>>Previous thread:>>95921624>Thread Question:What is the best/worst roll you've ever witnessed?
My mate just texted me today that he killed Fulgrim turn 1 with autocannon fire.
In a semi related post, it's funny to look back to when the codex for necrons dropped and people were sad that silvertide isn't as good anymore, when I've had a grand ol' time with 20 man blobs in this day and age.
>>95926224 (OP)>Thread Question:>What is the best/worst roll you've ever witnessed?Had a shokk attack gun roll hot in 8th ed and clean up 5 death guard terminators (I cant remember which type)
I love troops.
I love scoring objectives.
I love buying transports for my troops to get them to objectives faster.
I love farming faith points.
I love Objective Control 2+ units.
This post brought to you by the Battleline gang.
โThe cruiser-grade stardrive core had been reconfigured into an ad hoc weapon of mass destruction, rarely employed, save against the combative beโgel hordes or the devouring swarms of the yhe. The ionising radiation was powerful enough to penetrate planetary crust, boiling the genes of every living organism for three thousand miles.โ
>>95926224 (OP)>TQFrom a personal game? Back in 8th when World Eaters were just part of CSM, I had a juggernaut lord with the Axe of Blind Fury relic that turned him into a mini Kharn the Betrayer. Basically the relic amped up his strength, attacks and damage but you couldn't re-roll any misses, and more importantly, any miss rolls would hit a friendly unit instead. One time I charged him into a Space Wolves dread that managed to tie up earlier with a rhino to prevent him from falling back in the event he survived the assault. Anyway, I managed to roll all 1s, which went into the rhino, killing it instantly, which then failed the explosion roll on a 6 and blew up the juggerlord since he got softened up on the charge by some lucky overwatch. It was a humbling experience.
>>95926224 (OP)>TQI had a Chaos Lord with a jump pack running the Chain Lord set up (two chainswords, Ghorisvex's Teeth from Vigilus Ablaze (mortal wounds on 6+) and Flames of Spite Warlord trait (mortal wounds on 6+)) with the Mark of Khorne.
I had him charge my friend's Captain, expecting to rip him to pieces and get a satisfying kill with a bunch of mortal wounds.
I rolled all 1s on the attacks and then when his Captain fought back, watched as I rolled all 1s on his saves.
>>95926288you melted all your dice to plastic slag as an offering to the dark gods afterwards right
>>95926302Of course, it's the only way to appease them.
What custom objective rules do you play with in casual games? My group is wannabe sweats and I hate playing secondaries.
Hoping to finally arrange a game with new deck and try assassinate/no prisoners.
I am going to pick up a Solitaire to hang out with my Dark Eldar
Another Wolf Knight ready for Priming! How my peeps doing tonight, are we ready for the collage?
>TQ:
I forget how often it happens (I roll like dogshit) but I've seen so many 2s get rerolled into 1s in both 40k and AoS. I've failed multiple 3 inch charges too.
AoS:
>Unit hits on 2, wounds on a 3
>9 attacks, 4 immediately fail to hit
>the remaining 5 fail to wound
40k:
>Hitting on a 3
>roll a 2
>Command Reroll
>roll a 1
My Primus has consistently been a disappointment as anything beyond a reroll buff.
Also: is there anyone that uses HH terminators in 40k? I've heard they're too small, but I don't wanna pay like $140 for 10 Terms when the HH box has 10 at $100
>>95926366When is this collage thing over? I might get a castigator tomorrow if you guys don't mind adding a humble first attempt at a vehicle.

Many moons ago during a game of 4th edition my opponent had Eldrad Uthran in his army, and 3 turns in a row he rolled 2, 2, 12 on his psychic tests. So, the most venerable and powerful psyker in the setting shows up to the field in all of his finery and then eats his own head and explodes.
On a related note I once lost a 10 man Terminator Command Squad to a failed Deep Strike roll. Welp.

Just FYI, basecoating a maleceptor with a size 1 brush takes a really long time
>>95926468>4 models left in my combat patrol>don't have the motivation to paint them
>>95926519The irony of motivation is that the best way to get motivated is to start doing the thing you don't feel motivated to do. Sit down planning to paint for like 5 minutes tops and see how you feel once those 5 are up.
>>95926447There are a ton of interesting combinations. Junith Eritrea and an Imagifier in my list gives the BSS squad a 2+ save, 4++ invuln and -1 to be hit. Palatine + Dialogus in a BSS squad like anon said lets you take a 1 on a miracle dice and make it an automatic 6 for the multi melta so it automatically wounds with the lethal hits from the Palatine and then the high AP of meltas means its almost guaranteed huge damage. Hospitallars are really good, but its true the unit usually gets shot off the board quickly. That said, if also means they HAVE to commit to wiping the squad out, because 3 sisters is 30 points regenerated which is pretty a good swing in your favor. She basically pays for herself in one activation.
Palatine + Novitiates is another really fun combo, a smash captain style build where you get lethal hits from the Palatine and rerolls from the novitiates and get to scout up the board quickly. Half the sisters detachment have an enhancement that pumps your melee attacks which scale insanely well on Palatines. I even had one once charge and finish off a Stompa for 7 wounds.
Palatine + Repentia in the penitent detachment is amazing and blends pretty much anything in the game that isnt a knight or a ctan.
Sisters characters are overpriced, but still very good. Dialogus is kinda OP at her price point.

