substrate involved to house a quasi-AI Machine Spirit. If thatโs how Games Workshop tries to sell it nowadays they can fuck right off.

Most the time it's a spiritual thing, and used to talk about any quirks or issues the machine has. Appeasing the machine spirit is just proper maintenance.
Then you have the 'Machine Spirit', machines with cognitor engines, wired-in servitors, rudimentary AI and the like.
Landraiders, Knights, Titans have the AI side of things.
Rhinos and the like, are non-heuristic computers that Techmarines can interface with.
Baneblades do have cognitor also, in fairly certain it's an actual visible piece on the vehicle. It wouldn't be the same as in a Rhino, and especially not the same as a Landraider.
>canis rex is now 380 points

>>95896970It's fun and terrible at the same time. People like the Saw movies, which are just people getting tortured or monster movies, where the cast is getting hunted by some unbeatable creature. I would have expected better cinematics from such a popular franchise
>>95898633It's 450, where are you getting this from?
>>95898623>If thatโs how Games Workshop tries to sell it nowadaysThat's how it has always been. "Machine spirit" is whatever makes a thing work. Gun jammed? You didn't appease the machine spirit with enough oil. Blue screen of death? Didn't recite the litany of defragging often enough. You're confusing it with the Power of the Machine Spirit wargear that's just a highly sophisticated intelligence for powering bigger war machines.
>>95898653>>95898633>>95898663I just checked Warcom, it really is 380 points. I think this is awesome, I honestly think that 1 toughness for 70 points is a totally fair trade. It's not even 70 points, because we gained 4 wounds. My Canis Rex Ally is slightly less punishing now!

>>95898663Cool, allied Knights getting even better!
>>95898623I think you missed the 40 years of lore depicting the mechanicus as tech tards who think you have to spritz everything with 'sacred oil' (WD-40) to get it to work no matter what it is.
Yes, AI and programming is interpreted by these dumbasses as machine spirits. But they believe literally everything has a machine spirit. An engine with no computer parts has one, a gun has one. They say in the fluff all the time "let me appease this ailing machine spirit" when going to work on physical things without electronics.
>>95898684admech gets a bad rap because of their religious fervor about things, but realistically they aren't any worse than modern day engineers and mechanics it's just the verbiage is loonybin stuff

>>95898693>but realistically they aren't any worse than modern day engineers and mechanics it's just the verbiage is loonybin stuffWrong. The vast majority of admech are literal retards who think you have to appease a ghost to make an engine work. There are decent mechanics in the setting, and most of them are hated by the broader admech for being sacrilegious in how they handle technology. They will literally kill people for knowing the forbidden spell of tapping CTR + ALT + DELETE a bunch of times in quick succession to force a reboot. You are a tertiary who has never actually read a story with admech characters to see how the author's characterize their skills.

40k has some nuance but it's extremely minor and surface level stuff, specifically because the setting is supposed to exist so you put your own little guys and make your own little stories with them, the setting is just a nice thematic blueprint on top. Personally I just dislike 40k's current direction because it's activly walking towards "yuh huh bolter porn imperium good epic hero" capeslop shit instead of "misery porn everyone sucks and everyone is a lunatic in space" shit. If I wanted cool heros beating aliens I would be a 8yo watching Clone Wars, the whole point of 40k is being a different setting filled with crazy off the top people and not just generic stoic cool guy personality marines. It's why inquisition stuff and the imperium's inner workings is some of the best atmosphere this setting has and how Dan Abnett ruined it with his Eisenhorn series. It's also why Guilliman replacing the high lords was the worst thing possible

In every paragraph you highlighted there is a million other statements right next to them to remind you these guys are retarded priests who follow 15k year old MRCs without understanding what they do but if they follow it right it works.

