>>95938591>Sigmar’s appearance was, to put it briefly, unlike that of any other man seen in those days in the world, whether Cathyan or barbarian. The sight of him inspired admiration, the mention of his name terror. I will describe in detail this barbarian’s characteristics. His stature was such that he towered almost a full cubit over the tallest men. He was slender of waist and flanks, with broad shoulders and chest, strong in the arms; in general he was neither tapered of form, nor heavily built and fleshy, but perfectly proportioned – one might say that he conformed to the ideal. His hands were large, he had a good firm stance, and his neck and back were compact.>If to the accurate and meticulous observer he appeared to stoop slightly, that was not caused by any weakness of the vertebrae of the lower spine, but presumably there was some malformation there from birth. The skin all over his body was very white, except for his face which was both white and red. His hair was yellowish and not as long as that of other barbarians (that is, it did not hang on his shoulders); in fact, the man had no great predilection for long hair, but cut his short, to the ears. >His eyes were light blue and gave some hint of the man’s spirit and dignity. He breathed freely through nostrils that were broad, worthy of his chest and a fine outlet for the breath that came in gusts from his lungs. There was a certain charm about him, but it was somewhat dimmed by the alarm his person as a whole inspired; there was a hard, savage quality in his whole aspect, due, I suppose, to his great stature and his eyes; even his laugh sounded like a threat to others. Such was his constitution, mental and physical, that in him both courage and love were armed, both ready for combat.

>>95938745I just really like the wood elf mounted models. I'd probably want to run 2 units of sisters and 2 units of wild riders. I think in more casual games a bear kin glade lord on great stag or great eagle will probably make for an OK mini-monster lord without going to the full extent of a dragon too.
Can the sisters swap the spell they roll for a signature spell? Obviously plague of rust, fireball or wind blast are probably your go-tos if you can pick, but if they can slot in hammerhand as a last resort that doesn't seem terrible.

Hey guys quick update I fucked my wife and filled her up, I took her from behind.
Second arcane journal for Carthay is still gay though.
Question now that the dust had settled, sword and board for minotaurs to benefit from -2 AP on the primal fury or great weapon?
>>95939028how cancerous do you want to be? You can give minotaurs a majority save 2+ if you put a character in the unit and are willing to abuse motley crew.
>>95939028in the same way your wife cant have sex without facing away from you, no unit without lancers or GW will look at the minos. Since foerender also needs frenzy (solvable but more investment) I think its better off sticking with GW or 2HW
>>95939048That sounds based and fuckthatguypilled,
Explain how
>>95939077She was facing me when she took me down her throat god she's getting so good at it she can take it all the way now and your can hear that gluck gluck sound good shit,
How do you feel about MSU minotaurs vs a big block of 6? Kinda wanna run a 3x2 block just for the cool factor but it's probably worse
>>95939078Gorebull or doombull can get to a 2+ save. You can make it so every minotaur in the unit has a different save, e.g. champion with the blackened plate and a 4+, one with a shield and a 5+, one with no shield and a 6+. In this situation you can choose the majority save, so you can make it the hero's 2+.
