I've painted up a bunch of models for fun over the year, but now I want to commit to doing a full 2,000pt force. I've narrowed my choices down to Cities of Sigmar and Darkoath
Will we get Idoneth next week? Will we ever get it?

>>95917810All things in balance
>>95917832the swirlies engraved on the weapon and arm plates and the ropes with parchment around the ankles actually pair extremely well with the lumineth cow spirits who have a lot of the same things.
i think a lumineth/cathay hybrid army could work
>>95917832I dunno. I feel like they homogenized the aesthetic too much and the humans just look...idk. blocky. It doesnt appeal to me and i've binge watched romance of the three kingdoms like 2-4 times. Also read and watch xianxia and wuxia stuff, still not really for me. Ill gladly be looking forward to the 3d printing scene though, at least cathay will revitalize that.
>>95917860> look...idk. blocky.thats rank and flank doing its work to be honest. they prefer the tin soldier look, everyone in identical static poses, very little dynamism so you can simulate your rectangles. the only units allowed to have interesting poses are the ones that stand alone like big monsters or cavalry heroes.
>>95917753no fuck that
>>95917786I honestly like painting both about equally. Right now I think Darkoath has the edge, because I could include cool StD monsters. But yeah in the long term they'll probably plug the gaps in the CoS range and it'll end up a lot stronger.
OK fuck it I've almost finished my Cities Spearhead, I went ahead and order the army box. I hereby declare that I shall build and paint a full 2,000 pt Cities of SIgmar army, and purchase no Warhammer models not part of that project until my army is complete!
>>95917805>one less Cathay player in TOWGood, I'll hog the spotlight now.

The dragons are busy elsewhere and cannot mediate, and soon the conflict draws blood when the son of the original lord is killed by a bullet fired from the ramparts as he tries to negotiate. The two provinces go to war with each other."

Fantasyfag grognard here. Haven't given a solitary shit about AoS since launch. Does it have any decent lore or factions that aren't just old things with serial numbers filed off? Everything still just infinite unconnected realms with no stakes or scale?
>>95919918>Does it have any decent lore or factions that aren't just old things with serial numbers filed off?Yes
> Everything still just infinite unconnected realms with no stakes or scale? It hasn't been since maybe six months after launch
>>95919897No, I didn't. The ambitious lord moves in because he expects the defenders to lose (and it's not necessarily an unreasonable expectation, it's deliberately not established whether he has reason to believe so or not), and then I create the conflict when an important figure is assassinated (deliberately hinting that a third party is responsible for this, not the Cathayans themselves, because there's precedent for outside forces tricking the Cathayans into infighting). The son being killed when he tries to negotiate in good faith is casus belli, and the Cathayans are also established as very proud, to the point that it causes problems for them, so when accused of killing the son, the ambitious lord will obviously deny that he is responsible, at which point conflict becomes inevitable.
>nooo they would just talk it out!!!Your son is dead, and his killer has stolen your lands and denies culpability. Wars have been fought for far less.
>>95919897>ignored everything about the people of Cathay and how they don't have conflicts between each other and how they are always considerate of the needs of each other and so onsource: Ministry of Cathayan Truth
>>95919946>Wars have been fought for far lessNot in Cathay according to the fluff. In fact the fluff is explicit about these kind of things happening everywhere except Cathay.
>>95919918Katakros and the Ossiarchs have very cool lore. Undead civilization builders constructed from bone and infused with a collection of lesser souls to give them sentience far beyond normal undead, and Katakros himself is just a very entertaining character.
>His underlings calls him the Undefeated, and he himself doesn't bother correcting them despite knowing he's been defeated several timesI recommend their 2nd edition battletome and the Wrath of the Everchosen campaign book for more fluff on them.
>>95919959Anon, the AJ literally has a story about Cathayans being tricked into fighting each other.
>>95919865>Zero contradictions with existing fluff. The nation is in harmony and without intercine conflict, your headcanon contradicts that.
>>95919973It really doesn't. It's explicitly a very small skirmish that ends very fast. Nowhere near an actual conflict between two groups.
>>95919966Thanks. Never been much of a fan of undead factions (Tomb Kings, Necrons, Vampire Counts can be fun enough), nor the general god-tier fuckery that is Nagash, but I'll give those a glance. From what I've seen the elves are just an unsalvageable mess unfortunately.
Maybe that's my biggest issue with AoS. It does "too much" with everything. But more power to those that dig it.
Opinions on Tamiya Limonene? I know it takes longer to fully cure, but other than that does it work as well as regular stuff?
>>95919865Freeguild are colonial settlers clashing with one another over land like Israel-Jordan
Cathay is a one state Chinese utopia directly overseen by gods, there is no internal conflict
this was definitely intentional, they are exactly the same size and proportion as mega gargants, and almost the same pose too
>>95920208>megagargants army that's just cathay sentinels pretty cool
but I would believe the size and pose are incidental, I think it's more that this is the new standard for a giant thing, since it's the limit of their sprues and a tested price range
>>95920217>and a tested price rangeits almost $100 cheaper than a mega gargant. $127 vs $215
Well Cathay has sold out instantaneously in all markets even though it was produced in larger numbers than any AoS release this edition since Skaventide. Tick tock, Shitmarcels, what will you do now TOW is conclusively proven to be far more popular than AOS?
>>95920240That means they're going to add upgrade sprues over the years, doesn't it?
>>95920259maybe, who knows. old world stuff is just cheaper overall though than main game products, with the exception of that chinese spy balloon model, shits like $160 for a 130 pt model lol
These are my predictions for events that will occur in future issues.
1. The identity of the Celestant Prime is revealed, and to everyone's surprise, it's not Karl Franz, but just some generic character. GW tricked us all.
2. Vlad von Carstein returns with Nagash's help, "kills" Mannfred, and takes his place as the new mortarch.
3. The Bonesplitters and the Beasts of Chaos return, completely new and reinvented. The Bonesplitters are no longer part of the Destruction, they are now part of the Order, "The Fists of Sigmar," and the Beasts of Chaos are now part of the Destruction, with Kragnos as their new god, "The Crushing Hooves."
4. The Duardin gods return with their children, and a new Duardin faction, "The Reborn of Iron and Stone," is formed.
5. Archaon kills one of the Four Chaos Gods, possibly Khorne, and takes his place as the new God of Chaos.
6-Sigmar travels through time to the past and stops the end of times, creating a new timeline apart from Age of Sigmar called Warhammer Fantasy The New Rebirth (this will only happen if The Old World fails or rather when it fails because it will fail)