>>95898753>It's also why Guilliman replacing the high lords was the worst thing possibleYou didn't read that book. >>95898845>hit on 3+ meant to say, it has been a while since I I've rolled dice.
>>95898807>The rest of that passage goes on to say people perceive those who work with tech like witches, not that they're literally practicing witchcraftLet me quote the rest of that passage in it's entirety for you.
>Those who come into contact with technology use it with reservations and a reverence that are almost religiousThe only way you can attempt to strangle your headcannon out of that is if you are an autist. Which, you know, I'm sympathetic of your mental impairment. Real human beings can accept 40k for the cool 80s pop culture bombastic setting it is. Autistic people make it their personality and have to water everything down to a bunch of reasonable, intelligent people to fit into their orderly black and white thinking worlds. And as an autistic person, you are unable to change your views or incorporate new information that disturbs the order you've created in your mind.
So I accept, that in your inferior brains mind, the admech are great scientists doing great things and inventing new technologies that drive the imperium forward and hope is on the horizon and the good guys will win one day. I accept that in your mind, which is unable to understand context or themes, 40k is a universe filled with good guys and bad guys.
>>95898825>admech are busy doing mad scientist shit and constantly in a war with necrons/votann/tau over technology shenanigansNone of that is mutually exclusive with being backwards and having rudimentary understanding of the principles behind what they do. Stealing alien technology is a necessity because they can't invent it themselves, outside of radicals who are actively persecuted for their behavior. Which you would know, if you read Cawl's books. Or literally any 40k book in the last 40k years with an admech character.
>>95898792>WITCHCRAFT IN MEDIEVAL TIMESWhich is what technology is to everyone else, while Admech has the remaining scientific knowledge.

>they literally just use old shit they find because its shit they can't make themselvesAnd when they find a fragment of something, they build everything around it. Land Speeders are based on just the grav plates, everything else was invented by someone else. Land Raiders are based on half of the schematics for a battle tank. Plenty of weapons, vehicles and ships were made along the millennia, either by using fragments of old stuff or combining things in ways never before seen. We do that today. >>95898978Oh yea, true. I see where you are coming from. Also the admech, even with it's ban on Abominable Intelligence, still uses AI when it can get away with it and will often just label it a "powerful machine spirit". The definition of what is a powerful machine spirit and what is abominable intelligence is quite literally a major theological schism in the Mechanicus.

>>95899050And still makes no sense since even a backwater, middle-of-bumfuck-nowhere planet in the Imperium will contain at least 100 billion humans.
Remember, an average hivecity contains anywhere 10 billion to 100 billion humans within.
Siege of vraks casualties being so low is plain retarded.
>>95899074>And still makes no sense since even a backwater, middle-of-bumfuck-nowhere planet in the Imperium will contain at least 100 billion humansNo it doesn't, there is no set minimum for the population of any given planet. Your numbers are just fanfiction.
>>95899074vraks had a population of 8 million, the point is that the numbers are all overt the place and don't make sense for a 17 year conflict when we have shown in real life we can kill people way more efficiently than that and we're not in the grimderp future where there is only war and bad vibes
>>95899080We kind of do have populations numbers for different types of worlds

>>95899123This is what the thousand sons guy should've bought as his Rhino
>>95898953>gimp is ESLMakes even more sense.
>>95899135"Tens of Millions" even from the 10th Edition Codex that I dont currently have on me or I'd take a picture. Was reading it last night. Eldar really are, comparatively, dying out.
>>95898988Very much so. Such as how in 2e Heresy era Chaos plasma was dangerous and still experimental while post-Heresy Imperial plasma was safe.
>>95899183it's still a significant number considering how each and every one of them is a warrior too
>>95899135Nop, but I do remember that in older codex they mention that beside craftworld, exodites and maiden worlds. Eldar colonize random worlds too.
So the dying out part is not exactly true.
>>95899195Still, its a pittance even compared to one Imperial Hiveworld or Manufactory System.
>>95899183>~20mil per Craftworld>~1000 Craftworlds>Only 20 billion Eldar in the Galaxy>Couldn't even populate one fifth of the smallest hive worldHow are these guys a super power again?
>>95899203Note that this is inconsistent with the Codex claim that Craftworld Eldar are the most numerous type of Eldar, because Commorragh is stated elsewhere to have the population of ten hive cities.
>>95899089Also as even more evidence the millions of soldiers and chaos cultists swarming to the planet would have actually grown the population of the planet.
>>95899192Must have taken a mad bastard to want to be a plasma gunner when you could have just had a volkite weapon or grav gun that didnโt run the risk of turning into a small sun in your hands.
>>95899232Volkites didn't exist back then and graviton guns were more specialized demolition tools that didn't do direct damage. Besides, the ability to fire every turn was a major bonus for Chaos plasma even with the added danger. Imperial plasma needed a turn to recharge.
>>95899112>>95899102Doesn't include minor hives unfortunately, which would be a smaller or dilapidated hive with a lower population. Hive Worlds like Necromunda are massive, but there are definitely lower population hives. We have also seen that there is variable sizes to hives as well, some are bigger than others. Often a planet has one giant hive and then connected outer hives that are smaller in size. If only one smaller hive is remaining on a planet with no atmosphere or habitable biome the population would be lower.
Also was Vraks a hive world? The maps made the cathedral look like it was built on a hill with walls that were breached from the surrounding trenches, which is nothing like a hive.
>>95899203>How are these guys a super power again?Anon, they aren't. Eldar haven't been important on the galactic stage since the Fall, and they're barely managing to hold on as it is. The only Craftworld that could act as a proper military power was Biel Tan, and they got destroyed by a Daemon incursion.
>>95899180nta but I've reread that post like 50 times looking for an ESL moment and I can't find one. what are you talking about?