If you want a bigger unit than 3 minos you'll have to include 2 characters with a 2+ though.
Outside of this I think primal fury gives minos enough punch but I usually include 1/3rd great weapons in the unit too just to punch above S5 if I really need and in case I don't trigger the -2.
>>95939091Please stop talking weird fucking shit about your wife btw.
What's the big draw for primal herd vs beastmen grand army?
The primal warherd seems okay. Primal magic seems pretty meh.
Is it just planting multiple shamans around a herdstone and spamming viletides?
>>95939078nta
Motley Crew says you use the majority armor save.
But the FAQ specifies what to do if everyone has a different armor save.
You use the BEST save.
I don't know the combinations but you have a unit with a 2+,3+,4+,5+,6+ and the entire unit has a 2+ save against shooting and I believe in combat too.
>>95939101Neither of the AoIs is really worth it but primal herd at least allows for funny magic spamming builds that will probably blow up on turn 2.
So lizard friends, is a giant bow or giant blowpipes the patrician choice in stegadon mounted warfare?
>>95939091generally more blocks is better, 2nd row of monsters is basically dead weight for their cost.
>>95939101>>95939126Oh wait, is primal warherd that one that gives you an extra 25pts magic items/chaos gifts and access to the WoC gifts section? That's the point if so.
>>95939126Fuck, I already built my list around primal herd.
Oh well, I'll give it a few tries and rework it in the future.
>>95939143Ah, thanks. My list is probably shit then. I took 3 primal warherds and just planned on charging up the board while spamming viletide.
>40k faggots broke the garden of morr terrain at the shop trying to balance their tanks and daemon engines on top of them
what the fuck is wrong with these retards man? now half the fences and mausoleums are missing spikes and detail
Huh, it's actually a split. The minotaur one is the one that lets you take WoC chaos gifts. The primal warherd one is the one that gives you 125/75 magic item/chaos gift allowance. And no gorebull BSB outside of the mino one, so there is a reason to take it even if you can fit your army list in the regular one with a doombull general.
You can make pretty nice beastlord builds in the primal warherd e.g. 2+/5++ with 4+D6 S8 AP-3 attacks.
>>95939154It won't be bad. Warherds are fine and the magic buff is strong if risky.
>>95939133i think even with the proposed poison nerfs the raw output of the blowpipes is better
>>95939189>trying to balance their tanks and daemon engines on top of themI am very happy I don't have to deal with 40gays waac shit.
What's the point of an Arcane Journal that doesn't have new units in it?
>>95939299Magic items and armies of infamy.
>>95939309Still seems pretty meh, not even crane gunners or grenadiers seperated out from the balloon
>>95939189This is why you should never donate terrain to game stores, only to clubs where you know everyone will treat it with respect. Hobby stores are always going to be filled with 40kids thrashing the terrain around, standing models on top them and not giving 2 shits about it breaking or looking good since 40kids view terrain as basically garbage that serves no purpose outside of blocking line of sight. Your beautiful terrain set and custom pieces to a 40kid are no different from a soda can or cardboard box