>>95919918GW has done at least some work in grounded each of the realms a bit. Cosmologically speaking, each of the realms are not actually infinite, just fuckhuge, it would take a lifetime to travel from one end to the other. Additionally, only a fraction of each realm is actually habitable, as the further you travel away from the centre the more saturated with the realms' respective magic the land becomes, and thus aren't really habitable. Reality tends to break down around the edges, it's not a pleasant place to be. Hysh' edge is so bright it could permanently blind a god, and people that travel to ghyran's edge can get stuck in a permanent hellish cycle of giving birth, etc.
Anyway, the centres of all the realms are where civilization is most concentrated, where the narrative and battles mainly takes place. GW has released maps for each of the realm's heartlands where you'll find the forts & cities of major factions, etc. For aqshy for example, this is the 'great parch', probably the setting's most detailed piece of land, for ghur this is the 'ghurish heartlands' (picrel). Similar maps exist for each of the realms except for azyr I think, since that's gw's no fun allowed realm (at least for now).
I enjoy both of fantasy and aos for their settings, but for different things. Fantasy for a """"""grounded""""""" single world, similar to ours where most regions and factions have relatively 1 for 1 real life equivalents, with easily recognizable races and cultures drawing on popular fantasy and historical tropes. Age of sigmar for a semi-mythical world taking place on norse-myths-inspired realms where magic is an everyday occurence and the consequences that brings. Gods walk the earth, but they can be slain (as happens with grimnir), and this obviously effects the everyday people. Try to enjoy it as it's own seperate thing, gw pitched it as a replacement of fantasy but frankly that's a shit way to engage with aos and it'll fail tremendously if you try to do so.

>>95922489This is something I try explaining to people but it’s hard to grasp intuitively. That is: when a game developer (wether it’s board games, war games, video games, etc) simplifies the game, they are NOT doing it for the players, they are doing it for THEMSELVES. It’s a a clear symptom / red flag of the competency crisis setting in. The developers themselves no longer have the ability to keep track of and properly develop / manage the complex ruleset so they dumb it down progressively. Model wargamers are NOT casual gamers, NEVER buy that bullshit narrative that someone is trying to attract “casuals”, it’s the DEVELOPERS who are the casuals! It’s not just GW, it’s the ENTIRE gaming industry. The same reason why studios can’t make real AAA games anymore inspite of ridiculous budgets is the SAME reason why GW keeps getting worse and their games - the quality of the developer pool has dropped off a cliff.

