One of the last threads reminded me this cutie exists and now i'm tempted to build my first Izzet commander.
I'm assuming she's fairly open ended, but what's the most FUN strategy with her?
>>95943598your boos me nothing to me, I've seen what makes you cheer

>>95943642I mean yeah mana cheating is good and she probably enables some combos, but is she really that bad?
>>95943652he's not the guy that asked about her
>>95943614Unfortunately fucking around with time counters isn't as fun as it sounds. It's the sort of thing where if you're not just using her to play 12 mana eldrazi on turn 5 there's really not much reason to play her.
Also the majority of the best suspend cards are now Doctor Who shit, and even if you're into that, it feels very limiting from a deck building perspective.
If you want an Izzet waifu, I would recommend just storming off with pic related.
>>95943661Yes. Yes she is.

>>95943680gr8 b8 m8, I r8 it 8/8
>>95943614I have her
She was my first edh deck
You have to understand how much of a menace she used to be, you can suspend stuff like worldfire and eldrazi to ruin everyone's day.
She still has that reputation as well so some people might Target her just based on principle.
Realistically however I think the power level has fallen off a lot, she's still very good but not nearly the terror that she used to be because every other deck is cheating out big scary stuff now.
As far as the most fun way to build, you can literally do whatever you want because you can suspend any card at all (except a land). Personally I still like cheating out big creatures but I could see a sort of artifact or enchantment build.
She has a short list of Staples that she absolutely needs because very few cards interact with time counters, you're going to want all of them.
Suspend is a fantastic and fun mechanic, remember that a creature coming out of suspend gains haste. But also be aware that whatever route you go your entire game plan is going to be extremely telegraphed
>>95943680you may now proceed to foam at the mouth
>>95943704I still have mine from buying that first box

>>95943704Nah, I kind of agree. She's popular because she's flashy and flashy commanders draw hate very easily. She's also just slower and less protected than a lot of similar cheaty commanders that have come out since.
>>95943716you don't actually think she's unjustly hated

>your entire game plan is going to be extremely telegraphedI'm okay with that. I figured that would make some of the more degenerate stuff more palatable to a table.
Good input though <3
>>95943676He seems kinda lame
>>95943732I will defend mill until my dying day as a fun and interactive playstyle with a lot of risk and reward and even suggest that self-mill is the more powerful archetype than trying to deck others.
>>95943673OG Lorwyn was the peak of magic art direction and their artist roster, dominik mayer and kev walker can't save the entire set but I'm sure some good cards will come out of it
>>95943679Chill, I meant the divide between them, not every card in the set. But with it right next to Arcavios, MDFCs having been a defining mechanic of Strixhaven, and Lorwyn in part characterized with a strong day/night difference, it seems more likely than not. And using MDFCs also works to keep Lorwyn mechanically distinct from Innistrad while still having that day/night theme.
If Iโm wrong, and we see the day/night mechanic return, my despair will know no bounds. What a fucking awful idea that was.
>>95943744>even suggest that self-mill is the more powerful archetype than trying to deck others.Daring today, aren't we?

I dunno man, it's so rare that I get games I enjoy. I just play because I enjoy the experience of a Commander game. But that disappointment doesnโt sting any more than it would if I spent all my time moaning about how awful everything is and will be.
I can be realistic about things. I can recognize that there is a trend implied by Thunder Junction, Duskmourn, Aetherdrift, Final Fantasy, and Edge of Eternities all looking like complete garbage and all being sets that I skipped. I can acknowledge that todayโs design and art teams arenโt the same as yesterdayโs. But I can also look at sets like Bloomburrowโanother set that leaned on more fanciful, storybook themes, like Lorwynโand Tarkirโanother set that returned to a fan-favorite plane that had been left in a somewhat uncertain stateโand see that both were executed well, even if there were still choices I wouldnโt have made and some directions that I wasnโt fond of.

It's why actual fans get pretty annoyed about the deus ex machina spirit bending at the end. The whole show Aang has said if he kills Ozai he's no better than him, but there seems to be no other way to make him stop his campaign for world domination, and then in the final few minutes of the final fucking episode he suddenly learns how to remove other people's bending so Ozai isn't powerful anymore.

