got a pretty killer draft deck. I ended up mulliganning almost every round, but I still went 3-0 (traditional). I never got to cast clive or gilgamesh even once, but it turns out that doesn't matter when you can regularly get 4+ pinging wizards out.

historic brawl, at least, is a really tuned and powerful format, which disincentivizes being creative somewhat. decks will usually lock down their win condition by roughly turn 3 in the format, whether it be tifa decks using fetches and buff spells to kill you in one attack or ugin/etali decks ramping into their game-ending threats. Most decks are also pretty linear, being based around doing one strategy very consistently at the expense of losing to anything that disrupts that; it's kind of boring. Honestly I find mice boring. I built them on a whim cause I liked the way they looked. I was actually going to full on white-red them but then I found out thats theres a tier 1 deck for them. Lucky me. My wildcards since then went into a mill deck which I adore to play, but its kinda shit in ranked. So I ranked up with mice and use it for the odd daily but my mill deck is my main deck. Bonus to the mice is how fuckin fast the games are. I can churn through daily wins and the like 10mins if I dont really wanna play much that day. Good to hear I can still use it after the bans. Recently started playing again, but this time through Steam so I made another account. How the hell do you even unlock dailies? I had to do the tutorial, I even did the event with 5 colours. I was certain that I'd finally get dailies after than, but no. I now have to do some Sparky challenge using a pre-con deck? Fucking hell, why is there no way to skip that shit for experienced/non-new players? It's massively off-putting. Also, I thought that 5 colour event challenge thing would have you facing other players doing the event, thus using one of those 5 decks? What am I doing playing against a dude playing a UB FF deck? What the fuck is that shit? On top of that, the red deck is fucking miserable to play against another opponent.

Tifa was the simplest for me to build around. Got a good hand twice in the past five games to finish in 3-5 turns. Biggest problem was a fast Stiltzkin deck that was able to give a creature first strike.

Back again after finishing even more work, should be able to play some more today and tomorrow. Went 2-1 here with GB, absolutely robbed of the trophy through getting fucked by draws twice in a row while my opponent played 4c with no issue. A bit too top heavy here, I think cutting anima for something else would've been a better idea, even rexaur would've been fine. Seems the competition is starting to ramp up now, queues are slower and I had to work for all the wins this run. Feels like I shouldn't be as greedy, which is unfortunate. Especially since the set is too fucking big, so you need even more runs to complete it.

After playing a few hundred games of brawl with this commander I can confidently say the "RNG" in this game is fucked. There have been waaaay too many 4-5-6-7 successful rolls for me to think it's real rng. My guess is they generate some key at the start of each game and some of these keys prefer random rolls more than others. This shit is NOT random.

I already dropped this league. After playing poe2 for over 500 hours I just can't go back to poe1 gameplay

2-1 again, now on UB. The bane of my existence continues to be UR, just a real annoying package at common and some even stronger stuff at uncommon. The whole thing is difficult to stabilize against, so any stumbles are very punishing. I don't think B is that far behind though, the removal is stronger and there's some decent creatures too. R is just in a weird spot where it's in both the strongest and weakest pairs. Nothing very eventful to talk about in this one, other than one opponent using quistis to recur a fire magic and wiping the board for no reason.

Redeemed with a 3-0 on a UGw slop pile. Not pictured are two more towns, I never had mana issues. Didn't really deserve the wins here, I got lucky with shitty opponents and would've definitely lost against a decent aggro deck. I always feel off with UGx, it's a weird balance between towns and splashing bombs. Had to run some real shitty ones here to make 40, I much prefer going for an honest 2c or small splash so there's some leeway. Playing MTG again and I have to say, I'm really enjoying my time playing the pre-constructed format. I typically drop online card games very quickly once the honeymoon phase wears out and I'm facing the same meta decks over and over again. At that point these games lose the thing that made them special: all the diversity and fun options. You're just left with making a deck to counter the most common deck to stand a chance, and then losing to anything that isn't the most common decks. At least now the pre-con format makes things fun.
There's just no point in being able to make your own decks if it means the absolute losers playing these games net deck and remove all the fun out of the game for themselves and their opponents.

Drafts are less the be-all-end-all since the introduction of golden packs. Larger standard with more frequent releases and ridiculous power creep also mean that set completion isn't as desirable as it once was.

Another 3-0 on a solid GB list. Definitely designed to be grindy, three each of hecteyes and fat chocobos were great at accumulating card advantage. Bard's bow was also invaluable at holding off fliers, won a match pretty much off their backs. Not really impressed by the 2 drop birds, but they didn't really need to be impressive. Rexaur also helped stabilize and push through a win in a couple games, feels like the best of the cyclers along with malboro. Titan was the sole rare here but I drew him a lot, played quite well with all the birds.