>>95939299Will it have special AoI units that you can easily convert, or will it be truly nothing?
So what are the builds or characters that could actually beat Miao Ying in a fight?
Do either Galrauch or Orion come close?
>>95939485Galrauch and Orion don't but a Bretonnian Duke with the KB/MS vow and/or a tooled-up Chaos, High Elf or Dark Elf dragonlord should all put the hurt on her. Not sure about the Wood Elf dragonlord but you can put a pretty good challenge-orientated build on him.
>>95939485How the fuck do you think Orion can do anything
>>95939485>>95939495She's rolling at 3s and 3s vs. the standard "dragon" body which usually lacks a ward save, so I think anything other than a mounted monster is losing. She definitely takes Galrauch apart, potentially one-rounding him with the stomps in play.
So let's see WH40k is getting space puppers, AoS is getting Steampunk dwarves, i guess HH will also get something before Cathay get their 2nd wave? or no?
>>95939513I dunno, I don't play Welves. I just know he costs somthing like 450 points.

>>95939525Yeah, empire models.
>>95939536empire models in HH?
>>95938964right here we go
so the plan is to make it out of modular 1'x1' tiles, with 6 raised for areas on land, and 3 acting as a canal
the raised areas will have a tunnel modelled underneath them so you can have more options of board layout in regards to the canal
red is stuff like docks and boats, a way to get across
green is stuff like houses, market stalls, statues, all that kind of good stuff (not a specific layout, I just put some shapes in)
hashed green represents a bridge that can be lowered to get across, or raised
good idea so far?
>>95938670Priming my stuff atm
From here comes the real work not sure how I want to do my wild riders. Thinking green hue like the studio with gold gues on armor weapons and red. Similar to my speed paint glade guard.
>>95939495*until the matched play rules hit
After I think only HE/DE and bret still win and even then it's not guaranteed she doesn't wall away next round and you get shot to shit.
Yeah she averages ~2 (1.98) wounds on Galrauch with her base attacks, although she does get worse in round 2 because no hatred. 1.48 wounds without hatred.
Stomps behemoth vs. behemoth lack AP, so Galrauch gets his 3+/5++ against her stomps meaning even though she's rolling 3s to wound she probably doesn't get there in 1 round. She's likely to kill him in 2-3 rounds, most likely 3.
Galrauch doesn't even average 1 wound per round against her in return, 0.83, but will probably overall still do some damage between his attacks and stomps.
>>95939566Pretty neat
I don't have Mordheim experience, just Necromunda, but more terrain is usually better and as you make it you can pull stuff out
>>95939583The naked chaos lord still has a 3+/5++ and potential equal WS to her. Like in round 1 she does 1.58 wounds to him and he does 1.48 wounds in return, discounting stomps, and then from round 2 onwards she doesn't want to be in that combat because she's taking more wounds than she's dishing out. That's with no magic items just the chaos hand weapon and shield.
>>95939630shes weapon skill 9 more often than hes 8 anon
>>95939649That's without WS8. Chaos lord hitting on 4s wounding on 5s, chaos dragon hitting on 4s wounding on 3s; Miao Ying hitting on 3s wounding on 3s and rerolling hits in the first round of combat. She only pulls ahead in the round she has hatred active.
>>95939656or magic or anything else: and how many points is the chaos lord btw?
she also hits first every round so assuming your maths she still wins more often than not
>>95939624yeah, this layout was originally planned for necromunda (with trainlines running through the middle), but I thought a canal with boats for mordheim would be a better idea for it
>>95939669I don't think Mordheim relies too much on verticality so you save yourself a bit of a headache there
>>95939668The stomps add a really random variable to it because the chaos lord can roll 2 and Miao Ying 6, or vice versa. That chaos lord costs 482 points. I don't think she does win assuming they stay in combat till one dies: barring luck with the stomps, she has 3 less wounds than the CL.
IMO Miao Ying is more a busted unit for her ability to leave combat, heal and teleport 6" than for her raw killing potential. You can bring killier stuff for similar points in the game as it is currently.
>>95939077Foe render doesn't require frenzy, it requires primal fury.
>>95939668>>95939703She goes down to 1.19 wounds from her attacks from round 2 onwards, vs. the chaos lord static at 1.48. He can afford the MoN to be somewhat more resilient, too, although it's gotta be pretty small change overall.
>>95939396The chorfs, bull centaurs, and artillery are bad. The good lists are 2 monster mounted characters, hobgoblins, black orcs and 2 iron daemons. You can make good lists with them but they don't run how I would like them to.
>>95939703>>95939721both of these assume she isnt casting magic, nor hitting with magic missiles etc