There's a whole episode about her being accused of murder, where it turns out that actually she didn't kill the person but she was going to.
And I'm not saying that dealing with the morality of killing someone = black, I'm saying the show fucking beat people over the head for multiple seasons that all people have good and bad inside of them, all people can be cruel and destructive and violent, but they should seek balance within themselves.
The Avatar is the spirit of the world, representing all peoples and all nations. Spirits on numerous occasions showed the capacity to be destructive and lash out. Black is abso-fucking-lutely part of the Avatar's identity.

He wants revenge for what happened to the Air Temples, and when Appa is stolen, not out of any sense of justice but because he wants those people to hurt like he did. Numerous fucking times Katara has to be the one to stop him and calm him down because he has gone too far.

In any case, the Avatar doesn't need to be full black to have black as part of his color identity. As I have said probably dozens of times now, the entire show is about balance. Aang and every Avatar before him have the capacity for the things associated with black, but it is balanced out by all his other attributes. Literally the entire fucking point balance, in Magic terms that is 5c
So recently some family and friends got back in after being away from the game for a long time (I last played in Mirrodin, friends were a little earlier, the longest was even longer) but we found our collections from back then - a rather lot of cards.
What sort of resources are there for cataloging collections, and since these boxes are falling the fuck apart, what sort of storage solutions do you all like?

You can then export the file to a website like Moxfield to keep track of everything as well as make decks.
I too left around Fifth Dawn and came back just a year ago.
finding out what happened to Mirrodin was very sad
>>95944449Sure. I donโt have a dog in the Avatar race specifically, I just hate it when people say that black is negative emotions when its whole thing is just power. Which, again, amplifies the effect of negative emotions, but isnโt synonymous with them.
The main argument I could see justifying 4c Aang is if he has a mono-W card as an airbender, a WU card once he picks up waterbending, a GWU card once he picks up earthbending, and RGWU as the fully-realized Avatar after picking up firebending. In that case, Iโd argue you specifically DONโT want sudden 5c because of how that would imply firebending to be BR instead of just Rโand the entire final season was about how itโs actually R and not BR.
Still, even in such a case, I think youโd be better having RGWU Aang as something short of his final form, adding a fifth card to take the extra step to imply that spiritbending is what gets him full 5c. Which also has a neat little logic to it, as spiritbending is literally the direct manipulation of power itself.

>>95945592NTA but Black honestly is better served as the color of Ambition in general rather than just self-centered sociopathy. I was seething that this character didn't have a Black symbol simply because she's not explicitly evil, even though she's literally every other definition of Black that isn't literally just "Evil". She's loyal to her own state, but acts freely of her own volition, she aims to be more powerful than anybody she encounters and routinely destroys anything threatening her or or surrounding territory, she is a sharp opportunist who takes advantage of every single situation she can to get slightly further ahead, and will explicitly capture and kidnap enemies to the state to torment them or experiment on them. The /literal/ only reason she's not Black is because her routine acts of destruction are in service of Windurst and she very frequently attacks actually explicitly evil and senselessly destructive entities in the setting while showing off her powers to the general population in a braggart's manner as she saves them. She's not a "hero" by any definition of the word, and if Windurst was a nation hellbent on world conquest, she'd basically be their court wizard that reduces enemy kingdoms to ash, but that dubiousness is why they think she doesn't deserve to be Black despite having every other attribute of Black.

How do people close out games with a goad strategy? I see all these neat goad commanders and yet they all seem like they're only good enough for 2nd place in every single game
>>95946198have answers for the shit you give to people.
>>95946195Well the point is that people are willing to spend a dumb amount of extra money for unique art no matter how crappy it is. I can tell you the card isn't priced higher than the others solely because a lot of people love the illustration on it.
>>95946198You don't go all in on goad. Goad is good at buying time for you to set up a board that's independently threatening once everybody is weakened or one or two are dead. Something like Kardur (it's goad fuck you) can play a pretty straightforward reanimator plan that can ether recur him to keep buying time or just bring back something huge that will win the game. The biggest mistake people make with goad is putting too much of it in their deck.