Back to back 3-0 on GB, quite happy with that. This one was more mill oriented and zero rares, but otherwise pretty similar. Went for the classic 45, for sure the right call. Cloud of darkness is so fucking strong, it feels dirty playing two and recurring them. Bard's bow once again earning the slot, bullying poor fliers. Fight on got pretty good value here, usually I don't like them much. Cornered is a good card but edicts tend to be better with small removal rather than big ones, I don't think it's great in GB.

Any suggestions for this draft? The Blazing Bomb has been good to me in this archetype, growing a lot more regularly than I'd have thought. The Fire Crystal actually hasn't hurt the 4-mana requirement of RU since the only spell it drops below 4 CMC has a flashback that'll trigger regardless. And its upside of doubling an Ice Flan or Dragoon's Wyvern is pretty good. Saved me a game, actually. Stunned a 10/10 Zodiark long enough to let me bounce it.

Decent 2-1 UW run. Zero late game, didn't even see that many living weapons after picking up a bunch of payoff cards. Fliers are still good, 3x wyvern is nasty. Not even upset about the one loss, their list was cracked, with like half the deck being removal. Just realizing now after looking at the list again that I didn't go down to 16 lands even though I intended to. I don't think it would've changed much anyway. Probably would've ran damper. I think it went well enough, given the mediocre draft. I should really prioritize equipment more, they get taken pretty quick with multiple archetypes that want them, as well as some even being decent just on their own.

This would be about where I stop for regular sets, but FIN is a bigger set for some dumb reason so I'll try to sneak in a few more sets tomorrow. The whole thing has dragged out in this set way longer than usual due to IRL shit, despite being actually fewer runs than I usually need. I think my record is about the same as usual, I've just managed to raredraft more. Somehow still haven't tried RB or RW yet. RB looks pretty weak so I doubt I'll be getting the chance to play it. RW is pretty good though, just haven't gotten the opportunity. Guessing people are forcing UR and picking up all the good R cards. Bit of an unusual scenario, in that two of the R pairs are at the top, while the other two are at the bottom. Unlucky in the set since I prefer to explore and figure out formats, but due to joining late this time around things have already settled down.

Strong WB list that only went 1-2. Closer than the record would indicate, both losses were 1-2 and pretty even games. Probably should've went down to 16 lands for this one too. Lots of mage pingers in this one, along with lots of equipment and lots of removal. Garuda kinda sucked since I was on the offense most of the time. Treachery had a bunch of fodder, but it was sometimes awkward since I usually wanted to be swinging in. Always wanted more bodies for greatsword and gabranth, too. Not sure if I misplayed the matchups or if it's just weaker than what my opponents were doing, there was at least one moment that I think I fucked up on.

Awful list, but still made 2-1. Really wanted better bodies than sabotenders and brahne, but never got them. The sahagins and katana were good, but never drew them. Fortunately the removal carried here. Quite decent late game with all the flashback and card advantage, getting there was a struggle though. Had multiple games where I stabilized at <5 life. Ran 41 for no reason, the cut would probably be a scheme. Card collection still the only sidequest I've reliably flipped, it's so easy and the payoff is great.

I figured at minimum it'd be some examples of what decent draft decks will look like (though maybe not the last few, they've been kinda shitty)

I've recently returned after last playing Magic during the Phyrexian invasion arc and without being overly dramatic, the meta and general state of the game is quite possible the worst in MTG history. Every single negative trend that was starting to become truly problematic back then has worsened to the point that the foundations are rotten. Removal is fucking nuts and out of control, there is no real color identity anymore, and turn 3 is lategame. It's relatively common in standards of all things now to not just obviously be doomed but outright lose most or all of your life by turn 2 now, where before it was rare as fuck.

I was also wondering why Final Fantasy slop with terrible art (who drew the chobos, they look actually disgusting uncanny valley tier) was in the game, the I read up about UB and how new sets are planned every two months which is crazy.

Decided to finish up early, the set is extra big and there's not much I really want from it. The set's pretty balanced, though with relatively simple mechanics so it got a bit dull. UR and RG are the only outliers, at the top and bottom respectively, and not by that much. I still never got to try RW or RB, feels like a decent chunk of the good R cards are more synergy oriented so you're not going to get much value out of them outside the archetype. U is probably the strongest overall color, with like half the commons being top tier. I didn't see many successful 3c+ decks outside of UGx, and likewise pure UG isn't that great. Really dislike the bonus sheet on this one, no theme at all and a bunch of really strong bombs that can solo decide games.

Final FIN totals:
Nine 3-0, fourteen 2-1, three 1-2 runs, for a total of 58-20