its just funny someone is shilling her as not that busted when she can still looks good next to a premier combat lord with minimal effort and still can do a shitton more.
>>95939707nta
I'm regretting going DHW reading this chain
>>95939707i always get it mixed, still a 56% chance of ap-2 vs 1 attack or S7 ap-2 always to me is a no brainer. I'm playing beastmen i dont want my guys being fat ironbreakers i want murder
>>95939740Well, that isn't the premier combat lord. It's the barebones version of it. Yeah she can cast assailments in combat, but what assailment is really making the difference here? She can take hammerhand. She can take ancestral warriors from her own list, but it's a push to cast that at 11+ on a level 2. She doesn't get spectral doppelganger. She's not guaranteed to get anything else from the lore she does have access to.
I'm starting to find this discussion tiresome. There was another anon upthread or last thread saying she really isn't that killy, and I agree. Miao Ying is a very good unit that is hard to deal with, but if she's being leveraged as a dragon she's not being leveraged as a level 4 and vice versa. You can't just say she is the strongest at every particular thing all the time because that's not how the unit works, and every transformation means a turn off from combat because she cannot charge once she's done it. The Shugengan Lord is a more broken unit than Miao Ying is. The Sky Lantern is a more broken unit than she is. There's worse things to complain about in Cathay than the special character dragon, and arguably her strongest ability is the fact she's a very hard to kill 485 points which massively tilts the VPs in Cathay's favour.
>>95939776Minos are pretty fragile. There's a reason they allow you to mix weapons in the unit.
>>95939684yeah theres a little like falling from heights, climbing and I think a plunging fire rule, but nothing too great
houses with a single upper floor and the dip for the canal should be more than enough
>>95939784>chaos lord on a dragon isn't a premier combat lordwow. besides the fact definitely you're a retard, besides the fact you're ignoring stuff like her special missile on purpose, and the fact youre samefagging, the simply truth is that other things being more broken in Cathay doesn't change the fact Miao is way overpowered for what she does. the fact she goes toe to toe with achas dragonlord, while being a level4 (really level 5) wizard or I'm sorry level 3 wizard, with plenty of access to her lore (maybe you forgot that in her 3 pages of rules...). If you werent an obvious tourneyfag you'd see how this being not even the most op part of Cathay will make Cathay 100% a casual stomp power gamer army that requires the absolute best possible min maxed shit to even content with. I'm sorry, but the shilling overtime isnt fooling anyone.
To the anons arguing about DLords vs Miao
Don't forget to include she's a wizard who can go Illusion for -1 to hit and Spectral
>>95939797hmm so what do you think then would be the best mix? personally I'll stick with GW (mostly cause I aint going to buy more minos) I'm curious what the optimal loadout will be.
>>95939824She doesn't go toe to toe with the chaos dragonlord, she loses in combat with it. Her magic missile does average 4 S5 hits to it, which barely scratches it. She gets what 1 turn of that and if she wants to commit to that it likely gets the charge, which means the chaos lord gets lance attacks to tilt things even more in his favour. She's unlikely to be a counts-as level 5 or counts-as level 3 because the faction only has extremely expensive wizards and you need 2 wizards within 12" of each other to trigger the bonus, and if you're taking Miao Ying and a Shugengan Lord that's half your entire army already so you can't afford to have them be babysitting each other.
Like yeah Miao Ying probably does stomp in casual games, but the solution to that is not to bring Miao Ying in fucking casual games you whining cunt. And I would note she's really fucking easy to misplay with too, because her rules are so complex.
>>95939826She doesn't have Illusion access. Read the fucking rules you're complaining about. The Shugengans do but Miao Ying is restricted to Battle, High and Elementalism.
>>95939854>she loses to it! the missile sucks (ignores ap-3)>as long as I ignore all her rules (it will get the charge vs movement d6 or might of heaven, or the yin/yang winds, etc etc)>and never would someone bring that super undercosted lord i mentioned to boost her>plus other army buffs for the same points (fuck off shill, go paint up your 3rd dragon or some shit and fuck off. All you've proven is bullshit who downplays all her bonsues (really im sure with +3 she couldnt possibly cast anything) lying through your teeth about her prowess.
you forgot too the leadership test to even challenge her in your maths im sure too, which while minor a above 1/6 chance of getting fucked is never nothing. Oh and the utulity to the rest of her army. for the same points? yeah nah faggot
>>95939859Damn son, chill out.