>>959460719 and 10 had massive black tendencies because they were the doctors who had seen a war that destroyed their home planet.
Shit happened so many fucking times during their eras. There was a whole episode about how 9 seeing a Dalek again turned him into someone cruel. He tortured it when it was helpless, and he was determined to kill it even when it was defenseless.
10 had so many moments like that too. Had a whole thing about being "the timelord victorious", which meant that as the last surviving member of the Time Lords he alone had the right to change history if he wanted to. And then there was a whole thing about how if he didn't have a companion (Donna) he would have fucking killed himself just to kill a spider bitch and her millions of babies.
I think people often get confused the more colors are in an identity, but just because someone is usually good, usually saves people, often acts selflessly etc does not mean that they can't have black as part of their identity. It's just balanced out by their other colors

If its above B+ and you're playing casual you're a sweat.
>>95946963You're making a common blunder. CEDH commanders aren't "the best EDH commanders"; they're "commanders that can play CEDH".
A number of very powerful commanders are far too slow to play in CEDH because CEDH decks are designed to mull down to run extremely fast combos to defeat the rest of the table as quickly as possible. It is that very specific enviornment that decides whether a commander can play bracket 5.
That makes list like this
>>95946975kinda incomplete, because you can play a number of these commanders in EDH and NOT have them configured for CEDH degeneracy and they can be just fine at less sweaty tables.
I personally find CEDH really fucking stupid, but that's simply a value judgement on my part.

>>95946975>marath not listedofficially a free thinker

I have too many decks, i never have time to play with all of them.
>>95948223NTA, but for a wider pool of net decks you should check out what people use when running pic related and both forms of Alesha (Who Smiles at Death/Who Laughs at Fate). All three of these are better versions of your waifu in the same colors (with Old Lady Alesha only lacking white) with very similar game plans, and have been around a lot longer for people to "solve" them. Look at what people are using to fill their graves with good shit to bring back and what creatures they're running. Here are some surface level tips, but keep in mind I'm a shitter who didn't know a thing about magic 2 months ago:
>With Altair I run surveill lands for a chance of passive graveyard fuel. Look for other cards that let you do big Surveills, pitch away some creatures and rearrange the rest of your topdeck to suit your needs in the moment. I use Desmond Miles for this with Altair but it's much less effective in a deck that isn't an Assassin tribal.>Buried Alive and Lively Dirge allow you to tutor specific cards to your graveyard>Ripples of Undeath is excellent passive self-mill, especially if you can get it in play ASAP.>Since the creatures you're running are coming in tapped, try to at least look for valid power 3s with good ETB effects so they're doing something when they come in. Cycling Accursed Marauder/Plaguecrafter/Fleshbag Marauder in and out of the graveyard helps clear up the board and you can sac them to their own effects so you keep your better creatures up. Cycling ETB discard shitters like Kroxa works similarly >Have plenty of protection for your commander as people will get really fucking sick of you bringing in discarders/suicide bombers from the yard. Use various types. Boots and Greaves are fine, but if you can fit in blink or phase effects like Haystack/Robe of Stars, you can also dodge board wipes and edicts.
>>95944535I played against it one time on Arena and it was incredibly annoying. If you don't have removal as soon as it drops, it will get tons of value. Just below original Narset in terms of obnoxious free spells on attacks.
>>95949058same that's why I take them apart every week
>have always exclusively played Magic on a digital tabletop where it's convenient to track counters and I can constantly check other players' card effects, graveyards, etc. by just passively mousing over things on anyone's turn
>online play group is falling apart and I might have to check out in-person LGS with strangers if I want to get my commander fix
Maybe it's silly, but I'm worried that the inherent qualities of physical magic (not having a bird's eye view of the whole board and instant access to the text of every card in play or in a yard), including just the slog of shuffling a library with dozens of cards many times throughout the course of the game, is going to make it unfun. Is it as bad as it sounds, or should I just suck it up and trust people to resolve their own boards correctly?