I really missed out on some great stuff. It's really sad to see what this hobby has become, or rather, what GW has become
>>95926927>chaos>professional armieslmao, chaosfags
>>95926631I imagine it was someone at GW thinking "well if we cover the hooves then people can't tell they have them" which is kinda retarded, but I get the reasoning. Either way though logically they should have at least some fucking lower leg armor if not some kind of shoe.
>>95926953>all that space marine armor, logistics and space fleets just happen to be looted like orks, and haphazardly slapped together by only the 1%not really bruh, chaos legions are still leagues ahead of the guard
>>95926964looted, handed by demons, or by the darkmek, yes, less than the 1%
chaos "soldiers" and chaos "marines" are raving madmen, not professionals
orks have better industry than them
>>95926946>it contains rules for kill team, narrative campaigns and had plenty of pictures of conversions to represent the upgrades available in these systemsNobody played that. Almost nobody built custom terrain.
Meanwhile today GW has a hugely popular Kill Team game, publishes several narrative campaign books per edition, and sells of thematic terrain ready to use (if you have the money). Fans back in the early 2000s would have loved all this, and in fact they were the ones pushing for it and other stuff like the HH.
You're just a hipster fake grog with rose tinted glasses and pretending to have just discovered 4e. Not that 10e is great, but that's another matter.
So, what's next in your tired routine? "Nobody played with named characters"? lol
>>95926971I bet you believe they're all chained up waiting to adorn their armor when their master says "go".
You ever upkeep a gun or anything akin to it? Maybe a car?(without taking it to someone else)
>>95926946>It's really sad to see what this hobby has become, or rather, what GW has becomeIts hardly GWs fault. They release narrative stuff all the time (in fact, the newest KT box will include yet another booklet for narrative campaigns, even solo mode is possible this time), and the players just care for competitive 2000pts 40k battles.
You did not miss out on anything with 4th edition, because back then this stuff got ignored, just as it gets ignored now.
>>95926953>Chaos has professional armiesYeah anon they die. Daemon worlds in the Eye that is full madmen still have the industrial base to build fleets of starships and arm and armour space marine warbands. Bloodpact is a professinal chaos army on par with the better IG regiements. And they're just one type of a limitless amount. The traitor legions and the black legion are professinal armies. Dark mech has professional dark skitarii armies. Yes Chaos has professional armies
>>95926983>I bet you believe they're all chained up waiting to adorn their armor when their master says "go".An enormous amount of them actually unironically are, and not just the guys who adorn armors, but also the warriors
>>95927018>still have the industrial base to build fleetsNo, they don't, they rely on stolen and ancient vessels, bloodpacts are a bunch of cultists, the traitor legions are made of lunatics, not sane warriors, and the darkmek doesn't have skitarii.
Chaos isn't professional by any stretch of the word, you're thinking about how they might have been, once, for 5 minutes, at the beginning of the horus heresy before they all devolved into cocksleeves for demons.
>>95926979>>95926996It's a bit reductive to say no one did it, innit? I am not going to argue that it was popular or anything, because it certainly wasn't, BUT the option was there and the fact they even bothered with it showed they had a vision of the game that they wanted to offer.
I dunno about you, it could be newfag syndrome on my part (I got into the game late 7th), but looking at some of the old rules, there is just something about seeing rules written in a way that tries to make your 40k battle feel like an actual 40k battle. It could also be the part of me that loves crunchy historical games so that is a bias on my part.
>>95926946>>95926996> back then this stuff got ignored, just as it gets ignored nowCorrect. GW does try every edition to sell narrative campaigns. White Dwarf also has lots of battle reports nowadays.
But nobody gives a shit since the tryhard tournament mindset became the default across the fandom.
Dark Eldar refresh is coming. I can feel it.
>>95927035>GW does try every edition to sell narrative campaigns.Maybe they should try to sell GOOD narrative campaigns.
>>95927032I agree that rules writing has gone to shit. It was never good, but at least it was readable.

>>95927035I have my own problems with how they handled arks of omen and narrative games in general the past few editions, but I can commend them for trying. Just sad we won't get anything on the level of Imperial Armour again.