My idea is to paint the zombies/skeleton pretty monotone to intentionally create a big brick that functions as interesting background for important models like characters or particular models I want to call attention to, but rewards you with pretty interesting model variety and little details if you look closer rather than the intentional focal points.
I did something similar with my 40k chaos and found it very fun (and forgiving) to paint, and look very good as an assembled host as long as you don't paint everyone as a stinky brown blob, but instead vary it significantly without violating your chosen limited pallet
Almost certainly Kislev will be next on the table since Cathay seems to be doing well. I think them pulling them from the starting set was less the war in Russia and more them not being confident on a new faction for the setting when they didn’t know how well TOW would sell in the first place.

Meanwhile Grand Army can be lead by a king and get longbeards as core.

AoS currently has 23 armies (24 potentially once the Chaos Dwarves are put in)
TOW currently has 10 armies.
Dark Elves, Chaos Dwarves, Ogres, Skaven, Deamons of Chaos (Undivided), Lizardmen, Vampire counts, Kislev and Dogs of War gets them to 19 armies but what would be the best option for the other 5? Vampire Coast, Snakemen of Khuresh, Nippon, Hobgoblin Khanate and Araby are my hopes.

I haven't played it but it's often suggested as an alternative for people who find actual WFRP too crunchy. The upcoming TOW RPG uses a different system and is set in a different time period, so I don't know how close to WFRP it's really going to be (haven't read it yet). My impression is that it's supposed to be both simpler and more "heroic" in tone and character power level.

>>95940527Likewise, Empire was made into the 'default' stat block army without nay special rules to make them special, just the standard rules.
The fact that they downplayed considerably the political tension and the many army options they could have had to turn it into a stable, 3 way cold war, and where Talabecland is somehow in the same bloc as Stirland, and there's little friction, like they're all waiting for Magnus to show up.
Or maybe Cathay.

They can make room however they need by reducing the how many of one kit they're making, it's not a case of one machine makes one mould and that's it. But they don't only have so many designers that can make only so many kits and not all kits are designed the same way by the same amount of people in the same amount of time. The amount of time and work it takes to design an infantry kit is not the same as the amount of work and time it takes to make a balloon kit or whatever.
>>95940765Oh yeah, fair enough. I actually assumed it was a percentile system. I'm not sure why it always comes up as a WFRP alternative then. Maybe just the tone.

What really sets "why is this game 40mm?" apart is the movement and deployment since nothing starts deployed. You then start to bring your army in by lights, then mediums in turn 2, and heavies have to come in turn 3+.
Makes you have to balance your army to have enough lights to push your supply point forwards but not so much you get bullied off by anyone with armor. I read the rules, watched some videos read the rules again. Hated it.
They played like one game and flitted to the next fomo, all of them sold their armies.
Conquest Models go together like shit.oppressive mould lines in certain areas.
But you know all of that would pales to the predatory shit with unit upgrades.
You buy one inf box, you buy seperately the command for the box. The command replaces rank and file models on those stupid 4 pack trays- those extra non command models cannot be used. Since you won’t have 4, even if you source another 4 tray.
Anyway this isn’t the dead shit wargame general, let’s keep it fantasy please.

>>95940313Bit of a dumb POV.
The reason bits sellers are dying out is because GW changed to the jigsaw assemblies. Kits that can be easily divided into kitbasheable bits are few and far between now. The kitbashing itself often takes much more effort and hobby knowledge/skill.
GW is slowly killing kitbashing, that's why there are fewer sellers.
Most people don't want to deal with the misery of sticking a resin bit to a perfectly good hard plastic kit btw. 3D printed bits are kind of subpar for kitbashing. They're good for the poor and desperate, though, who are willing to use a lesser medium that's less expensive and hard to acquire.
>>95941284Like it or not, you can always find someone in your area to play 40k, AoS, or ToW. Good luck finding some to play Kings of War, Conquest, or any other "No-Name" or "Unironically Who?" fantasy miniature wargames, especially if you live in the rural buck fucking out of nowhere.
>>95941419TOW isn't even top 10? Sells less than ASOIAF or Warmachine?

>>95941438ICv2 get their data by giving out surveys to US local game stores. This won't have any data from online retailers like Amazon. In 2024, the vast majority US LGSs got very few ToW miniatures and they were always selling out and never being restocked. For example, if the inventory for a LGS only has 10 ToW products vs unlimited AoS products, of course AoS is going to outsell ToW because its not selling any ToW after 10.
>>95940527Why do GW players have this mindset that you need more and more and more special rules for each army?
>>95941465well, aos is currently taking the opposite apprach, stripping out rules and customizations, and its arguably the biggest contributor to the games current downturn in satisfaction with the new edition

I've found that sufficient and found the GW fan insistence on having the most minute differences between units be represented with special rules and profiles as rather odd. But it makes sense from a business perspective.

>>95941885>at least more than half the size of the main unit, but cannot be more than 1.5 times the size of the unit*It's way more streamlined to say they have to be equally sized units at the start of the game.

