okay, this one is probably my fault, for throwing a little bit of other resin in the mix hoping to see if I couls save it and that giant failure in the middle probably happen because of that.
...
So dont mix resins like a dumb as kids.

Most resins are fine with mixing, many people do that to enhance physical features of cheaper resins.
Your problem is that you need to adjust your settings for the mix.

just a retard passing by. tell me, o ye tech savvy nerds, why is there no such thing as a 3D resin printer for under 100 burger bucks with 8k resolution? something like tinymaker, but giga nigga quality. is it because printers like mars and saturn are so affordable that no one bothers with smaller ones? if not for sale, then why are there no DIY fags showing the world how to make a miniature proonter? I researced prometheus, but I can't even wrap my head around finding the parts to build it. 3D resin printing has been popular for years now and it just keep growing in popularity. all I wanna do is print bits n shits and individual minis instead of giant armies and titans. why hast god forsaken me?

surely the size of printer solves the problem with space and postprocessing. like, instead of having a dedicated shed, garage or a nightstand next to my grandma's bed, I could instead have it on a small table in a grow tent that also has an air purifier.

Anyone know of files for an android/servitor or servoskull vehicle pilot? I'm willing to buy quality STLs, just has to thematically fit in Necromunda. I'd rather not make my vehicle gang specific by chopping up one of my gangers so I can use this with other teams. He will be on one of those bayou fan boats for a Sump Sea campaign, so a torso is really all i need, i can use plasticard to hide the legs

Resin printer takes up about a square foot of space on a desk or a table and you can ut it away in a closet or whatever when not in use.
post-processing is a jar full of Iso, and an empty yogurt tub full of hot water+hobby knife to remove supports.
Oh and a windowsill for the sunlight to cure your minis on a piece of cardboard torn off a box flap or whatever.

in the meantime I have indeed found some cheap anycubics locally in my shithole: mono 2 "outlet" for 150 burger bucks and mono 4 for 200. the price doesn't worry me due to resin costs over time, but do mono 2 and 4 have true anti aliasing for perfect smoothness? it baffles me. in fact what baffles me the most about both printers is how perfect the prints look like on jewtube despite resolution, pixel size, price, resin, etc. I just might bite the bullet with mono 2 (150 buckerinos), get DIY washing and DIY curing station and call it a day. can anyone talk me out of mono 2 without using "muh volume" as argument? and resin recommendations are welcome.

Do an exposure test to dial in your settings. It's a vary a bit if you change your resin brand, so try to stay consistent or keep notes/presets. You're going to get huge elephants foot if you set your first few layers on blast. Technically not needed. I usually run a few different exposure test models. For the XP2, there are holes in part of the model. You can dial in the settings so it's a clean hole all the way through, but also there's a way to level the plate a little more accurately to reduce the foot (Not sure if it's an issue these days, but if they're still recommending the paper method, there's a decent chance this method will work better for you)

No. But if you pick the mono 4 with the 8k screen and use the minimum layer size, you probably wonโ€™t need antialiasing. I have a mars 5 ultra and never felt the need to turn it on. The lines are so tiny, nothing like the 3d prints I used to buy.
>it baffles me. in fact what baffles me the most about both printers is how perfect the prints look like on jewtube despite resolution, pixel size, price, resin, etc.
They are very good. Not as sharp as the higher end products due to a simpler light but the details themselves are pretty much perfect.
>can anyone talk me out of mono 2 without using "muh volume" as argument?
No wireless functionality, small build plate, ACF release film (I think?)bad consumer support from anycubic, limited availability of replacement parts. The last two are one of the main reasons for going with Elegoo. Every printer will eventually need replacement parts and anycubic kinda sucks at this.

If i want base that is pre textured or has scenery I will Resin print but for most smaller will do resin.

Mostly use the FDM for blank or larger bases like the 30k / 40k knights oval 170mm bases need.

Is there some sort of screen between the UV lamp and the resin vat that is responsible for aiming the UV? Because the UV itself seems fine, I'm getting a solid bar of cured resin going across the build plate about a centimeter wide and just off-center.

Also the whole reason I bought the mono4 was because the UV lamp on my halot one died, is the UV lamp itself a generic type of bulb or special to each printer? It tends to be different between printers. You might be able to find a replacement part through some sellers on ebay that sell return units. You'll need to message them and ask. I did so when I was experimenting with a Mars 2 a couple of years or so ago, and was able to get some spare parts.

