Wanted to pick up a promo Tifa from the Vegas event this weekend. Lol that isnโt going to happen now. Fucking FF fans are absolutely rabid. Mtg hasnโt seen something like this as a tcg in a long while.
Holy shit Wizards is so fucking dumb for not banning cards before Final Fantasy hit shelves

Come back to Premodern, /tg/.
Come back home...

It's spoiler season! Be excited for the next set!

Fable of the Mirror Breaker?
Thatโs what I thought, kike.
>don't print hate for retarded new cards and strategies (oy vey we can't have any counterplay cards to players getting energy that would be yucking their yums -Jew Nosewater)
>be surprised when every format turns into players choosing to run the best deck (that has little to no counterplay or interaction)
Wow. I'm surprised. I thought Mark Rosewater was my greatest ally. How could the format be so bad AGAIN? It can't be the philosophies of card and set design are massively flawed. Oh those players are just solving these puzzles too quickly!
>>95932852Powerful white cards?
Mark nose water here, the top 8 result clearly represents how committed the players are to their flag colors! Players with red flags are playing mono red while players with red blue flags are playing Izzet! It means Standard is flourishing.
>>95932877>Nosewater literally outright says white can never have STP level interaction despite the red state of standard >You now remember all colors are designed at the same time meaning the cuckification of white was intentional TALL ASK, GOYIM
>>95932877>I thought Mark Rosewater was my greatest ally.kek
>>95932852At least seeing the smug Izzet faggot get served in the finals was nice
>>95932852This is funny because they made sure the keys were full of mirrors just to make sure the finals had 2 different decks instead of a mirror.
>>95932876Funny enough those formats were better than current time standard.
>>95932960I still donโt miss Lurrus Flash Rogues
>>95932852>winning play was Self-Destruct while wearing an FF5 shirtvery kino ending
Just learned that the EoE bonus sheet will only have lands on it.
This means no bonus sheet bombs shitting up the draft format (shouts out to the guy who killed me with a turn 1 Ragavan in FF draft).
Best news I've read about this set so far.
>>95932960>they made sure the keys were full of mirrorsIsn't it supposed to be random? I thought that's how it worked.
What are the chances it just happened to line up that way?
>>95932876>FableNeon Dynasty. Not in Standard chud. Red got RAPED by rotation OBVIOUSLY and needs more power cards because it's not seeing enough EDH play!!!
>>95932983This is not even the worst standard deck from the last 6 years ("not want to play against that shit" wise).
Someone told me today you can tap the same City of Brass multiple times with a Rishadan Port to deal damage. Is this true? Can you cause a tapped permanent to become tapped?
>>95932900>wtf why can't i have the single most powerful white card ever printed capable of singlehandedly making the color meta???and we'll reprint brainstorm and fireblast next, right?
>>95933196No, not true. If a permanent is already tapped tapping it does nothing. The effect resolves but no city of brass triggers are created.
>>95933201>wtf why canโt I just keep ruining standard with endless kikery and never be challenged by equal power in white?Whatโs that? I canโt hear you over the blatant hypocrisy, shekel-sucker
>>95933196Whoever told you that is a massive retard. Have him explain WHY it would do multiple instances of damage. Though you might need to put his helmet on first.