Infantry blocks aren't really all that useful this edition. You can make a static combat res block, but the issue is most cav turn off your combat res, and ditto if something hits your side or rear arc. Teutogen guard are better but still not good.
Knights are the best core option and are okay. IC knights are also okay but can't be core.
Artillery got nerfed overall, great cannons won't do more than chip wounds off monsters / monstrous cav. Doesn't help with TOW's dragon epidemic. Hellblasters are okay.
The combat characters are comically overcosted and don't really do anything other than hand out mild leadership buffs. Griffons are solid but you'll lose to things at a similar points level because of the rider.
Priests have okay buffs locked behind a test on bad leadership.
Witch hunters are an odd spot. If you pick whatever is useful for the match, maybe they're okay.
For the good parts, wizards are relatively cheap and have access to most lores and a pegasus for a mount, in exchange for not having any army signature spells.
Demigryphs are great, decent argument for them being the best monstrous cav in the game.
Steam tanks are also good.
To wrap up though, if your opponent brings a good combat lord on a big mount, you still don't have anything to stop them from ramming it down your throat and even if they don't, you are still stuck spending a signifcant amount of your points on things that lose to most other units in their weight class.
I heard that a full minotaur army is a thing, is it good? What restrictions does it have? Should I use the minotaurs currently sold or those AOS ones?
Pic unrelated.

Halberds are probably worth it because he few attacks you get in may as well be Str4, you will want numbers so really 30-40, probably 10 wide because buying drilled isn't worth it on state troops. You also want to think about getting stubborn so you may need vets and a standard like the Nuln one. You could also go for the Griffon Standard on a ridiculous number like 40-50, have a ton of ranks and double the combat res so you can go in with 10+ static res. You can try warrior priests but their leadership is so pathetic good luck casting prayers. Essentially they aren't built to win fair combats but to tarpit or kill weakened enemy units. Spending points on them just isn't worth it.
It took me until now to realize that Massif Orcal is pronounced with a soft c.
>>95942064Just to hold for a little bit? Sword + board state troops.
Win a combat? VST spear + shield with griffon banner and bsb with war banner. Bring a detachment to eat first charge if need be.
>>95942100Empire have some ways to really boost combat res via characters, like the laurels of victory or the griffon standard on a BSB.
>>95942140I've tried halberds, you're almost never attacking first and so the damage output doesn't matter. Spears at least let you attack.

For me:
>gain Horde as an additional rule

>if spear/halberd can also buy a shield for +1ppm
>no such thing as veteran state troops, 1 per 1,000pts can buy +1WS and the Veteran rule for 1ppm

>>95941465Because rules interactions are more engaging than stats interactions
Anyone play with the Renegade army lists? We have a local group of 10~ people at our LGS and talk has been going around about the possibility of introducing the changes since from what people have seen they're pretty good.
However, we have a chaos player who insists that we can't introduce those rules because it affects tournmanet play outside of the LGS and may provide an upperhand to people unfamiliar with the changes. A majority of us are fine with the changes considering over half of us use the Legacy Armies but people want to make it unanimous.
I mostly looked at the changes to Skaven and I don't think they really fuck with their list too much. If anything the change I am most happy about is making the Screaming Bell base ever so slightly wider.
Should I try to push these changes or is it worth just playing with the official PDFs?
>>95942345Whats funny was the entire head of the aos dragon perfectly fit inside the mouth of the old world model.
The old world dragons are basically heroic scale compared to the aos dragons, but I like the look of the aos dragons. Also im running a ionus cryptborn dragon as a proxy for my dark elves lord on dragon that im building so its more consistent looking on the shelf next to eachother.
Also the old world dragon is so close to the ground that he has a tendency to crash with the models hes in contact with. Makes him harder to display in a limited shelf space.