I'm not sure what the current trend is with the light collimation. A couple of years ago, some units started moving back to a single but powerful LED that used a lens. Before that, most units were using an array of lower powered LEDs with a bunch of lenses, but there were some QC problems with that design. I think more recently, units started using fresnel lenses to collimate.

Anyway, you might be able to find some vids or an online review that opens up the printer in question. Anyway, the failure is usually either the LCD or the LED.

It looks to me like the issue with me Halot is the UV lights, and the issue with the Mono 4 is the LCD, the Halot was printing detail fine but the prints got cut off at like layer 400, then layer 150ish then stopped printing altogether with no UV being projected, like the bulbs were flickering off before they failed entirely, whereas the mono 4 is projecting UV fine but is losing control of where it shines into the vat.

From what I can tell, your best bet is to run your dirty IPA through a distiller and discard the sludge left behind. I'm going to be ordering a countertop electrical one soon. I used to shine a UV light into the container to cure the resin bits and let the bulk of the resin settle to the bottom, but I want a better solution because the resin eventually gets saturated with microparticles that won't settle, degrading the IPA's effectiveness

I am designing a mold box that I want to 3D print and use for blue stuff casting, and I have come up with this design. It's basically an inner box with unconnected walls that slot into the base, that are then enclosed by an outer box that keeps everything together. On the top there's a push block so I can clamp it down and apply pressure to the mold.

How would I go about formalizing this design? I started with Autocad but it has issues parametrizing 3D objects, I want to be able to set variables so I can alter sizes and tolerances without redoing the whole thing. Any tips on materials or how to go about tolerances?

its probs fucked now doesn't seem like it's liquid enough to settle
In the future let the mix really settle, start with a week then adjust as you go for your particular mix of whatever brand solvent and whatever brand resin.
Once there's a layer of shit at the bottom and the solvent is near crystal clear, get that out in the sun, tank closed. It'll cure the layer of resin at the bottom while preventing the loss of solvent to evaporation
Ideally you have 2 or more tanks that you rotate between.
As you go you'll learn where exactly the point is when you can sun blast it

DIY is much less than 50% of the cost. You can get your station going for, like, $10. And they can be cheaper to maintain because you can use a small container to wash, saving on alcohol.
The bad part of DIYing is relying on the sun. You will usually overcure your shit.

If you want free, you can try blender, but you'll probably need to tweak some settings to make it function a little more 3D printing friendly, not sure. For something with a bunch of simple shapes, which you have, you can also try meshmixer.

I've done casting using silicon rubber molds and just used lego blocks sealed with a little bit of clay and petroleum jelly.

Local shop has a Creality R6, which seems pretty small with its 6inch 4k screen. they also sell an enclosure for it which is the big selling point as I live in an apartment and have cats.

Is this good enough for mini/warhammer printing?
I'm probably not printing any monsters in this thing but apart from taking longer than bigger printers it should be fine for infantry/cavalry right?

Encountering a problem I've never seen in Chitubox before and I don't know how to solve it. When I slice the current project I'm working on, Chitubox is adding 112 extra empty layers on to the top of the project. It's just 112 layers of nothing after the project should be complete. This is the first time I've encountered anything like this. And no, I haven't changed any settings. I've been using the same settings for the same printer and same resin that I've been using for a year. I even checked to make sure the settings were still the same and didn't get changed during an update or something and they are still the same.

Has anyone else encountered this with Chitubox before? I searched for a solution already and only found one other person so far that has encountered this, but no one gave them a satisfactory answer or solution.

Does it do it with every project? Have you tried a different model? Or do a repair on the models your currently slicing.

This is the only project it's done it on. And I run a repair on every model before slicing as a standard practice. I'll try a different model (one I know hasn't had any problems before) and see if it does it on that.

Plenty of official resin and plastic models don't react well to IPA stripping either. I ruined a couple of X-Wing ships because I forgot about them for just an hour and when I tried to scrub off the paint it and the softened plastic merged into coloured goo and obliterated all the surface detail.

If you're in the US strip with LA's Totally Awesome, in the UK use Dettol or Biostrip, elsewhere look for local equivalents.

Iso is what you use to clean your resin prints in the first place, it's literally the best cleaning substance to use on resin.