>>95949293You too anon <3
>>95949155Do it fgt, it builds character.
But in all seriousness, only the heaviest of autists has the entire boardstate in his head at all times. Just keep the most important pieces in mind and you'll be fine.
>>95949155If you're worried about access to the board information, just politely ask your opponent to take a look at their graveyard or politely ask someone to read a card that they played that you're unfamiliar with. This is a common courtesy and you should have access to all of that information but don't go grabbing other people's cards
>trust people to resolve their own boards correctly?I get that the game is complicated but ultimately yes you do have to trust the people can resolve the state of the game correctly, and it's going to make you a better player if you can understand how to do so as well
>including just the slog of shuffling a library with dozens of cards many times throughout the course of the game, This isn't as bad as it sounds because keep in mind this is ultimately a social experience, it's not like everyone just sits there quietly while one dude is shuffling and a lot of the time you can shortcut these actions as long as there's trust
>>95949110terra herald of hope is overall better than alesha simply because the former at least mills you making it easier to recur things
with that said terra has the same issues alesha and co. have, in that while any deck can jam an infinite combo that doesn't change the fact that these mardu commanders are primarily creature based value engines and are thus susceptible to boardwipes
>>95949528The entire game outside of instant, game winning combos is susceptible to board wipes and Terra has white (and black) thankfully.
>>95949549you're far less susceptible to wipes if your permanents win on the same turn you play them
>>95949528They just do different things. Alesha Who Smiles can only bring back 2 power or lower creatures for a slightly more restrictive price than Terra since she's W/B symbol dependent, but they come in attacking. Alesha Who Laughs has a much wider range of creatures she can bring back depending on her own power, and brings them in for free and untapped, but at end step so they can't participate in combat immediately and might miss triggers that need to happen earlier.
Personally it feels bad to have my revived creature, that I paid for, need to wait a full cycle to do anything in my dedicated resurrection deck.
>>95948462>>95948475There's gonna be 5 different cards of each "main characters" with 10 different treatments each. There is plenty of content.
>>95949596Terra is superior simply by not being a tranny
>>95949597This is why UB should stick to big franchises and not smaller IPs.
>>95949597Also it's not that bad to build a set with only like 15 legends, even if FF made the term pretty much worthless.
>>95949610I could've used more than one version of Katarinya Greyfax. The 40k Empire deck was so unfocused. I just wanted a deck with main focus on the imperial guard instead of every part of the empire of man.
>no I want MORE legendary bloat!
What the fuck is wrong with you people? 20 legends per set used to be excessive.
>>95949596ofc the others have their own perks but terra is still overall superior because she mills you, please don't tell me you think going into the red zone against 3 opponents with value creatures is a viable plan to victory outside of things like unstoppable slasher

>>95946419That is not the definition of ambition. It is a desire to achieve something. Power can be the desired achievement, but it's far from the only one. Wanting to be a great artist, or a master of a craft, or a scientist who cures a disease believed to be incurable, or an explorer who discovers something completely unknown, are all ambitious things completely unrelated to power.
>>95945266They don't captain gamer word is just boring
>>95950108I love this deck
You DO include every spell that features your Commander in the artwork or flavor text just for the aesthetics, right?
>>95950270No, that would require me putting planeswalkers in my deck and i refuse to deal with that trash
This guy turns sideways into your direction.
What's attacking you?

>>95950358straight from spelltable. no extra compression or anything.

