The new KO models are great, I wish they had been part of the launch faction. They really get across the piratey, whaling vibe that exists in KO lore but isn't always expressed clearly in the full boiler suit models

I think it's excusable with SCs because they're humans are we all know what a human looks like. I think when you create a force meant to be epic and larger than life, most of the battleline being helmeted and fully armored makes sense, with only some heroes exposing their heads. But KOs aren't humans and they're very individualistic, so the option would be appreciated at least. We know that many merchants in the past loved plastering their face on shit, and even in the modern day there are celebrity CEO's who intergrade their media personas into their company's brand, which gives KOs more incentive to show their face.

First off, much like this same retarded ass argument about the Cities range, the Kharadron are a faction of refugees. They fled to the sky to escape the Age of Chaos from all over Chamon, the Sky-Ports are vast agglomerations that grew over time. And some Sky-Ports have fallen and survivors fled to others. So there will be diversity in any given Sky-Port.

Secondly, Sky-Ports are, as the name implies, places of trade. Which are, in real life, places of great diversity because people from all over the world go to them! To trade!

And thirdly, these specific models are clearly trying evoke pirate crews or whaling crews. Which, in real life, were often very racially diverse! For fucks sake, when you read Moby Dick were you pissed off that woke SJW Herman Melville included a DEI character? Don't answer, I know that the actual answer is you've never read Moby Dick.

Racial diversity in Kharadron generally, and in these new kits extra-specifically, is fully supported by the lore and the real life inspirations. You make arguments about places of trade, using the real world as an argument for the diversity within the setting. The setting is not the real world, if you use the real world to justify the setting in context of diversity you are doing exactly what GW is doing. The reality is that the dwarfs are black skinned because this is the anglo GW DEI push.

They explicitly said they wanted to respect China and wrote about skin tones in regards to Cathay recently. Yet for Euro cultures in Fantasy they push blacks everywhere. They said in the Cathay posts how important it was for people to see themselves in historically inspired factions. Yet they still put blacks into French and German inspired nations. Because of their DEI ideology.

Cathay and their recent warcom articles are the smoking gun that puts to rest literally any explanation other than DEI initiatives for this crap. By your logic Grundstokk Thunderers would fit the same bill. Darkoath Marauders, too. Hell, even Chaos Warriors. They all have weapon options, too. These dudes are all equally uniform and there’s no distinctly different fighters like the Khorne dog dude, the Fyreslayer magamdroth skin wearer or egg carrier, the FEC gorillas, the Askurgan werewolf, the list goes on. And again, the number of them in the kit. 5 would not make a warband in any way. There’s a lot of IF’s that need to be true for these to have been a cancelled Warcry warband.
They COULD have been a cancelled/adjusted Warcry warband IF they included 10 models instead of 5, IF they had more distinctly sculpted fighters/roles besides weapon options(look at FS warband), and IF their included build options were more than arm/head swaps.
I’m begging you to consider something beyond what you’ve already seemingly set in stone for yourself based on literally just vibes alone, man. I get it they have the “warcry warband” vibe, but Occam’s razor points at them not having been intended for Warcry and IF they were, the change came down long before the molds were finalized.

Usually when I batch paint there comes a point where it becomes fun but so far it's been a real slog, even with contrast paint. I see some lists where people run like 30 or 40 ardboyz, so I'm wondering how people tend to paint these?

I still need to fix a bunch of errors after I apply the contrast, paint and drybrush the helmets, then wash the yellow parts with dark red then brown, then drybrush the yellow, then drybrush the black lightly, then varnish.

Was my first mistake choose black and yellow? Should I just pick a monochrome scheme?

nah, warcry boxes have more "specialists" and differing base sizes. rotmire creed is a good example. this big boy is the designated melee model while you get other smaller dudes that can mix and match blowguns, shields, or 1h weapons. Even this guy can take a net instead of a claw in the right hand.

Assuming the Namarti are about on the level of the slaanesh archers, one eel unit coming in round 3 would likely make the spearhead quite weak. It has a powerful hero, and eels are no pushovers, but it's kind of thin on units (especially if the archers aren't reinforcements) and shooting in spearhead is bad since the tables are so small. The eels are quite likely to run the risk of getting stuck if they charge in and the opponent has a debuff card like removing rend or the 5+ ward, and except the hero all the units are pretty squishy. Like the vigilant brotherhood sce one, the big mounted hero is going to be doing a *lot* of the heavy lifting.