Quite a lot of it is actually one creator (bardinator) who is going scorched earth against multiple groups because someone once shared his mediocre designs in one of them which caused him to sperg out and he never calmed down after that. One of the groups admins suspected it was him so DM'd him the other day to call him out and he admitted to it right then and there.

When printing bases for minis, is it stupid to print the ones modeled as solid discs without concave bottoms (like the ones game workshop sells)?

Iโ€™ve printed a few bases and I donโ€™t know how much support they require so I have to sand them down a crap ton and itโ€™s annoying doing that for a set of 10. Also messy. Can anyone link a video or pic of how a base should be supported minimally but without messing up the print? I am talking about flat plain bases btw

It conflicts with basing and it looks really silly when you have multile minis striking a pose on rocks, especially if you have (in this case) more than one demon prince, if they're all standing flat on the ground attention isn't focused on that, but if they're all one leg up on rocks it's harder to notice other details.

I dont get it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a tactical rock, if used in sane measures. Its a super easy way to mark out a leader on a gaming table, and it allows for some interesting poses. Whats hated about them with GW is the fact they tend to use it on almost every miniature they release.

Because there would be internal meshes that I have been unable to remove. In fact I would have loved to be able to just attatch the tracks and "fill in" all of the interior, and after that I would just "make it hollow" again for 3D printing; so that I could have thicker walls and no internal meshes.

It is what it is.

Please don't listen to the contrarians. To reference what the other retard said: yes, fumes from your car are bad for you. They are diluted into the outside air. If you leave a car running in your small enclosed apartment without ventilation, you die. There's not enough data available to say how safe these specific fumes are, but you can at least be certain they're not good for you. That means you're a dumbass if you leave it running in an apartment without ventilation, but in the basement with a respirator is obviously better than nothing. Ideally you want something circulating air outside.

There's not enough information about the specific molecules to know health effects, but we at least know that resins will be mostly non-polar organic molecules. Using filters based on pore size might be counterproductive, but activated carbon respirators should be fine. It fits within a broad category that we know how to filter based on chemical properties, but with health considerations even increasing the length of a carbon chain by 1 in a well-studied molecule can completely change its interactions in your body. It's also impossible to say for sure something is completely safe for your body, especially without long-term studies, which is why COVID vaccine shills are retarded monkeys.

If the IPA has evaporated then there's nothing more you can do about it, just throw it away. if you want to recover the IPA, get an actual UV lamp, expose the IPA, mix up the cured part, then re-expose. Keep doing this.
If you cure it out in the sun, it will slowly cure all the way through form a gel with the IPA held in suspension. You need to keep mixing it to stop that.

Making a 3D scan of a miniature and selling/distributing it is not really any different from taking, say, a comic book, scanning it and distributing it. In most places you can do anything you want with your stuff. Get a miniature, scan it and then print as many as you want for yourself, but once you start distributing the minis or scans, it starts to become iffy.

you definitely don't need to "rely on the sun". that's like day 1, first printer, don't have a setup shit. you can do a lot better and it's still cheap.

>wash setup
a couple of those little buckets for pickling onions will do you. the ones you want have a little cage you can pull out so you can easily extract the minis while leaving the alcohol in the bucket.

>cure setup
get one of those UV lamps used for drying nailpolish and shit. you can find them stupid cheap if you look. take a box with one side cut away and line it with aluminum foil so the light reflects. make sure you have an airgap so you don't start a fucking fire. you can turn the minis by hand, or get a little solar powered turntable like they use in jewelry display cases (which will conveniently be powered by the UV lamp). if you spend more than like $25 total you fucked up somewhere.

t. been DIYing it long before wash/cure stations became a thing

Most slicers can work through stuff like that, but its better to be sure. Just slice it and watch the layers. If it has voids inside or some areas suddenly switch between white and black that is a bad sign, else it should work.

Though keep an eye out if the automatic supports work ok, sometimes I think the slicer can ignore problem areas and supports right through them.

The most obvious thing that would improve it a lot is trying to reduce the stringing. Probably by going a bit colder or tuning the retraction setting.
But what you can do easily on your part and would improve the model quite a bit is change orientation. Cut away the base, you can print one separately, angle up the head at least 45ยฐ, better yet make that nose point straight up. That should also make support removal a easier.

Also, the fastest way to remove those strings is to use hot air or a lighter, just don't set it on fire.