>>95950323Yoshimaru, either 12/12 or 13/13 with flying and lifelink
>>95950396>I wanted to make a point that proxies and secret lairs a shit. OG artwork onlyBuddy, it's literally a full art Neon Dynasty card. It's not even a Secret Lair, let alone a proxy.
>>95950430It's okay, if you still want to argue about something you can correct me and say it's a borderless card instead of full art, call me a retard to really give it some weight.
>>95950396If I take off my glasses, I can't see what's attacking anymore, yes. Great insight.
All the different artworks and proxies are a bit annoying, but only just that. I'll survive.
>>95950445I think there's something to be said against the movie poster Secret Lairs and shit. They're completely unreadable even if you pick it up and try to read it.
>>95950270That makes very little sense
>>95950454I think they look like absolute shit personally and I've never met someone who actually uses them. I only see them trying to be shilled by collectors
>>95950536>I only see them trying to be shilled by collectorsyes that is exactly their purpose, as collection bait
they are awful to the eyes as game pieces so really all their use is to be sold to people with questionable aesthetic tastes
>>95950270You can't even do that if you had all the cards because of the colors
>Table sees izzet commandee and tries to hard focus them even when they clearly have jackshit because it's 3 cards in hand and passed with no game actions or board presence
What is it about this color combo that utterly mindbreaks bad players? I'm watching this unfold as a Kefka is literally raping the table and the azorius player in their infinite wisdom kills the izzet player's commander instead of Kefka.
>>95947872>I've been seeing the lists people on youtube and such have assembled but most seem very lackluster and not much of a gameplan outside of "hope my board doesn't get wiped."Man, her color combo has so many ways to make getting wiped irrelevant, and you get to reanimate half of them with your commander.
Yes, in a lot of ways her gameplan is more "Fair" than other similar gameplans, but you can still work it well. You don't fucking care if you get wrathed because your board will built itself back up the fastest even if you don't just perpetually have boromir, selfless spirit etc up.
>>95950658Izzet is solidly the color combination of "I'm not doing anything...oops you are all dead." There is solidly a chance that if you leave them alone they will just suddenly combo off and win even with basically nothing on the board, so you are encouraged to deal with them first.
>>95948090It's says which game it is on each card. Bottom left above the artist's name.
This is from ff5.
>>95948475I don't care about doctor who or the other bad UB sets, but something about avatar is so boring and lame that I hate it
>Esper Control Deck
>Full of generic value engines but slow on wincons (winning around turn 7-9 usually) with no infinites
Sounds like a bracket three instead of bracket four right? Technically it is bracket four because the amount of game changers but I could just swap them out since I don't think this deck would hold up at all at a real bracket four table.
>>95950727>puts GCs>refuses to put in an infinite combo
>>95950746Yeah? I don't like infinites
>>95950752if you value winning less to the point that you're not running infinites then you might as well temper your love of efficient tutors and fast mana and go down to bracket 2
>>95950766I don't care if others use infinites lategame like how bracket 3 is stated, I just personally don't want to win that way.
>>95950780i'm not forcing you to run infinites now that you've basically said you don't want to on principle i'm just saying that if you're going to gimp yourself then either hang around at bracket 2 where you'll have a better chance of winning or be a fish at bracket 4/5, either way i won't refuse bracket 2 gaming or a fish at the poker table that's asking for it
>>95949155Just go to the LGS pussy. 95% of the LGS horror storys told here are BS. Paper magic is a much better experience
>>95950798>every bracket 3 deck has infinitesWell done showing how dumb you are
>>95950826not only did i not say that every bracket 3 out there runs an infinite i actually like it that way, makes me win more against fish
>>95950833>edh is only about winning and everyone who doesn't have infinites always losesEmbarrassing, kill yourself.
>>95950798That makes sense but Bracket 3 seems like the sweet spot right? I don't mind playing lower power games and have an unchanged precon just for that but bracket 3 by WOTCs definition is only supposed to have infinites turn 7+ so a deck without those could certainly hold their own at bracket 3 I think
>>95950840>some weird kid wants to play with their meme deck and wants people to witness it>i grant them my eyeballs, say my ooohs and aahs, and i win against themif i win 4 out of 5 games for the night and they are over the moon winnning 1 with their meme deck then that becomes the fairest transaction in the world buddy boy, sorry you're too socially stunted to realize this
>>95950843slotting an infinite in a deck is elementary, winning a game here and there using a deck w/o an infinite doesn't change the fact that doing so is intentionally gimping yourself
with that said i wish gavin would put his foot down and say "no infinites/near infinites before turn 7" so that we can be rid of any ambiguity
>>95950918My group just doesn't play with any infinites because combo is against the spirit of the game
>>95950918>i wish gavin would put his foot down and say "no infinites/near infinites before turn 7"nta, but on the other hand I wish Gavin would put his foot down and ban infinites in anything under b4. >>95950954No, I dislike infinite combos no matter the color. Like I said, playing a card and immediately saying "okay I win" is cheap as hell. The cards like pic rel I'm fine with because you actually have to work towards their conditions, but just slapping a card down and ending the game? No thanks, senpai
>>95950996Based I would play with you
>>95950996>i find this [game mechanic] to be cheap as hellyeah i find command grabs to be cheap as hell too, i do wonder why the smash community is rolling their eyes at me though
>>95950688That's literally just a self-report of being shit at the game if you can't assess an izzet player's resources based on how many cards they have and have seen. Kefka is handlooping everyone right that very second and this dumbass thinks the izzet player with jackshit in-hand is going to do anything when every single play he made the entire game has been a shitty standalone burn spell which have collectively done less damage than Kefka hitting face. There is someone that has 7 cards in his hand and is actively taking cards out of everyone else's. Do something about that you fucking ape instead of making a play based around a hypothetical combo they obviously don't have.
>>95950658Because Izzet can bullshit wins out of nowhere from several 2 card combos and every mtg player with any experience knows this.