In all honesty, i'll order a 2nd set of those. Printing quality is meh, but the same set costs like 25+ on Etsy, and there i have to pay for shipping, on Temu i dont.
I expected nothing when i ordered those for the lulz, and got a set of somewhat decent ruins for the price of half a menu at Mcd.

>>95928122>Tau put mariens on the โkill on sightโ listLore is what I make of it.
And I say Tau Marines are real. They are made from estranged chapters that the Imperium half abandoned and stopped supplying so they started to work with Tau controlled human planets as mercenaries originally to get supplies and facilies. Eventually they picked up on the Tau idealogy as well and are part of the Empire now.

There can be rodent-like "space skaven" minor xenos but again: they would lack key characteristic ques of skaven and frankly GHR is nothing without skaven

I wish GW had better/more creative writers where each faction had its technological differences more fleshed out. Like Admech and Votann I feel do a good job of this, admech is a cargo cult for the same tech Votann use, and the LoV have the tech but their super ai computers are overloaded with too much information to be able to draw anything beyond surface level info from.
Elves and necrons are both 'more advanced than anything humans have' with necrons being the top of the tech hiearchy. How would you seperare the darkmech from the forge of souls tech wise? Seems like they would be stepping on each others toes a lot. They are pretty much the same in function to, darkmech arms the mortal chaos armies, using daemons, while vashtorr and forge of souls arm the daemons, also using daemons

>>95929693>>95929697>>95929720>>95929722It's such a bizarre choice for the game overall and I don't like it. Even the kill team itself along with others don't really have choices anymore.
>>95929743Blame the Chapterhouse lawsuit
>>95929750How about I just blame GW for making shitty rules and kits?
>>95929743GW is so greedy that they have effectively told kitbashers and old players that if they don't conform to their new style of consooming their kits that they will not be missed. No options cannot exist that doesn't already exist in the plastic sprue. You can't properly portray warhammer in shows or games other than showing off a 1:1 copy of the miniatures and nothing else. If GW's characters don't look exactly like the model then it doesn't exist.
>>95929782I have noticed that with a lot of art and other media they do and while I get that they'd want to show off the miniatures being cool, I feel like the old way of doing it was just so much better.
>>95929789Nothing can be original in Warhammer anymore because it either conforms to the established characters and other miniatures (terrain, vehicles, etc) or else you run the risk of another copyright infringing model company making models for characters that don't exist in the tabletop. When I say Warhammer is becoming Soulless, it's because they're afraid of showing anything else but Calgar or the same 5 action posed primaris marines.
>>95929637For the Agents it took almost a year. Scouts took like 6 months and it was heavily demanded for 40k players as this one will be. It can be awhile. Think of the dual box as the "early access". Shortest I've seen is like 2 months longest is probably agents.

>>95930085That's literally all of what GW has been doing for over half a decade. They're so bent on endless consooming that new editions only last 3 years before being replaced with the next one to be excited about. I want you to actually count how many times we have seen them change the rules in the past decade alone. 40k got through 4 (7th, 8th, 9th, 10th), Sigmar went through 4, Kill Team went through 3, and Horus Heresy recently got their third new edition.
>>95930152>goalposts shifted

>>95930152Yeah. I find it very interesting too that 3rd and 4th are almost universally considered the best editions nowadays by the grogs and those two together lasted a full 10 years, and 4th barely changed much from 3rd even during the switchover.

>>95930166I understand that, but the problem is that they plastered those beardless heads all over the marketing pics, and in the art, and it gave a general sense that if I supported this faction at all with my money and it was successful they would take that as an okay thing and do more hideous heads like that in the future. Related, is Victoria Miniatures the only place to get Mordian Iron Guard bits? I'm on the fence about starting a real army, just want to have some to sit on a shelf for now.

For the price of a Combat Patrol I could get three or four boxes of the different Grognard infantry/Cav/Heavy Weapons and be set aside from tanks. I think I might honestly give that a try.
>>95931449I think their Raumjager lineup is also very solid if you want to run them as Cadians.