>>95932720 (OP)>Favorite Beast creature?never being topped, ever
Rather than premodern Iโd like to see a "magic as it should have been" format, with only those sets legal that were in Standard at some time, and all planeswalkers or maybe just all mythics banned.
>>95933854There have been several attempts. Unless you are content with only having a handful of players, it doesn't seem worth the effort. As a serious mtg player, I would suggest removing mechanically-unique UB and all non-Standard sets to clear away most of the garbage for the ideal mtg card pool.
Since I've given up on being a grognard, the following formats have covered pretty much all the bases for me.
>Vintage>Legacy>Canlander>Vintage Cube>Premodern and Old School>cEDHHaven't played Premodern or Old School in paper yet, but have one irl friend interested in at least Premodern. Worth noting I don't own any authentic cards and proxy everything in paper. Colored printer paper works just fine, but if the deck is played enough, I get some chinaman versions shipped to me. Good luck anon.
>>95932852This is the best outcome that could have happened. WotC shills and red down players have absolutely no legs to stand on anymore. The only issue is that any bans they will do won't go far enough to fix this fucked format
>>95933842yes, the reserved list is problematic. Ban each non reprintable card?
>>95933783Surely this time the audience will embrace it!
>>95933935You're replying to a post about Premodern. You do understand banning RL cards means the format is no longer Premodern, correct?
>>95933424It's good to see authentic representation like this, I've been saying Boros players are fags for years.
>>95933854>Iโd like to see a "magic as it should have been" formatthat format is just 25 bolt and 15 mountain
I havent watched the finals yet, was it better than the Overlords mirror we had last time?
>>95933854>>95933914Someone should make a new version of block constructed, except decks from other blocks can play against each other. It would probably take a long time to figure out how many cards need to be banned to allow for most blocks to have at least one playable deck, but I feel like the effort would result in a fun and rewarding format.
>>95934116But we havenโt had any blocks now in quite a while..
WotC still hasn't emailed me info about the Final Fantasy boxes I won from the direct
anyone else?
>>95934131People are still in the dark about their Foundations boxes. I'd say you're just fucked.
>>95934124>But we havenโt had any blocks now in quite a while..I donโt really see excluding the newer sets as a bad thing, but if you want, you can allow any non-block standard sets as long as they only use that one set. I feel like the modern sets would still have an insane advantage, but maybe the small card pool would even that out.
>>95932852>Multinational company leading one of the most popular TCGs in history is full of stupid bastardsSeriously how could they be so stupid specially when they had to shill the first UB set? Few FF cards saw play and the tournament outcome was one of the worst in history with, for NO ONE SURPRISE, two red decks being over the rest of all the meta.
don't worry about meta status bros, soon he will make some bullshit viable.
>>95934163>>95933786Can't help but compare these two as 'the card Wotc tries to push as a powerful chase mythic that gets overshadowed by the shit they made broken by accident'.

This is what happens when a lane is open.
What do I even cut from this
>>95934172Ugin is probably a better comparison. It was THE chase card during the reveals and first few days of Dragonstrom but got overshadowed completely by the stupid cutter
Pro Tour Top Seed needs to read the cards in his Red deck after winning
>>95934200Black waltz is debatable even in a proper Rakdos deck and is definitely not worth a splash. You also don't have enough artifacts to make Aerial unit reliable so you could probably afford to lose that. Warriors Sword and Louisoix's sacrifice are cuttable too.
>>95934214Couldn't have been better unless galuf's final act won him the game somehow.
>>95934200This doesn't look like the lane was open, this looks like you got hooked by a pass and cut vivi or something. You got no sahagins, no combat tutorials, only 1 thunder magic, and a lot of your cards are pretty shit. You might actually be short on playables, but I don't feel like counting. For sure don't run waltz, especially off 2 black sources. Sacrifice is also just heinous.
>>95932852FAST FACTS FUN FACT:
Magebane Lizard was the determining factor in the Finals.
RDW had a silver bullet against Izzet Prowess, but Prowess had no such card vs RDW.
I think, overall, RDW is the superior list but when you're the better overall deck that your opponent has a hard counter to, things don't go so well.
>>95934200Anon, they design sets for 10 people and draft pods are 8 people.
A lane is always open. In fact, a minimum of 3 lanes are always open. Don't pretend this is anything special.
>>95933457>Art direction for the entire set:>Just fuck my shit up senpai. Rainbows everywhere. Make it as generic as possible and vomit rainbow galaxy shit everywhere. Make it an eyesore. The worst eyesore you can think of. And ugly as shit, too. Also, more rainbow and galaxies and shit. And make sure to make it obvious you used AI because the galaxy spiral lines don't connect as they pass through the dude's arms. While you're at it, increase the saturation and make it even uglier.
>>95934364>And make sure to make it obvious you used AI because the galaxy spiral lines don't connect as they pass through the dude's arms.My absolute favorite part of AI becoming prevalent isn't AI art, it's people jumping at every shadow imaginable and claiming literally everything is AI.
It discredits the few things that are actually made by AI and will ensure anti-ai sentiment is always seen as fringe weirdo shit
>>95934200black waltz, aerial unit, queen brahne, rapier and ifrit are all traps. so is cerberus but I'd keep it for suprise blowouts with choco comet.