I'm sure good players will pull off some insane plays with her free movement but in a game largely lacking objective-based play I don't think she's as good as been anticipated on the field. I still think she might see a lot of play in competitive lists because she is quite hard to kill if played carefully, given she gets to teleport back into human form when you kill the dragon, and that's potentially a lot of points denial over your opponent.
On the other hand the longma general guys, balloons and cannons are completely cracked just at base rate. It's very amusing to me competitive TOW is way more of a centrepiece game than AoS. I legitimately think there might be a competitive TOW list that is like:
>double lvl 4 shugenga>3 balloons>cannons to taste>minimum size unit of jade warriors to carry the anti-flying standard>all the rest of your core points in one unit of jade lancers with ambushers that use the balloon ambushers buff to stay off the board until as late in the game as possible to deny the enemy VPs

I'll have some extra models to experiment with once I get my battalion boxes, which should be fun.
That Jade and pink looks very nice indeed.

I know it's way too early to speculate, but I think GW realizes they can't push Stormcast anywhere near as hard as they push Space Marines, and they can't keep expanding the biggest army in the game even more.
>>95922039And why would I care?
>>95925422Zero chance they're not in the starter, but I think you're right about Stormcast not expanding forever if Sacrosant getting squatted is anything to go by.
Personally I think Stormcast not hitting SM levels of popularity is the best thing that can happen to this game.
>>95925447I had a vision. AoS 5e starter bad guy faction is Bonereapers. Good guy faction is Cities, but with a focus on Arch Knights. Arch Knights on foot, Arch Knights on Demigryphs, Arch Knight champion on Gryphon.
GW needs a mostly armored easy to paint good guy faction in the starter, and there it is.
Has GW ever done this much high effort photography on a product page on their website? These are taken from the battalion box. Seems like more than the white background AoS has always gotten.

>>95925643You know nothing child.
>>95925735>The entire range is still half island of broken toys as well, lots of old kits.Given that Old world is going to take those kits back at some point that's not a long term issue.
Not wrong about the ease of paint & play though, even if they make a box full of arch-knights at that point that'd just be stormcast jnr.
>>95925735>The entire range is still half island of broken toys as well, lots of old kits. That can easily be fixed by giving them a starter faction size range update and squatting the old stuff

But I'm not sure what that would be outside of Battle Priests. Flagellants would be an easy answer but it's not like Cities needs a second super cheap squishy melee infantry option
>>95925857It should just be an army of all black women, to match the theme

>>95925936Yes, and Cathay only solidifies it. The blacks in AoS and fantasy aren't there because it fits. It's done as a DEI metric. Hence why they have 0 blacks in Cathays range because having them would be disrespectful to Chinese culture (which they explicitly wanted to respect). They show no qualms stuffing blacks into Euro cultures. Keep that head in the sand and calling people who notice this " racist ". Doesn't change reality.

It's been explained over and over again that the lore of AoS leads to racially diverse factions, and we are several steps removed from the European inspirations of the factions so complaining that they don't match the racial demographics of IRL countries is very silly.
But still, these guys made racism their personality so we keep going over this dumbass argument over and over again in to infinity.

What are the sizes of the miniatures? Are they to scale? Which are the largest? I'm referring to the AoS miniatures, in case you're wondering.

>>95927516nah you could probably make any of the armies that have a sort of traditional army build work, like slaves to darkness, khorne, bonereapers, etc. cities and LRL are just the two most obvious, but i would actually say cities isnt even that great because it doesnt have a good proxy for miao ying.

Lumineth fit better than cities for Cathay proxying I think
Jade warriors = wardens
Jade warriors 2h option = bladelords or stoneguard
Jade lancers = dawnriders
Cannon = ballista
Banner guy = banner guy
Horse guy hero or Longma = lord regent
Terracotta giant = maaaaybe cow mountain if it fits on the base, if not then mega gargant mercenary.
Lantern = terrain feature
Yiao ming = slap both versions on the same base and you got a better Teclis.
