As for Hildy that is a road one of said friends and I are considering but I’m not sure how best to abuse that. Dark Knight's Greatsword is theoretically a "Pay 3 life: Draw 3 cards and put up to 3 lands from your hand onto the battlefield tapped" once each turn in Gitride. Creates a (pretty crappy) body when it comes in that you can sac if you don't have anything else. Low enough cmc that it's not hard to get onto the battlefield even before Gitride comes down. You can also put it onto Gitride if you need to push damage past big butts or go for a player kill.
I dunno. Seems alright. Only costs like 4 cents.

As the Gitride player, definitely not. Gitride as a deck is entirely dependent on getting a 5-mana 6/5 through combat in order to do anything. Someone playing a 7/7 is enough to completely halt your gameplay until you can draw into an answer.

I just like Gitride because for $20 you can just fill the deck with fatty-with-downside creatures no one else wants, put like 50 basic lands into it, and you're good to go for the most part because Gitride is broken.
Jenova has a way more functional gameplan.

I have Golbez, and I have to tweak Ureni some more. After that I only have 1 slot for Rakdos and I'm terribly torn between Kuja for Wizards or Garland for Knights. Then if I don't do Knights with Garland, I might have to do them aggro in Boros, which I'm not even sure who I'd have in the CZ for that. Then there's Rydia Sagas or Balthir and Fran Vehicles (I have some cool vehicles so it could be fun probably). And despite all that I still have 2-3 deck slots left to pick out things I wanna make that are different from those. Land bases are expensive and the more overlap between all of my decks, the more copies I need of certain lands. A Rakdos deck is gonna need a lot of the dual lands I'll need in Mardu, you know? I have good Boros lands and good Rakdos lands, so if I make two separate decks, I dont have to acquire as much. It's also smaller card pools, especially for tribal decks so it's easier to make what I want.
Knights are one of my favorite tribes and it feels stupid not to have White in them, but because of Haakon and Syr Konrad, I love having Black in the identity. Orzhov is an option for that, but I've always wanted to use some of the cool Red Knights like Cavalier of Flame and multiple ways to give haste and buffs.

Yeah it's tough, Celes seems perfect because she's all the colors I like for them and rewards reanimation, but without 3 color I'm just making a slightly specific aggro deck. There's a lot of Knights in white that impart keywords, like Kinsbaille Cavalier, Dion, Moonshaker, Cavalier of Flame, etc so I could turn weak boys into strong combatants and just turn creatures sideways. One of my biggest pet peeves. I don't mind inexperienced players not knowing target priority, but in that situation they should just pick even if it would be suboptimal.
More often I see new players rolling dice to allocate damage because they're afraid of making someone mad and that's so stupid. This is where the difference in our philosophy lies. You are looking for the moment when the card design became so blatantly overblown that it is undeniable, which is an acceptable approach. I am looking for where virtually every aspect of the game (gameplay, lore, marketing strategy, internal philosophy, etc) started warping from what I fell in love with to what I now resent, and my conclusion is that it all stems from the move away from three set blocks. The hardh reality I've accepted is that even though there are cards from the few years in between ORI and WAR (and even some beyond that timeframe) that I appreciate and would like to keep around in this theoretical format, they must be sacrificed.

True, it would never be the only deck I take with me, just one to get a game in with once in a while. I thought about making ~15 card pool to swap in or out to pivot between edict and general aristocrats between games. I figure any Sephiroth list is going to devolve into something unliked similar to Kefka who might also be an ok option really.
Also looking at making a Zidane Blink/Theft deck with a sprinkle of group hug. Usually I hate theft style decks because the potential for cards to get misplaced but I figure "theft until end of turn" effects make that a lot easier to keep track of.

"shell" decks kinda go against the spirit of how I deckbuild. I start with a commander and a concept, grind out the synergies and thematic toys and then go back and pare down to fit interaction and staples. The goal is for the deck to first play fat and jiggly and then we put it on a treadmill until it can keep up with all the others.

The only thing I really carry over from deck to deck is manabase ideas and a few staples, especially if I have them on hand. Some lands I like better than others and I don't try to reinvent the wheel unless the deck requires a new kind of wheel.

Why are people so salty when it comes to mill? Most of the people that crack me due to mill don't even have consistent enough draw to get deep into their decks, and even with the orb in play they're still ending the game with most of their cards in their library. Milling doesn't actually affect the game as you don't know what's in your deck and in what order most of the time, it's Schrödinger's cat.

People tend to be overly emotional as they see the card the "could've" played hit the yard, but before it hit it, they didn't even know it was there.

Mill as a combo is different then just one card. If I see people being salt factories I just tell them they can mill from the bottom of their deck instead and it works fine.

How does this game keep selling more as its influence seems to keep waning?
The amount of people producing Magic art feels like it rivals that of Starsector, which is to say, almost nobody and it's AI art most of the time.
The amount of people I see at the LGS and online feels like it's shrinking. Players rarely stay more than a few months. I can pretty much name every single person that has been playing before Tarkir... in the Commander Discord server. Even if it's no longer official you would think that such a large server wouldn't be the size of a reasonably modest community in terms of how frequently people talk there.
I mean hell one of like the dozen active players there openly states he has only been playing since Bloomburrow. My LGS is even worse where like 80% of the games are FF precons against each other that I know won't stick around, just like Fallout when it was a ton of "Caesar" (House) modified precons that didn't last beyond MH3.

It feels like WotC doesn't really know how they want to spice things up in their own material which is pretty annoying. I at least enjoyed opening MKM even if it was dogshit limited but I really like graveyard/top deck manip cards and artifact token synergies and that set had a lot of that.