>>95899203CWE are not a superpower. They are a dying race and they fuck up any time they attempt anything. Also CWE are basically the amish for pre-fall Eldar society. They are about as much of a superpower as the amish are IRL.
>>95899248>Volkites didn't exist back thenMight be old lore, they definitely do now, Horus Heresy lets you take Volkite weaponry on a whole bunch of units, including some Solar Auxilia Imperial Army elite squads. Space Marines Legions have liberal access to them.
>>95899290No, the Exodites are the Amish, the Craftworlds are the guys who realized a bit late that everything was fucked and tried a last-ditch escape and some of them made it.
>>95899290>They are about as much of a superpower as the amish are IRL.You ever meet Amish IRL? Fuckers can get together by sunup, put a whole barn together by noon, have lunch and get the paint dry before dinner. They ARE a super power.
>>95899203Eldar are the weakest faction in the game, anon. If you had a compendium of all Eldar lore and went through it you'd find instances of every other faction in the game beating them handidly, usually multiples of them. Meanwhile Eldar victories could be counted on your fingers.
They only manage to continue existing because of plot armor.

>>95899047People meme this all the time but it was only a couple of writers a couple of times. On the whole, GW was fine with numbers, it's just that nobody fucking reads any lore except the one trendy thing the youtube fags blab about, like Vraks. Armageddon even in third edition was said to be a conflict with casualties in the billions in just the opening stages, for example.
>>95899074>even a backwater, middle-of-bumfuck-nowhere planet in the Imperium will contain at least 100 billion humansNo, not at all. Yes there are planets in the Imperium with hundreds of billions, but these are not backwater bumfuck worlds. Those can have as few as a handful of millions or even less. Everything exists in the Imperium from scarcely populated feudal and feral worlds all the way up to Forge Worlds which even outclass Hive Worlds in terms of population density.
>>95899262Biel-Tan still exists, they "just" lost half their population, the craftworld is still about, you can still play the most racist space elves.
>>95899304>No, the Exodites are the Amish, the Craftworlds are the guys who realized a bit late that everything was fucked and tried a last-ditch escape and some of them made it.The path system was established by individuals who were basically ultra conservatives who saw the immoral behavior of the masses was going to turn out bad. The Craftworlds existed as galaxy trekking trading and exploration vessels. Their long voyage times caused their culture to be insulated from the growing power of the pleasure cults. They had the means to escape the fall for centuries beforehand and prepared for it ahead of time.
>You ever meet Amish IRL? Fuckers can get together by sunup, put a whole barn together by noon, have lunch and get the paint dry before dinner. They ARE a super power.

>>95899402>is it though? You got to remember anon, space marines are meant to show up at very strategic points and really nowhere else. You drop marines at decisive points, while 99.999999% of the fighting is the guard. People get the wrong idea of them from the constant amounts of marine media, but they are legit so insignificant for most wars that most high ranking guard generals most likely have never seen one.
>>95899461DAT CAN BE WARRRGHANGED.
>>95899430>random bumfuck Watch Captain with no prior loreUh, isn't that Captain Artemis? He's had lore since fucking Inquisitor in 2001.
>>95899484If I didn't know about him before hand he didn't exist, simple as.
>>95899374>1 million marines is the prime exampleThere's nothing off about that, it's intentional. Marines are rare strike forces that only fight in the most necessary engagements, 99% of the Imperium's fighting is done by the Guard and the Navy, with additional support from the Sisters, AdMech, Titan Legions, etc. Space Marines just get to hog the glory because much of the narrative focuses on them for selling the most plastic, but in-universe, they aren't everywhere all at once, they are the rare cavalry that sometimes swoops in and saves the day in the most dire circumstances.