>>95941769malekith is said to have nurtured his first black dragon, sulekh, since it was an egg, right at the start of his plans to take the crown, those plans couldn't have possibly begun before his return to ulthuan from the period of friendship with the dwars in the old world
so we're looking at one year between -2774 (his return to ulthuan) and -2751 (the murder of bel shanaar), for the taking and hatching of the egg, while he is first mentioned in the timeline as riding the dragon in -2735
if we assume that's the actual first time he rides the dragon and that he rode the dragon as soon as it was big enough, then we may be looking at roughly 40 years between hatching and being big enough to ride
sulekh is slain roughly ten years later in -2724, but her children are mentioned, so she must have been sexually mature too, not just large enough to be used as mount
another part of the dark elves armybook says that a clutch of stolen eggs were nurtured with dark magic for a century before they hatched, and that the nobles spent many decades training to ride and fight with the new dragons
so it's fair to say that dragons go from babies to maturity in 25-50 years

>>95942984Huh, it looks like for a mercs warband you really just want the sky lantern crew and 2-3 copies of the human crew members of the cannon. They all look pretty easily to turn into Mordheim models honestly: a bunch work as-is, you can carve off gun barrels for crossbows, and there's even a couple of guys that look pretty easy to give polearms or spears.
Biggest downsides are there's nothing to really differentiate champions/youngbloods from the general mass, although you do have a clear captain model which is nice. And if you do want to use the ogre cannoneer as an ogre bodyguard you're potentially going to have to carve away an entire cannonball or barrel from the arm, which will be annoying. I think the champion of the jade warriors unit makes a decent Mordheim champion, but he is more heavily armored than you'd usually field a starting Mordheim model.
>>95943079>>95942871you'd be better off just modifying skaven directly, maybe with marauder parts. gors aren't salvageable for the most part since they also have the wrong feet and legs.

2x engineer sappers
1x thane BSB
2x 15x rangers w/ great weapons
2x 15x thunderers w/ expeditionary marksmen
15x warriors drilled/vet w/ shield

Incidentally that supplement introduced the thing in the woods and it's just so fucking weird to see it pop up as this en masse Kislevite unit 20 years later. There's no connection. It was a weird scenario monster in Mordheim, no Kislev connection, no notion there were many of them. GW was obviously just unwilling to commit to inventing anything new for CA Kislev in TWW, so they ended up rooting some totally unrelated and unfitting thing. Bizarre.
>>95945106It's one thing reading about Orcs and Gobbos being badass and goofy in most material and another reading about children huddling the corpses of their parents as defenders try to shuttle them away from the general direction of the goblin raiders that killed their parents and are trying to kill them as well.
>>95945110Yeah the Night Gobbo Old World sculpts are peak goofy in a good way.
>>95945114>BizarreYeah, they also got cold feed about giving the not!baba yaga characters some stereotypical houses with legs that would have allowed them to bring some kislev architecture onto the table.

>>95946368Don't have one. I'm playing my first game of 1000p tomorrow vs Skaven and it's a lore driven warband.
Saefrith Coldthorn orchestrated the downfall of Krugenheim from the shadows — turning its defenses inward and fueling suspicion and paranoia. His magic opened clandestine pacts with Clan Vermson, the Skaven who dwell in the labyrinth beneath Krugenheim, adding their poison-tipped swords and warp-forged knowledge to the growing conspiracy. The Skaven struck first, spreading disease and chaos, thinning the defenses and sowing discord among the soldiers. Meanwhile, Throkkar Blackthorn prepared for the final assault — a siege destined to break the defenses, slay the soldiers, and enslave the survivors in service to chaos.
When Throkkar fell upon Krugenheim, a showdown was destined — a showdown made possible by Saefrith’s careful guidance. Throkkar Blackthorn’s soldiers, empowered by chaos magic, routed the town’s defenses in a matter of hours. The soldiers fell to poison-tipped warpweapons, chaos-twisting swords, and the magical blasts hurled by Saefrith.
Saefrith Coldthorn stood upon the ruins of the chapel, Black Sigil in hand, its magic swirling through him. The Brotherhood secured their domination, but the Skaven. Displeased with not getting the Black Sigil as promised, are now swiftly moving to get the coveted Sigil back from the Chaos warband.
Saefrith and Throkkar are my characters vs the Skaven and depending on the outcome either the warband will expand or decrease. Way more fun to play it like that. The endgame will most likely be a siege vs the Empire but that's at least a year away. My friend has Skaven, Empire and Brets so we'll have plenty of different of scenarios to play out.