>>95951079>Kefka is handlooping everyone right that very second and this dumbass thinks the izzet player with jackshit in-handYou don't know what the izzet player has in hand and if Kafka is drawing them in to more gas with wheel loop, the izzet player is even more dangerous.
Izzet is bad because blue has no removal
>>95951091An experienced player knows how likely they are to have it based on how much card selection they've accessed that game. It's midwit thinking to go "izzet only needs two cards to win. I must ALWAYS play like they're going to win next turn."
Spoiler: The Kefka won.
>>95951099Yeah sorry my two removal spells and 2 stifles weren't enough when the first point of potentially game-changing interaction not played by the Kefka was wasted by a dumbass that thinks izzet is scarier than the thing keeping him hellbent.
>>95951117but why remove anything when you can just win the game?
>>95951117That's why you ask the Naya player if all your spells resolve first, right?
>>95951122You just sound bitter that you suck at tge game. Why couldn't YOU stop Kefka? Get good, stop relying on others and get better at threat assessments.
>>95951109>Well actually if the Kefka wheels everyone-That's not what was happening.
This player had 3 cards in his hand and did not access a single piece of card advantage the entire game.
The Kefka was aiming to make the table hellbent.
A four year-old could have realized the izzet player didn't have shit by simply counting how many cards each player had.
>>95951137Yeah sorry fuck me for only getting 80% of the way there expecting someone could do the bare fucking minimum instead of outing himself as being mindraped by an entire color combo.
>>95950954Infinites just feel cheap, I like the idea of using a some combo to copy seething song to make 80 something mana and casting a huge ass fireball but just storming infinite grapeshots doesn't feel as cool.
>Tell izzet player to take out all his infinites
>Now I can complain he's taking needlessly long turns because he can't shortcut his win condition since it's based around resolving a terrible card that requires massive setup to be a wincon

>>95951184It seems to be more popular with new players who apparently think they can keep track of it. Thankfully many can be corrected.
I've actually seen something even worse: Someone used dice to represent the difference to the base loyalty on planeswalkers. So a 1 on Oko can either be 3 or 5 loyalty. I swear to god, this game sometimes makes me wonder how people's brains work.

>>95951184>The dice should not be used to represent current total p/t. It's absolutely wild to me that some "people" use the dice to represent total p/tDefinitely a niche situation, but: You have 18 cards in hand. How do you represent Maro's P/T if not a d20 set to 18?
since when is there a 5 minute timer to make a new thread
>>95951252That's different and I would be ok with it because it does actually represent the total p/t that changes frequently. Counters should still be represented separately if they were put on maro though.
>>95951209>I've actually seen something even worse: Someone used dice to represent the difference to the base loyalty on planeswalkers.holy fuck do we know the same person?? This cannot be a widespread thing, it's too insane. Red dice means it's negative loyalty compared to the card, white dice for when it's positive loyalty compared to the card. And no matter how much the rest of us bitch about it nothing ever changes
>>95951267Ah, then fully agreed. There's those +1/+1 dice on Amazon for like $8. Everyone should pick up a pack of them, it makes these things too easy to solve