They're a good contender, but I'm betting on zombies personally, it's a simpler enemy concept to sell an intro product with and they don't really have a range themselves but practically 3 tangential ranges (vamps, ghosts, ghouls) newcomers can get addicted to once hooked by the starter box and wave of products specific for zombies.

I'd argue ossiarchs make the most sense IF gw stops having stormcasts as the good guys in the box, because the moment stormcasts aren't in, but there's, say, dwarfs, then that's the moment for the enemy faction to be the elite few models that are easy to paint and don't feature faces and skin or too many different textures.
But as long as stormcasts fill that role in the starter product, then the enemy faction will have to be a horde faction of some kind to make the box feel like it contains a lot of miniatures.

Would be cool, not really asking for much. A 5 man 32 or 40mm troop type, about same size as the warcry guys with halberds but not the same look. As far as look goes I'd like to see inspiration from mir kainan. Rework mortek to be chaff (they kinda already are at this point), these guys are more like chosen or annihilators.

An upgrade sprue for mortek with ranged, or a whole new unit with ranged attacks. Could even be a buildout for the guys above.

After that I don't know. Something like monstrous cav or heavy cav. Kavalos probably shouldn't do as much damage as they do right now, we need a cheap fast MSU option and that's what they're supposed to be. They don't really do expansion based on what an army "needs", they just sell whatever looks cool.

There's no guarantee death is up next. If it is I could see vamps with another range expansion happening as well, or even fec. OBR are reasonably popular for people that play AoS, but I think vamps & nh pull ahead for people not actually playing AOS but still buying models.

I'm not too sure about smart, it is smart to stop pushing stormcasts because they obviously don't give the results marines do, but part of the appeal of cities is to be the quasi pathetic underdog, and that's not really the most widespread appeal, or the one that catches the eye on a shelf.
cities could work for a starter if, even just for the models of the starter, they focus on making them just the underdogs and ignore the pathetism of the common fat/slim/disheveled man.
For example if they made it all about arch knights, or hunters of the order of azyr, or veterans of some kind rather than the basic footsoldier or the self flagellating religious nutjob.

I usually shoot for around 3k pts. My absolute favorite armies I'll take to 5k or 6k, but when I start having to buy more than 2 or 3 of the same box I usually call it quits. I'm mostly a hobbyist who only plays 3 or 4 games a year, and duplicate boxes have diminishing hobby returns, past the 2nd or 3rd box it gets very "been there done that"

I adore the female Duardin models. It makes the armies more lore-accurate, it gives more visual identity and style to the army, it's more inclusive, and they just look really good. The Vulkyn Flameseekers are my all time favourite unit mostly because of the scalebreakers being really dynamic and beautiful sculpts with a distinct aesthetic, and half of them being women (Kyndledroth is cool too).

The diversity in humans is one of the things I really appreciate about the new CoS. Although the lack of Aelves and Duardin is a huge shame, the Freeguild really looks like an army consisting of a mix of all kinds of commonfolk coming together to fight for something they hold dear. The cities are supposed to be diverse, and now their models reflect that. Same with SCE and IDK.

It's something I hope they fix with a (potential) future rework for a lot of armies. Make the basic troops a mix of genders, and suddenly armies look a lot less monotone and more varied. I'd instabuy multiple boxes of Vulkites and Hearthguard if they were reworked to also have women in them.

I personally find those traditions uninspired, limiting and outdated. It's a huge waste of potential to just have armies be fully male for the sake of tradition. When it's used to tell a story (e.g. of oppression or sexism) it at least has a function.

But it's a fantasy world, and some of the reasons I like AoS so much are exactly because it doesn't cling to those traditions. It embraces diversity and cooperation, instead of the traditional 'these races hate each other because they are supposed to'.

And this doesn't mean I dislike Lord of the Rings or anything. I love it. But I dislike when other fantasy settings copy tropes just for the sake of being traditional. The lack of diversity in Middle Earth is also a product of the time (though Tolkien wrote some great female characters as well), and times have changed. I think it's amazing that fantasy and other traditionally 'nerdy' hobbies are more accessible and popular than ever, and the increasing diversity that resulted from (and even partially caused) those changes is a blessing.
