FMF sur L'Oriental Aventures et Jeux & Strategie en Casus Belli
RIP François Marcela-Froideval
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZxUvKTsMow

"This series is dedicated to E. Gary Gygax, the first dreamer, inventor of the role-playing game, without whom the heroic fantasy and science-fiction genre would only be today a minor, almost forgotten genre. To this quiet giant who made millions of players dream.
To my master and friend. May he live forever in the universe he so patiently built.
In loving memory.'"

French man who came up with the first Orential Adventures material (even if he didn't write it) and the French comic series The Black Moon Chronicles.

Which is both the basis for the 3E Chainmail setting and the untitled western lands of Oreik, the setting of Greyhawk.
He did a fiar bit of work on AD&D material. Including creating Modrons.
He inspired Gygax to add the 7th stat Comeliness to Unearthed Arcana.

He basiscally brought RPGs to France and the French-speaking world.

I kind of understand where they're coming from though. It's certainly a bit annoying and disheartening to have a memorial thread for a guy influential to TTRPGs only for asshats to come in and be like:
"Lol lmao, who's this? why should I care?"
And I say that as someone who didn't know who he was before I came into this thread.
Not knowing who someone is doesn't make them unimportant or unworthy of acknowledgement. Especially after their passing.

But perhaps that's too much to ask for nowadays.

RIP in peace.

You beautiful bastard brought Comeliness into OA, immunizing the white male character against the Yellow Fever by the very rules of the universe.

Hope you get to have all the sex with red-headed demonesses or whatever Satanists think they'll get to enjoy in the here after.

I didn't say asking for an explanation was wrong. I simply suggested that being a dick about it was obnoxious in a thread that's attempting to honor someone that died.
I know it's 4chan and expecting decorum was my first mistake but it still feels like a race to the bottom.

Gygax did not invent RPGs, and actually came close to killing gaming thanks to him trying to take the idea Arneson naively brought him and trying to patent it (and thankfully having this fail), followed by numerous eroneous legal battles where he tried to kill any D&D competitors by intimidation via legal fees.

Gygax was a shitty guy, a lukewarm designer, and a complete retard when it came to writing. Everyone who tries to push him into the position of "Father of RPGs" might as well try to call Hitler the Father of Israel. He might have had a role in their creation, but no should celebrate him for it.

well he did inadvertently help by making adnd so shitty that many people tried so hard to "fix" it giving us the other gaming systems that helped foster gaming like the d100 titles, traveller and fighting fantasy that later evolved to gurps

the zionist jews had been writing essays and proposals imagining the zionist colonial settler project from the mid late 19th century till they eventually managed to get enough backing to kickstart the project after ww2. hitler and nazi germany was just the final nail on the coffin of palestine

Bruv, the settler colonial project got its first injection of chicken blood from the same source as the American Tail movies.

One of my (many) dreams is to make an army in a smaller scale, 6 or 10mm, inspired by the brotherhood of light.
Microworld were very close to make a 6mm High Elves army, which would have been perfect for that.

No, WotC reused the name Chainmail for a short-lived wargame and setting which was set in the western half of Oerik.
It looks vaguely like FMF’s Black Moon Chronicles with all the names changed.

>Greyhawk is based on the setting of the Black Moon Chronicles?!
No ,the Black Moon Chronicles is based on Froideval's D&D campaign, which was set in the undeveloped western half of Oerik. Originally his and Gygax's intention had been that he would publish material for Western Oerik, but due to Gygax losing control of TSR this didn't happen. I have to guess the high-level overview material of the geography was left in a drawer or some shit because it was then reused for the 3E-era Chainmail minis game even though nothing about it but the actual map features was the same as Black Moon.

Chainmail 3E was set after a major divinity-shattering apocalypse. Which caps off a similar arc in BMC.
Obviously things are different.
