The Fracture is a sub-dimensional space that appears to be infinite in nature and somehow attached itself to Earth creating a portal that floats above the waters in the Pacific Ocean.

Aside from the typical civilian jobs, one particular job is that of a Pathmaker, non-combat civilians who assume the risk of exploring and expanding maps and discovering things. Some having specialist roles such as exploring the Fracture's ocean (which connects to ours).

Their job is to explore, create trails people can reference and discover resources. If they encounter monsters (and they will) they are to haul ass and they get bounties for reporting them so combat specialist can go and exterminate them.

Traditionally yes, pretty sure the post is a skewer they impale the hay sheets on.

But Round Bales can easily upwards of a thousand pounds and usually require some sort of mechanized fork to move.
It's the agricultural equivalent to having a bunch of intermodal shipping containers littering your medieval castle.