>>95899519>do you know how fucking big our galaxy isI mean the imperium only has 1 million planets themselves, and not all of them are at war.
>>95899519Yeah, I do, and yes, it's enough for a few hundred guys to show up here and there in 1% of the wars.
The Imperium doesn't populate the whole galaxy, lorelet, it only has somewhere roughly over a million worlds, so there's about 1 Space Marine per planet. About 10% of the Imperium is engulfed in war at any one time, so that's about 10 Space Marines per warzone, and the Marines only show up to say the toughest 5-10% of those warzones so that's maybe 100-200 Marines in each of those engagements, with the occasional mega-battle where multiple chapters show up at once, and those can be counted on your fingers (Cadia, Baal, Armageddon, etc).
The numbers check out.
>>95899539>>95899542your idea of scalability is as retarded as GW's
you're beyond hope.
>>95899542I always got the impression that most conflicts the Imperium roflstomps the warzone, and if Marines do show up they orchestrate a win almost instantly. It all just happens off screen because it's not very interesting to have John Space Marine show up and genocide half the planet before moving on except as a lore blurb. Half a chapter is made up of guys over 200 years old, so they clearly are able to regularly live to that age which means their attrition rate can't be too high in the average warzone.
You don't defeat thousands of the Emperor's foes without... defeating thousands of the Emperor's foes.
>>95899546Explain how that logic doesn't scan anon, you seem to be the one who thinks the imperium is some infinite sized state, when they maybe have a few hundred worlds at war at a time, with only a fraction of that actually needing space marines.
>>95899542why the fuck would you try to make GW's obviously bad numbers work instead of just accepting they are bad at numbers and ignoring them?
>>95899530that's not entirely true, GW has done a half decent job of making armies feel like their lore
it's just when space marines feel like their lore everyone collectively loses their fucking minds, like when we went up to 2w
>>95899563I'm not spoonfeeding a retard who typed up an entire paragraph of braindead british logic thinking it made sense, you're on your own to figure out why your numbers are retarded.

>>95899574Yep there we go, the calling thing of a man who has no argument. Cause obviously if you had one you'd easily be able to disprove me.

>>95899583Tabletop is the real 40k. Fluff outside of tabletop is Imperial propaganda and demented whispers of Chaos.
>>95899570I'm not "trying" to do anything, I just laid out facts and they add up just fine.
Lorelets just don't understand because they don't actually read lore, and think the Imperium is supposed to have these massive numbers of Marines to throw around or something, when it's simply not true. They've always, from the very beginning, been said to be a rare thing that's stretched dangerously thin, trying to protect worlds that are scattered very sparsely through a vast galaxy, holding on by the skin of their teeth. That's consistent lore that goes all the way back to RT.
>>95899573>it's just when space marines feel like their lore everyone collectively loses their fucking mindsHow shamelessly biased can you be? marines by lore die all the time, they're not all the cherrypicked protagonists your loretuber hyped you about.
>>95899600Name the last space marine who died.
>>95899586You just saying the numbers that the entire community have analyzed for decades trying to make sense of and being able to actually DO make sense isn't an argument, retard.

>>95899665Still can't help but notice you haven't actually said why the numbers are bad anon, the other guy did explain how they work. Was kind of odd how you stopped actually citing things after he did so and switched to deflection but maybe that's just me.

So it is a reasonable thing to say that the people saying the numbers don't make sense don't actually know the lore.
>>95899709I laid out numbers that add up, you haven't done anything but go "uhm NUH UH" without explaining why it's wrong. Because you can't, because it isn't wrong, and now you're seething and projecting and going "no u".

a 10 man of intercessors is just wiped out, 20 cadians will most likely still have 1 dude standing
that's a little ridiculous
>>95899736>Your bullshit math doesn't add up just because you say it doesSo how doesn't it? You still won't explain this part really odd, especially the insults when I'm just wanting an explanation.
>>95899750Even pretending your numbers make sense for a moment doesn't matter when you consider the logistics of them being rapid response when their only form of fast travel is inconsistent and unreliable
The amount of stories where they request marine relief and get none because none are available or they arrive too late are negligible to the point that they're not even in the running for consideration
having a million marines spread across a million worlds where they're usually traveling in groups of 100+ just doesn't work no matter how you try to spread it.