Gentlemen, a question. With Wilph / DivergingRealm getting hit by GW IP cunts, has anyone saved his Horus Heresy related stuff? A friend of mine was in the process of building his army and was buying STLs when James Workshop went nuts. I'd appreciate any help.

I got an FDM question.
I had a buddy print me some bases (large ones, like 50x100mm) they came out kinda warped. Is there anyway to get them fault and anything I can suggest to my friend to avoid the warping when he prints again?
Thanks for any help

What I do is:
>big bucket with methylated spirits
>small bucket with warm water for support removal
>small jug with 92% methylated spirits and a scrub for final resin removal (frankly unnecessary, just dipping them in alcohol always removes all the resin)
>translucent tub filled with water for curing in the sun

I'm gonna get a printer soon. Looking at all the yummy free STLs alone has me drooling like a goblin, but am I getting ahead of myself? Do you guys really print shitloads of units and bitz all the time and rarely buy actual GW kits, or will I find myself filtered by print and washing time?

i got a curing station and a 3d printer gifted to me on christmas so the washing/curing time never bothered me. as for the gw stuff i cant be arsed to spend like 80 bucks + shipping for a kill team when i can comfortably print at home. issue is that if you have no self control then you just end up with a pile of resin that goes unpainted like me

Yeah it would, itโ€™s just going to be more annoying. The news the printer, the more QoL stuff it has. You donโ€™t need to worry about shit like failed prints piecing your FEP because the machine just detects everything on its own.

The whole point of the printer was to reduce my hobby expenditures while increasing my hobby time, having one means I no longer have an excuse to pay extortionate prices for plastic, I now pay the cost of the materials, as it should have always been.

Because no one seems able to grasp the essential simplicity of what we do there has always been the search for the Achilles heel, the
one thing that Kirby and his cronies have overlooked. These are legion. I run through the list from time to time when someone says that
computer games will be the death of us โ€“ they are so much more realistic now! โ€“ again. This year it is 3-D printing. Pretty soon
everyone will be printing their own miniatures and where will we be then, eh?
We know quite a lot about 3-D printers, having been at the forefront of the technology for many years. We know of what we speak. One
day 3-D printers will be affordable (agreed), they are now, they will be able to produce fantastic detail (the affordable ones won't) and
they will do it faster than one miniature per day (no, they won't, look it up). So we may get to the time when someone can make a poorly
detailed miniature at home and have enough for an army in less than a year. That pre-supposes that 3-D scanning technology will be
affordable and good enough (don't bet the mortgage on that one) and that everyone will be happy to have nothing but copies of old
miniatures.
All of our great new miniatures come from Citadel. It is possible that one day we will sell them direct via 3-D printers to grateful
hobbyists around the world. That will not happen in the next few years (or, in City-speak, 'forever') but if and when it does it will just
mean that we can cut yet more cost out of the supply chain and be making good margins selling Citadel 3-D printers.
At the heart of the delusion is the notion that designing and making miniatures is easy. It isn't.

It's the whole thing, every notion was wrong
> 1 mini per day
more like 30-50.
>very poor detail
detail exceeds the level of GW plastic and forgeworld resin.
>only old models and only via scanning
the offerings of 3D sculptors outnumber the lifetime of GW/Forgeworld sculpts, maybe multiple times over.
>3d scanners won't be in your home
they're still expensive but they're not so much that it's totally unrealistic.
>if i'm wrong we'll be there selling citadel printers
Clearly that's never going to happen as citadel has the same reaction to 3d printers that vampires have to garlic, crosses and running water.

One thing the librarian did was increase the size. Which I think was necessary anyways, it was too small the first go around. Originally I down scaled it cause the raw stats showed that it was really long, but I forgot about the protruding cape/fur which makes the model seem bigger then it actually is.

Think ill first use it as a monster for oathmark

I went to a local wargaming group the other night and the boomer leading it seemingly wasn't aware of today's resin printers having far nicer results. Then again, he was mostly playing larger board games and perhaps not entirely in the loop, but I was a little surprised.

I have pulled my hair out searching for Steel Legion STLs for the past year, coming up with the same results, the same conclusion, and Imma say: DavikDesigns is good enough. Who cares if the coat tails are too short? Worst case ontario I will just stretch and chop some pieces to make them longer, or chop a chunk out of the boots to make them shorter, to give the illusion that the coattails are longer.
I wanna play Steel Legion and I wann aplay them NOW