So many examples of bad design in nuMagic, but one that I particularly hate is the apparent psychotic commitment to making sure that no two cards ever produce the same token, even when they literally produce the exact same fucking token.
Kaldheim is the worst example of this, with some cards producing 4/4 Angels with flying and vigilance while others produce 4/4 Angel Warriors with flying and vigilance. Legendary shitpile, that.
1/1 Monk with prowess. 1/1 Otter with prowess.
Pilot that can crew vs Pilot that can crew AND mount.
It's getting to a point where extra decks of random ass tokens are getting larger than the damn decks themselves. This shit is such sloppy, lazy, thoughtless design that does nothing but make the game worse.

EOE's first side-story dropped. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/magic-story/edge-of-eternities-grasp-in-the-dark
>We're following a Kav named Farakatolar, a sergeant, as she and her squad go out to investigate a distant piece of Kavaron that broke off and drifted into the edges of the Sothera system
>Said piece contains a memorial vault (possibly), and one of her squad complains that there's more work to be done at home, why send them off?
>The squad starts bickering about the future of the system, but the argument's cut-off as Farakatolar informs them they've reached their target
>It's not quite a cube, not quite a sphere, and it's definitely SIZED like a memorial vault, but it's also distinctly unfamiliar to her
>She orders a scan of it, and the scan just returns white noise
>She decides that they have to go and investigate, naturally
>They land on the thing, drill through the outer wall
>She uses the Kav's ability to sense vibrations via their belly on the ground (this is just a thing they can do apparently) to determine there's something in a nearby room, orders a squad member to axe the wall down
>Said squaddie does, though the wall seems to react more like skin than actual metal to the hole
>Fara ignores that, enters the room, finds the thing, an orb
>The tech guy scans it, can only determine it's very dense with information, they'd need a more thorough approach
>The one who cut the wall down interrupts to point out the hole she made in the wall is now just wall again
>Fara orders her to cut through again, and she does, but with notably more difficulty this time
>Fara orders her squad to get the artifact out to the ship... But the artifact has vanished
>The one person she sent through the wall after the second hole radios in, but it's not great
>Aaand the wall seals again, right in front of them
>The squaddie cannot axe through it this time
>All of a sudden, the walls, and everything, all light up

>>95936157>We're following a KavThe term "Kav" really rings to me as a racial slur.
Proper names for things, especially peoples, tend to have more than one syllable. This is because the names for a people or group tend to be of the form (thing)+('man') or similar qualifier. That is to say, in most languages the place comes first, and the word for a group becomes place+affix.
Slurs, in turn, very often trend toward "proper name, but reduced to one (or fewer) simple syllable so I can spit the term at people."
Of course, any competent company managing one of the world's largest, billion dollar fantasy (lmao) IPs would certainly have some form of linguist on hand to solve these issues. Surely.
But no. Those fuckin' Kavs at WotC, I swear. Totally incompetent.
Remember how 1 year ago we had Nadu?
>>95936159It's a small miracle that at least they've kept the card back the same.
>>95936349To elaborate:
Kavaron is the homeland.
Kavoroni, or Kaven, would be the species from there.
"Kav" would be the slur-form of the species name.
This would be the case in almost all languages, substituting for their variant affixes.
Sloppy stuff, Wizards. Hire a linguist, you idiots.

>Cutter just sitting there spamming infinite haste 2/2s until I die.
>10 fucking turns of 2/2s that you literally can't do a fucking thing about
God almighty how the hell is this piece of shit card designed by retards not banned.
>>95939799They need to release thousands of cards per year, they don't care about tracking issue anymore, they need new mechanics to sell their next product, playtesters are only here to see if the set is good enough for limited
Paperbros.... I...... Come to arena already we have plenty of answers to cutter
>>95939992>answers to cutterThat is not an answer to cutter.
Go back to our containment thread, shill. It's not going to work.
>>95939992>go to arena to get away from cutter>get filled with a plethora of online slop that's even worse than cutterI think I'll stick with premodern.
>>95940018>I think I'll stick with premodern.Holy based.
>>95939992>cutter comes back tappedbros..................... we did it............
>>95939992You could have a spell that read
>Total Cutter Death {1WW}>Sorcery>Exile all nonland permanents your opponents controland it wouldn't stop cutter
I mean temporary lockdown is basically that, sure they can get it back with floodmaw but you know what the worst fucking part is? They don't need to
They will simply draw more cards, play more hasty threats and kill you.
You need to stick an authority of the consuls AND wipe all their permanents (and lockdown yeets your authority) AND you need a high noon AND all your hate pieces are vulnerable to their bounce AND you still need to win the game somehow
>>95940032>Cutter comes back tapped.Total cutter humiliation ritual.
>>95937820Waterbending X ->Whenever you cast a blue spell, draw X cards
Earthbending X ->Whenever you cast a green spell, put X +1/+1 counters on this creature
Firebending X -> Whenever you cast a red spell, deal X damage to target opponent
Airbending X ->Whenever you cast a white spell, gain X life
>>95940032>>95940018>>95940015Cutter getting exiled alongside all tokes and being 4cmc makes it unplayable, yes...
So is Tezzeret a good guy now