What happened to Roboute? I thought Primarchs didn't age.
>>95931595>cum rhinow-what?
>>95931621Stress, and lots of it
>>95931592I do, but it was not where it was supposed to be and I am hunting for it now. I was picking up the old Omnibus editions as often as possible when I was younger and was given a few as gifts. Have eighteen of them at this point, but only am missing Path of the Dark Eldar. Fucking frustrates me. Time to wrack my brain trying to think of where it could be.
>>9593141910000 percento, aniki.
What about Darker Eldar?
They're basically regular Dark Eldar but just slightly bigger and better in every way
>>95931621>I thought Primarchs didn't age. That is literally the opposite of what the lore says directly out of the main fucking rulebook.
>>95931694>Expecting these people to read
>>95931694>last of their kind finally died after fourteen hundred yearsheh
We frigpostan, we frenspostan
>>95931694Grog fluff no longer canon since primaris
Dreadnaught Dorn the Primarch of the Black Templars is next trust the plan (fists are fags and he knows it)
>>95931694>>95931705This says nothing about aging. Only that they are not immune to being killed. No Primarch died of old age.
>>95931715dorn despised the black templars
>>95931714If your argument is that "it's not canon because Guilliman and the Lion" be aware that both the Ultramarines Codex and the Dark Angels codex in this very same edition as the lore I just posted revealed that they were actually still alive in stasis. It's been set up for that entire time. Also this is only talking about Loyalists, the Daemon Primarchs were around even earlier than this.
>>95931716Anon what do you think "long-lived, but not immortal" means. You are just illiterate.
>>95931720He accepted them in the end bwo
Also the modern fists aren't even his original sons so there's no kinship anymore.
>>95931735they have dorn's geneseed
that's all that matters
>>95931735>Also the modern fists aren't even his original sonsYes they are. They still used Dorn's gene-seed to replace them.
>>95931733That they live for an indefinite period of time but not immune to death.
Custodes are said to reach healthy middle age and then their aging process freezes. Primarchs are more advanced than Custodes.
>>95931621>every single primarch has aged>thinks primarchs dont age????
>>95931694This hasn't been canon since 1992
>>95931757No, the term "biologically immortal" literally means "doesn't die of old age", whereas the term "long-lived" means "lives a long time, but not forever". You are illiterate.
>>95931772The book it's in was published in '93 and there was no retcon in any other book written by Priestley.
>>95931782Priestley isn't the be-all and your cope won't change that.
>>95931775Long-lived just means lives for a long time. Not that they have a lifespan. Eternity is also a LONG TIME.
>>95931787>the man who invented the Emperor, the Space Marines, the Primarchs, and all of their lore, and wrote the first three editions of the game, doesn't decide what's canonLol
>>95931800>the "man" who quit and ran off to make the slop that is bolt action doesn't decide what's canonCorrect.
>>95931800Yep. In one of his interviews, he said that he doesn't follow modern 40K because it branched off from his vision for 40K. So not canon to the modern setting we are discussing.
>>95931809>stopped working for the company when it went to shit and got taken over by soulless shoe company managers with zero creative bones in their bodyThat's based actually
He still decides canon
>>95931813That just means the modern setting isn't canon, anon. Defeated your own argument.
Everyone knows everything post 4th edition is nu-lore ignore.
>>95931644Those are called Crone World Eldar

Which one of you smelly fucks cleared out my LGS of all their Death Guard stuff?
They still had a battleforce box a week ago now all they have is a single box of Plague marines and 4 fucking Miasmic malignifiers
>>95931870No but seriously I think they would make a cool Kill Team. We don't need a full 40k range though.
Exodites on the other hand deserve a full range. Actually a travesty that we have Space High Elves and Space Dark Elves but no Space Wood Elves 10 fucking editions into the game.
how bunga is full khorne daemons?
>>95931872The thread has veered from pattern's course...
>>95928603It's very much GW just cucking certain armies because some just cannot fucking deal with any amount of tanks meaningfully while handing out retarded undercosted units or easy access to retarded buff combos like candy to other armies. There's shit like 165 point cadian castellan kasrkin 11 man squads that get the most retarded amount of buffs ever with them having any 2 combo of a space marine saves of 3+, a ballistic skill of 2+, or getting an extra attack on each gun thanks to their double orders rule that's not even adding on to the fact that the squad gets -1AP on their lasguns, 2 plasma guns, 2 plasma pistols, 2 volley guns, 2 power swords and sustained hits 1 for their guns, being able to shoot after falling back and if your playing combined regiment you also get lethal hits vs infantry. I guess you just use vehicles? But guard also gets 145 tank hunter leman russes that basically deal 7-12 damage if they land their shot and still pack a lascannon and 2 heavybolters/1 heavy stubber.
>>95931881Harlequins are the third kind in 40k
>>95931900Harlequins are like one unit and a handful of characters and are basically just part of the High Elves list.
>>95931881Exodites don't leave their maiden worlds so giving them a full range is kinda retarded

>>95931991It is a game to the single player that becomes the Solitaire, yes.
>>95931940This is a blatant lie that's been disproven before with literal direct screenshots of text from the lore, don't make me dig it up

In your local scenes, how do people feel about playing with Legends stuff? I am building an armored CSM list and would love to have a Deimos Predator in it but it is a Legends unit.
>>95932250Nigga just run it as a predator, no one will care
>>95932250I've never had an issue, but almost exclusively play with friends these days. That said even when I was playing pickup games people were pretty cool about it, but that was back in 8th when legends were very new, so people were pretty accepting of whatever. That other any makes a good point though, you could just run it as a normal predator and it'll be a little better in game.
Any good Inqusitor books? Bonus points if it's an audio book.