I picked up the Ogor Mawtribes spearhead (older one) and whats the best way to base them for both games? Put them on circle bases and use square adapters or vice versa? Use original base sizes and get adapters for all three games?
>>95946761There was a website (that i forgot) where you could buy adapters for them. Let me see if I can find them. Or you can just magnetize their feet.
>>95946761If you want to play older editions of fantasy I don’t think you can also play AoS unless they make circular adapters I am not aware of. Otherwise you can just buy or print circular to square tray adapters.
>>95946761>>95946771MWG/Miniwargaming is where I bought my trays from and they also sell adaptors when I was ordering a year ago. But they are based in Canada so shipping might be expensive if you’re international.
>>95946761The round base is smaller.
You go to amazon and you order 40mm metal washers. You glue a flat piece of plastic or cardboard over the hole, and you paint it with flock or sand or whatever.
Then you get 40mm magnet tape, and you cut squares out of it. Those are your square bases.
You need round? You use the washer.
You need square? You attach the tape.
>>95946704Characters can't join each other to form an ad-hoc unit.
>>95946802>>95946704Also I think only half (rounding down) can be characters in front rank. You could chuck 3 in a 6 wide unit, like 9 black knights + 3 wight lords but it would be very expensive.
Are there still swarms in Old Wolrd?
Rat swarms, scarab swarms, jungle swarms, bat swarms?
>>95946835Yes. You forgot the best swarm Snotlings. The strongest army list in the game relies on Tomb Swarms to boost casting.
>>95941946Interesting, and thanks. So my read is that if my local group is largely non-meta it might still be dicey if people take cool shit like lords on monster mounts.
The way people were bunging on I thought maybe detatchments were possibly out, but I see they are retained from another comment. I'm glad, Warhammer, for its faults, does a pretty decent job with army doctrines, though it's a shame they got scared of skirmish troops from 7th (ghouls, beastmen etc)

WIzards backstory:
Saefrith Coldthorn is a creature forged by chaos itself — a master manipulator whose schemes have woven their way through the Old World for over 400 years. His tale reaches back more than four centuries, to a blasphemous ritual performed by a chaos cult under a purple-black aurora, when a daemon spirit was forced into the flesh of a vulnerable northwoman. From their unhallowed union, Saefrith was born — a child destined by Tzeentch to become a master strategist, a fateweaver who would slowly undermine the defenses of mankind. His piercing orange-black eyes glimmer with knowledge that cannot be contained by ordinary flesh. His mind — forged by chaos — is a labyrinth of schemes within schemes, a vast conspiracy that stretches across decades and continents.
Saefrith’s magic grew alongside his understanding of chaos’ grand design. His power lies not just in destruction, but in turning fate toward chaos’ eventual triumph. The Black Sigil — a relic forged by chaos — resonates in his grip, focusing his magic and allowing him to reach through space, time, and fate itself. Saefrith is not a warrior or a brute; he is the master strategist who moves the pieces on the board.
>>95945462Nothing stopping you from building your own fag
>>95948305Champions backstory:
Saefrith chose Throkkar Blackthorn to be his Lord of War — the chaos champion destined to conquer and destroy in Tzeentch’s name. Throkkar was a fallen knight, a warrior whose ambitions outstripped his loyalty to king or country. His family fell from grace when their lands were destroyed by famine, chaos creatures, and the cowardice of their liege lords. Throkkar turned inward, wrestling with resentment, shame, and growing rage.
Saefrith appeared to Throkkar in a dream-vision filled with purple-black flame, offering eternal power and a chance for retribution. Throkkar fell to his knees, swearing eternal loyalty. From that moment forward, Throkkar was forged into something more than human — a colossus armored in chaos-forged plate, his large rune-covered blade eager to drink the blood of his enemies. His heavy horned helm glows faintly with chaos magic, reflecting the raw power that drives him forward.
Throkkar Blackthorn is a commander, a butcher, a destroyer — the physical manifestation of Saefrith’s will. His soldiers follow him without question, honoring him as their Lord, a warrior destined for eternal glory. His greatest wish is to conquer Krugenheim and bring its people to their knees in a grand sacrifice to Tzeentch — a wish made possible by Saefrith’s careful guidance.