>>95940084The story has no stakes so no actions taken by any character are good or bad.
They're just things. Happenings. Faff, really.
mtg is shonenslop now so bolas will also come back in a supporting role
Alchemy is like the ultimate hook for fucking retards. Imagine having the stomach to eat digital only cards when this faggot designers already can't do it in paper only.
>>95939139You're forgetting that Nexus of Fate was a buy a box promo exclusive.
>>95940112Will Ugin r*pe him into submission again?

>>95940256I still can't believe from every fucking IP in the world they could add they had to go with this western chinese cartoon...
Looks like we're getting a saga.

Waterbend (You waterbend whenever you gain life)

Earthbending 2 (When this enters, distribute two +1/+1 counters among up to two creatures you control)
Earthbend (You earthbend whenever you put a +1/+1 counter on one or more creatures you control)
Heres your 10 pages of reminder text, bro
still shorter than dungeon reminder text

>>95938584>>95938853It's strange there are a million Slay the Spire clones on Steam and still nobody's made a proper successor to Shandalar or Pokemon TCG for GameBoy.
>>95940510It's because they're all trendslop and none of them understand the sovl of the card collector (also making more than a couple hundred cards is hard)
>>95940510Designed single player experience is difficult to create well. RNG roguelike slop is easy to create.
>>95939992>Come to ArenaYeah bro come to Arena so you can play against both Cutter and Dreadhorde Arcanist with haste and prowess

https://www.hareruyamtg.com/en/deck/995812/show/
Are these decks being carried by the FIRE cards and Geist of Saint Traft is just a fun-of?
>>95940587Do not use Legacy / Vintage as an indicator of a card's powerlevel as they are heavily nuanced formats where off-kilter cards can actually do work.
Example: Slash Panther was actually a go-to answer in Legacy and is 100% useless in all other formats.
>>95940602Reread my post, I'm not asking about Geist's power level.
>Want to build a life gain deck
>Screaming Nemesis exists
Welp, guess this entire archetype is just completely deleted from the game.
Thanks, Wizards.
>>95940817Come home anon...
Come to premodern.
>>95940829I will never play the cope and seethe format.
>>95940834>he doesn't like the pre-Mirrodin nose-dive MTG.
>>95940845I will not play the cope and seethe format.
I will not play a format with Reserved List cards.
>>95940587I wouldn't say geist is just a fun-of inclusion here, both lists are trying to punish the opponent for relying on spot removal to deal with threats and geist synergizes with that plan, the fact that cori can give it haste and planisphere can grow it to get through blockers is relevant too
maybe there's a more efficient way to build this deck without including geist, but these lists look good to me
Iโm thinking about getting into pauper, can someone suggest a decent Boros aggro budget build?
Also how the hell is the high tide deck so good? Like what is the wincon? Make your opponent deck themselves?
>>95940853You don't have to play reserve list cards. Some of the stronger in the format are some of the cheapest decks like burn, pit-rack, stasis, goblins, zoo, and clerics.
>>95940829White Weenies have fallen off the meta very hard.
>>95940817Just don't damage the Nemesis you silly goose
>>95935572Neobrand is simic combo. every card it casts is green or blue.
Amulet Titan (Minstrel) is simic combo, however many players choose to splash red in the sideboard for Firespout. I'm giving it a pass because the maindeck is strictly G(U).
Additionally, there was a Simic Midrange deck that went 9-1 in a Challenge about a week ago.
>>95934712You goddamn idiot. This is final form Aang. We're clearlying going to get 4 Aangs based on his bending progression.
